announcer: from abc7 news, this is a breaking news alert. jonathan: we are getting breaking news from d.c. police. they just released the body cam video from the shooting death of jaron randall hall christmas day. all along they said javon hall was holding a knife and refused to drop it because of a domestic dispute. the family has disagreed. they have seen the video. we will have it for you in a moment. alison: but first, breaking news from northwest washington where canal road was reopened after violin case filled with guns. brad bell has details on what happened here. brad: it's bizarre. up there, canal road. no traffic right now but it has reopened. we will give you the lay of the land. i'm standing on the bridge over the canal. you can see the stone wall that goes along canal road. just about a couple hundred yards down here, a woman wa

spotted the violin case. curious, she went over, opened it up. saw the guns. brought it back to fletchers and called police. look at video of what happened. as you can imagine, the police rushed to this scene. they found the guns in that violence case. they asked where she found it, they went to that spot and found more guns. they were long guns, pistols and there was ammunition. the police are not telling us if they could tell how long they were there. they will trice them to see if they can link them to anybody or any particular crime. at this point it remains a mystery. it was a traffic nightmare. at least that woman did the right thing. >> this woman saw something and chose to sa s

and there have been charged that the police shot unarmed man. the mayor's office released video and transcripts of the 911 tape. the mayor herself spoke. the transcripts from the 911 tapes for example, here is one of the interrupts that says, "my sister is locked in the house. her boyfriend is crazy. he got a knife. he turned on the gas and i'm locked out." we will warn you that the video is dramatic and may be disturbing. >> put the knife down. put the knife down. put the knife down. >> okay. >> hands up. hands up. go, go, go. >> anytime, sam, that there is a police-involved shooting especially where there is a fatality, it

level that i am going to review any and all body worn camera footage available. and our inclination is to be open and transparent about that information. sam: and the video shows that the dead man had a knife in his hand before police started shooting. and after they had repeatedly told him to drop the knife. the mayor noted the d.c. police officers have body worn camera, all of them have the cameras. she said after this, she believes she was justified in insisting they all have the cameras. of course, as you said, some of the family members have questioned this. one of the problems is there is not a lot of let's say scenery of this knife. it's basically one frame. but it's clearly a knife. and the police officer saw the knife. the mayor did not say the shooting was justified it is clear that she believes that. reporting live from the john wilson bu

abc7 news. jonathan: thanks. well, the other big story we are all watching for, we have been waiting a while for is the winter weather that is headed our way. >> yeah. the timing of the snow arriving tomorrow possibly now moving up. alison: that means it could impact the evening commute now. let's go to the stormwatch7's chief meteorologist doug hill. we are talking about tomorrow evening. doug: yeah, tomorrow evening. it's a possibility that the snow could move in earlier but the better chances are still after sunset toward tomorrow evening. plenty of sunshine today. clear and cold conditions tonight. after temperatures in the 50's today, the temperatures will fall and stay on the cold side for several days to come. here is the energy from the system across part of the midplains right now. leading edge right now through nebraska. continues to move eastward for the next 36 hours or so, we have a number of the winter weather advisories springing up well in advance of the path. there are no advisories for the area yet but it is a possibility if this track holds there could be winter weather advisor

the hospital. everyone is expected to be okay. michelle: the department of energy building in d.c. overheating batteries sent fumes in a room and three people were getting sick there. they were evaluated and they are in southwest and we are told they are okay. d.c. fire and e.m.s. says this emergency is over. jonathan: i want to show you something. i was dark last night with the cloud cover. you see the blinking red lights? that is the washington monument. normally there are lights below it to illuminate the monument. it doesn't happen last night. as dark as a crow's wing. the red light is all you could see. the park service told us it appears to have pin pointed the problem but not the cause. >> the clock in the system that keeps the lights automated out of sink. it's been correct and the lights will be on this evening when the sun goes down. jonathan: there you go. they supply it

woman who confessed to using the man's credit card at stores across prince george's county. they have surveillance video for coming and going with the car. montgomery county reporter kevin lewis has the latest in the investigation. >> you know, we got to find john. kevin: bob donohoe has no clue what happened to his 36-year-old son john. last seen at his parent's bethesda home three weeks ago. >> we are trying everything. we have not been successful. kevin: then a break. police uncovered this surveillance video of a woman using john donohoe's credit card to buy hundreds of dollars in hair extensions, brazilian oil and wig at two stores, including premium beauty supply in hyattsville. the credit card was later declined at a local gas station and upper marlboro mcdonald's. following extensive news coverage the woman 25-year-old chernor sheriff of upper

