sam: it was an intense fireworks on capitol hill this morning as members of congress grilled members from the senior leadership team of the national transportation safety board and the transit association. the overall message is metro's board is grossly mismanaging the troubled transit agency. representative barbara com stock went as far to say it's time to blow up the three compact that governs the metro. the panel raised their voices and skoaled the board chair saying we're sick of you coming back here time and time again and sick of the reports and then getting no action. let's listen to one of those interactions. >> as you just testified, have the authority to fix it and you're not fixing it. how many more people have to die before we get you to act in the

road south after 8:30 and the fire reached the roof of the home. one person was inside at the time but made it out ok. right now fire crews are trying to figure out exactly what caused the fire and how much damage there is. to an update on the wildfires in tennessee. the death toll increased to 136789 the latest death was a person who appears to have had a heart attack running from the flames. meanwhile, firefighters are still working to put out hot spots. crews discovering the remains of more people overnight w searching the rubble near the great smokey mountains. more than 700 buildings burned down. and we are now just six days away from the grand opening of mgm's newest casino at the national harbor. the company expects good business and fun but has a warning for drivers this noon. our john gonzalez has the details. john: and coming december 8, well, mgm officials might be shuffling more cars than the actual cards inside the casino. this is what it looks like

away, it's the new landmark here at the national harbor, maryland's sixth casino, $1.4 billion. and the public opening is thursday and from that day on expect to see, get this, around 20,000 people coming in and out daily. developers are convinced the roads in the area can handle the traffic but they say the key is to keep vehicles moving. this premiere resort does have a 5,000 space it. the county executive is excited but admits this could create traffic nightmares, especially opening night which is 11:00 thursday night, the table games and slots will be surrounded by several restaurants, bars, a spa. we also know about the first sarah jessica parker boutique inside and there's a concert theater. >> i think it will build a lot of traffic but have a good benefit for us as a community and bring a lot of people to the

the mgm has to go through two tests and the licensing committee will test the integrity of the slot machines and table games. kind of hard to find, not a lot of signage on the beltway. if you take the harbor exit you'll make a u turn, exit 3, the tanger outlets might be the best bet. jummy: the holiday season is bringing concern about drunk drivers. in on a mission to find them and prevent tragedy. starting now, nine officers will focus their attention on drunk driving and work in four day rotations from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and 2014-2015, more than 700 alcohol related crashes were reported in the county and officers say each crash could end in tragedy. >> to have to deal with the

>> he did. jummy: a terrifying school incident in utah. how quick thinking parents jumped into action to stop a potentially deadly scenario. an and an incident of road rage leads to the death of a former nfl player. his family's pleas coming up. first, luck by to be alive. video of an extremely close call and tell you where this one happens. jamie: we're seeing lighter volume and the reason is because of an accident. but is slow, right after pennsylvania avenue, one lane is blocked and it is with an accident so you see the solid red line. the stop and go traffic starting malcolm x and 25 minutes is what it will take you headed northbound getting to the 11th street bridge. we pull out a little bit. one other area that's slow is northbound b.w. parkway with midday construction in place. if you're traveling on the beltway, not bad through prince

>> you're watching abc 7 news at noon on your side. jummy: must see video of a close call in poland. a speeding car colliding right there with another vehicle and crashes into a light pole missing a woman by inches. hits it and then wow. the light pole is what saved the woman from being hit. you see her in the red coat. the impact knocked her to the ground but she was able to walk away.

