just the clothes on their backs. three deaths are being blamed on the flames. investigators say the fire that started it all was caused by humans. >> earliier we spoke with mark nagi with the department of transportation, spending all day driving around the coupe. >> i know you toured the area, what did you tell us about the destruction there? >> caller: good news is downtown gatlinburg is pretty much all in tact, but you go on the side a mile of that main strip, it looks like a bomb has gone off. >> wow. >> caller: homes that are -- you only know they were there because the foundation is all that remains, and it's something that's going to take a long time for the folks in gatlinburg to rebuild. >> as you drove around the area, were you stunned but how devastating this was? >> caller: absolutely. i mean, you hear the reports from the night before about the high winds or 60 miles per hour,

how much widespread devastation there is in the area. it isn't just the folks vacationing there. this is also just the normal houses for the folks that live in gatlinburg, so these are the folks that are going to have to deal with this 365 days a year. >> can you speak to the ramifications of this? affecting both the residents that live there, but also the many, many tourists that go there every year. >> caller: yeah, certainly. you just wonder what it's going to be like when you get the busier tourist seasons. this is, perhaps, the worst fire seen in east tennessee in about a century. the governor toured the area. this is something that's going to take a while for folks to deal with. >> give us the latest overall as far as you know, the fire is under control and it did not have much of an impact on dollywood at the same time, right? >> caller: that's correct.
