storm winter weather watch for you. michelle: the snow is moving in. timing is critical. alison: prince william and fairfax county already canceled evening activities. we thank you for staying with us at abc7 news today. we have team coverage for you. michelle: from the studios throughout the d.m.v. don't miss an update. stormwatch7's chief meteorologist doug hill is monitoring the system and steve rudin is out with stormtrak7. alison: tom roussey and richard reeve are also monitoring conditions. we begin with doug hill in the forecastment doug: we have flurries right now but closer to sunset the steadier snow will arrive. in advance of that, winter weather until 5:00 in jurisdictions north and west of the district. we could get a couple of inches of snow. we will talk about the snow possibilities and maybe impacts in the morning in a couple of minutes. but right now, steve rudin is in stormtrak7. checkk the conditions. any fl

steve: not yet. we are in route 7 in sterling. moving to ashburn. a little blue in the sky at this hour. the temperatures are cold enough for snow. roadways are treated so no problems there. so when the light snow does arrive in the next few hours and in the overnight hourses the main roadways seem to be well treated at this point. we will make the final destination in ashburn over the next 15, 20 minutes or so. we will pull out the computers and take a look at what is going on in about 15 minutes. but right now looking at route 7, we are headed to ashburn. no problems at all. the roadways are dry and a little blue sky. let's head back inside the studios with doug. doug: all right, steve. on the radar and the satellite you can see a little break of clouds in the west. but the other side of the mountains the main weather disturbance to bring us measurable snow tonight. intermittent for the next few hours and later i

the future cast gives us a guide for the everything and the nighttime hours. by 9:00 there might be steadier lines of snow from the west. the story late tonight and overnight. the temperatures will drop below freezing overnight. check this out, by 3:00 in the morning, the computers have most moved out of the area. temperatures will fall a bit. with that in mind, the temperatures below freezing and an inch or with the of snow. there could be icy patches. snowy patches in the commute for the morning for sure. that is a story late tonight as well. we will keep it through 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning and then we see it improve a bit. how much snow? an inch or two for those under advisories and everybody else should figure one inch of snow. we have a lot more to say about it coming up in 10 or 12 minutes. jonathan: thanks. abc7 has you covered for the morning commute. do you remember that? we got a bit of snow or freezing rain and literally people were walking out on interstate 66. alison: it was terrible. i was a small snowstorm that hit. it dropped just a little bit. but it froze on untreated highways. michelle: this was two days before the big blizzard hit. commutes took eight plus hours for some people. richard reeve in mobiletrack7 with the changes prompted by the little storm. rich? richard: yeah, guys, nobody likes driving on this stuff. we are on the dulles toll road. you can see the pretreat on the road. but now the national weather service has a new alert system to help drivers out there. as drivers in the d.m.v. brace for the wicked weather -- >> if it's dangerous conditions, it's dangerous conditions. richard: the national weather service, n.w.s. for short is on storm watch. >> there is a

addressing. richard: n.w.s. staffers have weather statement on advanced heads up for the road and snow conditions. >> if you have it happening in the rush hour it comes together invariably there are problems and usually big problems. richard: for example, few of us will forget last january's snow zilla storm that dumped several feet in the metro area. days before there was a mini storm, just a little snow. but with 19 degree road services it made driving a challenge. >> is your bigger concern bad roads or bad weather? >> the roads. richard: through twitter and other social media, the weather service would push critical information about the road temps and the like. >> people know what is going on outside before they get out there. richard: no alert today but drivers like the idea of an advancedded warning. >> i don't have a four-wheel i

lot. richard: it sure could help. no alert tonight because so far the roads are relatively warm. that could change as we move in the everything hours. my buddy tom roussey is somewhere in maryland monitoring conditions there. what is going on? tom: well, let me show you, rich. we had the sun come out a moment ago. we are christening snow track today. this is the snow track video at abc7. the sun literally came out. you can see the weather is fine. you can also see that the roads are heavily pretreated. we are on interstate 70 in hagerstown right now. we have seen a truck, a number of miles back toward frederick waiting on the side of the road with a bunch of salt in it for whatever comes. so far it's not hitting here. so washington county is pretty good to travel right now. that could change quickly over the next few hours. so the roads are treated. they are ready and waiting. a lot of the salt trucks. we are waiting for the weather to get here.

