they will never be replaced. jonathan: feet of water and sewage, families living in dozens of homes need help after a water main broke last week. michelle: since then, some have been living without heat and hot water. anna-lysa gayle is live in northeast washington. what a mess. the pictures are so telling. anna-lysa: this includes old furniture and old carpet and other garbage piled up, just one of several piles on this block following the water main break. chennai, residents spoke about their frustrations and it's something they are still dealing with. >> i'm a vietnam veteran and disabled. the oldest personal this block had to go through just about

temperatures. anna-lysa: this veteran is fighting on behalf of his 97-year-old mother, whose basement was and one of nearly two dozen that flooded because of an eight inch water main break. they have photo showing the damage of the basement, which was filled with water from the street, combined with sewage water, some as high as three feet. >> i arrived home from work to find my basement was flooded. my floating. anna-lysa: several families have been without heat and hot water since then. >> we want to be treated like folks in georgetown and other parts of the city want to be treated. anna-lysa: d.c. water says they will pay for immediate cleanup, but they must investigate before paying for things like furniture and furnaces. >> come meet with the residents,

anna-lysa: some residents have not had the patience to continue waiting for the help they need. they are starting to pay for things like furnaces out of their own pockets, and some are still staying in hotels considering they have no heat or hot water. anna-lysa gayle, abc 7 news. michelle: very frustrating. it is the start of the holiday season. folks are rushing out to get all the last minute items, but it's also a time where there is a deadly combination of folks drinking and hitting the roads. over the holidays, about 45 people in the u.s. are killed each day by drivers who have been drinking, and statistics like that have montgomery county police out in full force. tom roussey has what's happening right now with patrols. tom? tom: it's a big operation.

downtown bethesda in the distance. they are funneling traffic from three lanes down to one. police officers with montgomery county are looking for violations. if they see a violation, they will have the car pull over and see if the drivers impaired by alcohol. that is one of a number of things they are doing throughout the county. we are riding along with montgomery county police officer greg walker on what the drinking nights of the year. >> the amount of people who are driving to our impaired is scary. tom: the biggest problem on the wednesday before thanksgiving usually comes from students returning from college. >> they have been away for so long, and you get back to wherever home is and your friends are back. therefore, you want to hang out with friends, maybe go to a house party, have a few drinks, then drive home.

charged a night accused of sexual abuse at a d.c. library. in two cases he targeted miners inside of a bathroom. tim barber dug into his past. he was no stranger to the police, tim? tim: the suspect is only 23, but has already been arrested several times. he was ordered to stay away from this library and the four girls he is accused of molesting. place, but monday night a man may have molested four girls here. >> it is disheartening. tim: the suspect is carlos hunt. two of the victims were grabbed in the bathroom of the mlk junior library. i searched his criminal history and discover the 23 year old has been charged with at least four other crimes.
