jonathan: the mayor is going to lead the countdown to midnight and the events are all free of charge. back in our backyard, the fireworks are the centerpiece of the family-friendly celebration going on in old town. michelle: lindsey mastis is live in old town with the first night alexandria preview. hey. lindsey: families can expect the closed roads to keep you safe. alexandria's police department said they are prepared. they won't go into detail but if they are concerned they can call the nonemergency number. a mother i spoke with says because of what happened in germany for example she is concerned. but others not so much.
