announcer: now, "abc 7 news at noon," on your side. melanie: right off the top, a health alert william county, creating a mad scramble for clean drinking water. a water main break has prompted a boil water notice in parts of haymarket and gainesville. john gonzalez has the latest. >> whatever was left there. i have gallons of baby water and some small bottles of drinking water. john: this afternoon there is a mad rush for bottled water in prince william county. >> i just was getting ready to take a shower when i got the

out here. evidently, everybody was out here before me. john: the store shelves in gainesville emptied early this morning. >> especially when you have children in the household. you want to be a look to provide them freshwater. john: several communities in gainesville and haymarket have extremely low water pressure caused by a watering break overnight in a ditch off university boulevard. swim county schools such as -- william county schools such as battlefield high opened on time. but students were asked to bring their own bottled water. >> the county is saying you need to boil your water. it could cause sickness. john: not much water left here on heathcote boulevard. only a few cases of water are left. that is better than next door. his harris teed her is practically out. extra personnel was brought in to arrange an emergency delivery

asked not to drink tap water. this boil water notice will remain in effect for at least the next 48 hours to provide adequate time for the water quality to be tested. in gainesville, john gonzalez, abc 7 news. melanie: breaking news and last month's schoolbus crash and baltimore that killed six people. the bus driver was speeding and had a history of crashes and seizures. an initial report released today shows that glenn chappell driving at nearly twice this be limit when he struck a car from behind and then struck up transit bus. paramedics have been called to check on him a week before when he was exhibiting seizure-like symptoms. authorities are investing -- authorities are investigating a deadly crash from this morning, involving two vehicles and a tractor-trailer.

now for the latest on the deadly warehouse fire in oakland. officials say recovery efforts have ended, leaving the death toll at 36. all in one of the victims has been identified. investigators say a refrigerator or another electrical appliance could have sparked that fire. one woman who lived in the warehouse for five months documented what she describes as deplorable living conditions. >> it was a hellhole, a death trap. melanie: the building permitted for use only as a warehouse, not for housing. the city has received six complaints against the property in the last two years. heading around the world now, a plane crash in pakistan that killed 40 people on board. -- that killed all 40 people on board. it is the first -- that killed all 48 people on board. the cause is unknown.

country. the 6.5 magnitude tremor struck this morning. many homes and buildings were damaged, forcing people out into the streets or into temporary shelters. president barack obama and five other western powers are calling for an immediate cease-fire in the syrian city of aleppo. the president, along with leaders of britain, germany, france, and canada issued a joint statement demanding syria's humanitarian crisis by allowing u.s. aid into aleppo. the leaders want the united nations to investigate reports that war crimes are being committed in syria. closer to home, in the district, students and their families got a chance this morning to meet the person who could be the next chancellor of d.c. public schools, antoine wilson. suzanne kennedy was in northwest at tough when elementary school. suzanne: we are in one of three

announcer: you are watching "abc 7 news at noon," on your side. melanie: check out this police chase of a dui suspect in los angeles. the suspect's car hit the rear wheel of a bicycle at one point, but the cyclist is ok. then one of the wheels comes off. the driver keeps on going. you can see the sparks flying off the wheel. the one-hour chase ended when he gets stuck on a side street and crashes with a pickup which would not let the suspect get by. it is a rush against time for holiday package deliveries. fedex is gearing up for what could be a record-setting holiday season. sam sweeney has more on what you need to know to get your packages delivered on time. sam: good afternoon. this is considered the super bowl for the nation's shipping companies. fedex plans to ship more than 370 million packages this

i will try to explain in less than 60 seconds. at a glance at dulles with these containers onboard. they are loaded onto one of these tractor-trailers. they are unloaded once they get to this facility in alexandria. they go down this conveyor belt, and they are sorted one by one by these people and onto the trucks. then it is off to your neighborhood. in the afternoon, the whole process happens in reverse. these trucks are loaded up again, this time in the to this facility, brought back to the conveyor belt, and the whole process happens in rivers. 55,000 -- and the whole process happens in reverse. 55,000 employees are brought in. one problem is weather and traffic. how do you work around that? >> the weather and traffic or obstacles for us, but having 15 meteorologists on site in