was seriously hurt. wow. developing now, a search for the motive in the deadly shooting of former nfl and college football standout joe mcknight. mcknight was shot and killed in an apparent road rage incident outside of new orleans. witnesses say two men got into an altercation at an intersection and moments later shots were fired. mcknight was found in the middle of the street. the shooter stayed at the scene and surrendered to police and since then has been released from custody. >> just was not a troubled kid, young man. the boy was just trying to make it back in the nfl. that's all he wanted to do. that was his whole dream from 6 years old. i've been knowing him from 6 and for this to happen is just senseless and it has to stop. jummy: mcknight was in the nfl

new york jets and kansas city chiefs. he was 28 years old. it was a scary scene outside of salt lake city when shots rang out in a middle school. >> kid with a gun. >> he has a gun. >> did he fully fire off any rounds? >> he did. jummy: police say a 15-year-old student at mueller park junior high arrived at the school with a 12-gauge shotgun and handgun. the parents noticed the guns missing from their home and rushed to the school and when they arrived they heard >> a teacher and student in that room immediately engaged him verbally in trying to talk him out of doing this. i believe those seconds played a big role in the outcome today. jummy: police say the parents coming to the school may have made all the difference. luckily no one was hurt in this incident. well, we are 23 days away now from christmas. can you believe it? and right now preparations are underway for a very special trip.

there tomorrow morning and this morning was as well. sun glasses, jacket, all on for today. gloves as well. now, you can see our temperatures currently we warm to 49 degrees in annandale around edgar allen middle school and 46 in montgomery county but you can also see some of the wind that's in northern montgomery county that's been blowing a little harder. temperatures really the big story and why i show you this. temperatures across the nation, we're 51 degrees here and doing ok through the east in areas down through t look at how much the nation is still quite cold. we know it's early but still the pacific northwest and areas midsection. we're seeing colder air move in and about the northwesterly wind and switched it around this week when we almost hit 70 two days ago and look at the weekend, under 50 degrees so running closer to average. the average now has dropped to 51 degrees but seasonal to just under that. now, a look at today, we are

pressure with a ripple in the atmosphere and for the most part it will be a good-looking day. saturday, it's 3:00 and not much of a difference but sunday clouds creep into the area and actually that didn't pause but clouds will start creeping in and we'll go for mostly sunny to i think mostly cloudy at evening coming your way. we were tracking rain chances but now that's out of the forecast. look at this. dulles town center this evening we drop to 44 degrees and by 7:00, i'm going to be the big tree lighting that takes place from about 6:30 to 7:30. cold one for saturday if you have plans to be up early. temperatures will be in the 30's and these are the wind chill temperatures and we go up to 40 degrees starting at 11:00 a.m. we should stay at about 40 some degrees throughout the afternoon but a cold one as we get into tomorrow evening. those wind chill temperatures a big factor for the upcoming weekend in just a couple

ut our treatment options at cancercenter.com/lung. appointments available now. jummy: it's a story that captured national headlines. a while jogging and then found alive after being held captive for 22 days. tonight, "20/20" has the first interview with her husband. matt gutman joins with us a preview of this one. matt, what did her husband have to say about all this? matt: what didn't he have to say? it was a three-hour interview and i spent four hours with him. he's obviously shaken and she's completely distraught and obviously will take her a long time to recover from this.

to finish what she told him has happened. there are a couple details that she has told police that he couldn't reveal to me but it was basically the entire story of the past month for this family that has been tortured by this supermom's disappearance. she was the type of woman who tried to make a cake and made it better than anybody else. she had christmas decorations that she started to prepare already before she was this woman was so devoted to the family and suddenly is ripped away from them and nobody has answers. it just ripped this family and community apart and we'll have his entire tale of how all of this unfolded. i've got to tell you, jummy, 16 years in this business, it was the most riveting interview i've ever been a part of it. jummy: i can't wait to see it. i know you have several interviews including the local sheriff but you spoke with the

later. what did she have to tell you? matt: she saw her and a lot of people did. she was let go apparently by the side of the road. she was shackled one arm to her waist. she had one arm that was kind of free and waving the bag that was covering her head to try to flag motorists down. because she looked so scary like she had just gotten out of a prison break, nobody stopped for, quote, an extensive period of time. so this woman who ended up calling 911, did describe had to be her. they zoomed to the area. but that's what's so shocking about this. she looked so horrible because she'd been so severely beaten and she was so thin that nobody stopped for her. all of that coming up tonight, jummy. jummy: we look forward to the
