the tarmac for hours. the airport rain at about 85% today, passengers waiting in long lines, some of which curved outside the building. a few flights got to the district. anna-lysa gayle picks up our coverage from the newsroom. was it tough for them to go back today? anna-lysa: certainly, kimberly. the passengers arrive today at 6 p.m. from a jetblue flight directly from fort lauderdale, many of them tired from the delays they experienced. those who frequently use the airport say today the environment was different. passengers returning to d.c. patience saturday afternoon as they traveled from fort lauderdale airport less than 24 hours after the violent attack that left five dead. elizabeth's flight was canceled after the shooting and we booked. >> my flight was scheduled today . we left at 5 p.m.

passengers say the airport was not the same. >> it felt weird, knowing something happened the night before. a lot of the businesses were closed, the flights were not on time. >> people were super helpful. anna-lysa: these three students say it was so packed, they had to find a seat on the floor. as law-enforcement continued their investigation, passengers also noticed an increase in security and fort lauderdale. >> it took longer to get through security. andhe sheriff's office definitely security through the airport. people were more alert and a bit frightened. anna-lysa: did you feel nervous about flying out today? >> a little nervous, a little hesitant, but i knew i had to be back here for school. all the work the police and law enforcement were doing and just hope for the best. anna-l