according to charging documents at first she told cops a stranger handed her donohoe's credit card but later claimed her boyfriend gave it to her but she offered no information about how he got it. >> i have been visiting his apartment regularly. kevin: bob donohoe pleading with the public to keep an eye out for his son's black chevy equinox with maryland tags. so, is chernor sheriff somehow connected to john donohoe's disappearance? police won't say for sure. but they have charged her with four counts of credit card fraud. her boyfriend, however, hasn't been charged as of yet. live in prince george's county, kevin lewis, abc7 news. michelle: the national museum of african american history and culture is distributing tickets for april now. time passes became available this morning and the tickets are going fast. the museum will also give out a limited number

tomorrow night. it's delightful right now. 53 and sunshine after the clouds and fog this morning. wind gusts were reported not long ago at 40 miles per hour at b.w.i., thurgood marshall. everybody else upper 20's to 30's. gusty winds bringing in colder air and the skies are mostly clear. we will see the temperatures slowly drop in the upper 30's. it will be breezy and cooler throughout the evening as the high pressure will work its way in and back out of the area. the fact that the high pressure moves out opens the door for the approach of the upper level system. quickly moving out of the north and west. by itself it doesn't have a lot of moisture with it. it's alberta clipper system in general. what will happen generally is as this approaches new low pressure area develops off the coast of carolina and take over and pull the moisture out. in the process of it happening the window is open for six or eight hours to get light snow in here for late tomorrow night and tomorrow

some places could get inch and a half or two inches. by 6:00 a.m. friday it's all out of here with clearing skies in the afternoon. gusty winds, too. and the next frame if we were to show you there will be another coastal storm, larger one that is expected to develop saturday. but that, too, will move out. i don't think we will get any effects of that other than gusty breezes and cold temperatures over the weekend. this is predicting .2 for washington. more, an 1.5 inch farther north and west. with the cold temperatures even the smaller amount can cause slick spots friday morning. once we get past this, friday is partly sunny afternoon. saturday and sunday it is cold and breezy. the highs at best near 30. monday, tuesday, it will be chilly. but then we will see a warmup coming our way. we may get precipitation

alison: wendy's is getting a lot of attention on social media today. michelle: because of an exchange between the fast food restaurant and a customer. jonathan: lindsey mastis shows us what the beef is all about. this is a dustup here. lindsey: this is hilarious to read everything. they are going at it with a lot of different people. this is just one. it starts when this guy starts talking smack about beef patties. he writes wendy's, your beef is frozen and we all know it. you know we laugh at your slogan, "fresh, never frozen" right? like you're really a joke. most billion dollar companies would ignore that. but not wendy's. wendy's response, "sorry to hear you think that. but you are wrong. we have only ever used fresh beef since we were founded in 1969." so now the customer says q,

jonathan: a foggy and a wet start to the morning. the attention now turns to the wintry weather ahead for us. hmm. doug: fog really, it shows how it changed from the beautiful sunshine and the warm temperatures to the 50's. this pattern in september and january, the rapid day-to-day changes. jonathan: this is mild. we are due for snow. doug: that is just what we'll get. a little snow tomorrow night. we start with this. this is the belle haven country club this morning. through the morning the fog quickly lifted. i took a few hours but the skies cleared. we have a beautiful afternoon. it's windy with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 50's. it's gorgeous but it won't last for long. clouds roll back tomorrow ahead of a system coming in more than

thought was a suicide but now investigated as a murder. terry kraus was found shot at a home in annapolis. our richard reeve is there now with the information that led the police to move forward with the investigation as a murder investigation. opposed to suicide. rich? richard: you can see the holiday decorations. this happened down the road in a long driveway. at first, authorities thought it was a suicide. 55-year-old kraus found shot in his own backyard. his wife joanne called it in. called 911 saying she heard shots. now this area is a very quiet neighborhood. woodsy place. sources say the police arrived and they found him shot three times in the back. they tried c.p.r. without success. investigators say this case is wide open. no motive or suspect. was it a robbery?

the boy will be just fine. good lesson for him. michelle: quite a sight in hawaii. some people were willing to risk their lives to get a better look. part of a lava delta collapsed in the ocean sending huge plume of volcanic rock in the air. but five people tried to enter a roped off area ignoring the warning signs. lucky for them the park rangers chased them away. minutes later the area, the group had been standing on also collapsed. jonathan: lucky. this was a case that gripped the country in the late 1980's. menendez brothers convicted of killing their parents in the beverly hills home to get inheritance. now abc is airing a new documentary about the crime and trial and what life has been like for the brothers all these years. >> my name is lyle menendez. i have been in prison for 26
