when he takes office. and a terrifying wake up call for people in a northwest neighborhood, nine people including two young girls rushing out of their home after the house and the one next door went up in flames. we take a look at what the fire spread so quickly and the unlikely way that 911 found out about it. >> heavy smoke in the basement and first floor. this house, where there were renovations taken place. the fire started in the basement and took off fast. >> she tried to wake me up to tell me that something was burning. at this point i jumped up because i saw a cloud of smoke. john: the second floor collapsed and firefighters were forced to fight the fire from outside.

over and i people in three units were living. >> my first reaction was to get my family out. and my granddaughter was with me. my wife and my two daughters and i left. john: renovations started weeks ago. this neighbor says smoke alarms were chirping at her home down the street. >> unless i was great and orange, so we got up and got out of the house. john: the fire not a 911 call from a neighbor that notified them about the massive fire, it was an ambulance that happened to be driving by at that moment. >> very rare that the fire would have been going that much. john: one firefighter suffered minor burns and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. in northwest washington, abc 7

next cold jolt in 10 minutes. melanie: developing this hour, the investigation into a crash involving a military truck has resulted in parts of i-95 being shut down this morning. it crashed in the southbound lanes near quantico. you can see it flipped over. and fuel has to be cleaned up. no and a driver is recovering this afternoon after being hit by a dump truck in prince george county. the scene on 210 started with a two-car crash and one driver got out to deal with it and that is when he was hit by a truck driving by. the driver was taken to the hospital. injuries are minor. let's take a look at traffic right now. >> slow in some spots.

reporter: this morning, firefighters tried to push forward with their search and recovery mission after safety concerns in this warehouse brother work to a standstill overnight. >> the unfortunate reality is on this morning, that we are anticipating more bodies being recovered within the structure. reporter: the death toll growing, along with questions known artist collective, whether it could have been prevented. >> we do not have answers yet. reporter: the warehouse was well known for code violations and complaints. that it was not safe for people to be living there. officials say they were living there, but nothing was done. been a deadly fire on friday night. >> everything, orange wall of

the incident took place yesterday, when this man, a 28-year-old entered the restaurant with an assault weapon and a handgun. employees and patrons are able to get out before he fired. eventually, he surrendered to authorities, telling them he was there to investigate. he was investigating a #that was describing bonus news stories deri restaurant. the restaurant of the released a statement saying, i hope those involved in fanning these flames will take a moment to contemplate what happened today and stop promoting also does. nobody was injured, the man from north carolina, the 28-year-old was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. the restaurant will be closed for several days.

development in the case of the accused charleston, south carolina church shooter. dylan roof will be allowed to reinstate his attorneys for part of the trial. he is accused of killing nine people at a black church in 2015. lastly, he told the judge he wanted to represent himself. the judge said it was unwise. and discriminating against a question today in virginia as they look at if gop leaders read drew district lines. a federal court really -- already struck down to districts , saying they relied too heavily on race. in virginia, a court has projected a challenge to a dozen new legislative districts.

casino is opening this week. it is sure to be a party. we have a look at the final preparations. you have to look inside, right brad? brad: you know what, it was cool to go inside. i have been covering this for years, since they first started talking about legalizing slot machines. and now this structure is almost ready to open. we will go inside. when you enter hotel, the big tall tower, the first thing you will see is this. this is the conservatory. it is really large. it rivals any other space in the district. it is decorated for the holidays. there are several restaurants inside as well. including marcus, ginger, and a

district, an area with retail shops, including one from sarah jessica parker. this place does not have the traditional casino but they. they have a big -- buffet. they have a big food court with a number of restaurants. and then into the casino, it is gigantic. 124 gaming tables, poker, but jack -- blackja as 3300 slots machines. one thing they tell you that makes this place different, it is an integrated facility so they will have concerts. bruno mars, lionel richie and cher over the next several weeks. there is also a ballroom and a big hotel. i want to show you some of the final preparations being made.