f.b.i. agents fanned out across prince george's county this morning and they raided two liquor stores including palmer liquor on m.l.k. boulevard and hit the office of the prince george's county liquor board. for hours we could see agents inside, sometimes carrying boxes of files. they arrested a member of the board anuj sud and the administrator david son. it is alleged liquor store owner and the lobbyists actively bribed sud and two unnamed officials with cash in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. the u.s. attorney saying this afternoon after the defendants appeared in court that public corruption can't be tolerated. our goal is put fear in those and have them worried we're in the neighborhood. the investigation is ongoing for four

it is not over yet. brad: soon to be named a state delegate and senator. one of them, we don't know the names and we don't know which one has already accepted a plea deal. we are told that the other will be charged soon with accepting money to vote for legislation in the statehouse. brad bell, abc7 news. jonathan: a metro employee trying to clear debris fell 30 feet under the tunnel. to rescue him an e.m.s. team sent down there and they had to pipe in warm air because it was so cold out there they were concerned they would go hypothermic. they stabilized the guy and pulled

it is cold enough for snow. falls church, springfield, clifton, centreville now just around that freezing mark. this is the roadway temperatures to tell the story. inside and around the capital beltway, the road temperatures now in the lower 40's. the further north and west you go. north and west on frederick. over to hancock area. we are likely to see accumulation stick to the ground and the roadways. looking live, traffic moving freely. the roadways on the left of the screen have been treated so hopefully fingers crossed it will go okay around here. we are waiting for a first few flakes of snow to fall. see where the snow is now. we will head back inside to

doug: thank you, steve. the current temperature and the current roadway temperatures, that is a lock. when the snow begins it will melt. pretreated roads, too. for a while. late tonight and overnight we have concerns. you saw the break in the cloudiness in some spot and precipitation. but the main body still across west virginia, southern ohio and northern kentucky. it will swing over later tonight. the steadiest snow is 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. when it ends, it will end. it's an individual disturbance in the atmosphere. it will swing through and when it's done, it's done. not here yet. still time in the next couple hours. adjusting the snow totals these are the computerized outputs to look at inch and a half or the higher elevations closer to two inches by the time it ends tomorrow morning. we will be an inch or less. especially farther south and east from the area. that is on target. a map form of that. dusting to an inch in the metro. lesser amount south and

kevin? kevin: the manager was working and prepping food with female employee. the store hadn't opened yet. they were the only two inside. that is when he allegedly grabbed the woman, dragged her to the bathroom and stated he wanted to "make love to her." the woman flailed her body and eventually breaking free as another employee showed up for work. the woman who had bruises and scratches and called police. investigators indicate that the surveillance camera caught most of the attack. today, california tortilla told us it fired him immediately. so in an effort to make ends meet the 40-year-old married father of four applied to be an uber driver and was accepted. he has been driving passengers for three weeks now.

larry: 7 on storm watch. the winter weather in the area. fast-moving storm has falls church and fairfax, prince william, stafford and frederick county canceling the evening activities. there are more at the bottom of the screen. we have crews tracking the impact across the area with doug hill. doug: on this thursday evening there is no snow in the area now. we have seen very light snowshowers and flurries. more to come after sunset. a winter weather advisory continues continues in effect for the areas in purple. north/northeast and northwest of the metro washington area until 5:00 tomorrow morning. in these areas the greatest likelihood of 1 to 2 inches of snow and the likelihood there could be an impact to traffic. farther south and east, there could be patchy spots but generally in a better shape. way down at the bottom of the map for the northern neck and the st. mary's county, winter watch for saturday. maybe more significant snow from a separate system.
