liability. i don't know that i am going to get along with vladimir putin. i hope i do. but there is a good chance i won't. q: president-elect donald trump didn't mince words when it came to russia, especially with the allegation about russia hacking the 2016 election came up. for the first tame, mr. trump admitted he believes the reports. >> as far as hacking, i think it was russia but i think we also get hacked by other countries and other people. q: for trump's campaign dealing with russia as reported tuesday by digital media outlet buzz feed and the full unverified dossier of allegation it published, trump trashed the site calling it garbage and called the findings -- >> nonsense that was released by maybe the intelligence agencies. who knows? but maybe the intelligence agencies which would be a tremendous blot on their record if they in fact did that.

the goal here of this news conference was to deal with trump not wanting to release his tax filings. that topic came up once today, brought up by a reporter. it doesn't look like he plans to release them soon. he told the crowd the average voter isn't worried about his tax returns. from the "live desk," q mccray, back to you. jonathan: thanks. the main topic of the news conference was originally supposed to be the president-elect plan to separate himself from business. that was laid out. see the envelopes on the tablep? they were stacked that high and across the table. all his business. trump maintains he could still run the companies and the country if he wanted to but he will allow the sons to take over the family business. >> as a president i could run the trump organization, great, great company and i could run the country. i'd do a very good job. i don't want to do it. >> it would be impossible to find a institutional trustee competent to run the trump

a fire is out at the watergate. fortunately nobody was hurt. a lot of smoke. spread to several floors on the waterfront. a lot of people walked by and saw the smoke and called 911. michelle: it is back to work for the maryland state lawmakers but today it is under a cloud of controversy. the prince george's county liquor board bribery allegations the buzz in annapolis. maryland bureau chief brad bell is there. this will have a significant impact on session for 2017. >> you know what? it will be there. it's a cloud. and we are hearing it from delegates. normally the opening day is ceremonial. the house chooses a speaker and that side the senate, and the president. but today, drama and tension. maryland house of delegates opened the 2017 session to a glaring absence and

delegation. just before the opening gavel, delegate michael vaughn submitted his resignation citing health concerns. however, it's widely believed vaughn has been implicated in the growing p.g. bribery scandal which has already seen five arrests. here is senate president mike miller. >> michael vaughn has resigned. apparently they will charge him. brad: federal court documents unsealed after a series of raids and arrests last week included language describing a delegate that took bribes and served on a committee and cast a certain vote. i seemed to be vaughn. additionally this scrap-yard affiliated with vaughn was searched by the f.b.i. rushern baker said it plim me vated that -- implicated vaughn did the right thing. >> you should resign and step down if you violated the public trust. that is the honorable thing to do. brad: when we come back we hear from larry hg

jonathan: developing now. the hunt is on for person who stab and killed two people at the westfield wheaton mall. abc7 news was on the story 24 hours ago. police stormed the mall and stopped trains across the redline but the leads are tough to come back. kevin lewis spoke with people who saw the aftermath. it was kind of crazy at the mall. chaotic. kevin: yes. a midday stabbing that turned into a double murder. no doubt. police identified the first victim of 22-year-old angel pineda-gomez of silver spring. police have not identified the second murder victim. this all happened around 3:10 in the afternoon. police called out to the westfield wheaton in front of the hollister store. two men stabbed and a number of eyewitnessed. police rushed to the security office where they reviewed surveillance video of the

announced look out for a man around 5'10er"'wearing black sneakers and left the mall in exit 11 near the vay can't ruby tuesday. he had a long-bladed knife in his hand. they distributed the images to metro, ride on and taxi and they shut down the wheaton station but the man managed to get away. today there was a noticeable uptick in mall security. dental office where one of the victims ran and then collapsed was closed for business today. >> there was blood. they are whying to clean it up. take evidence. they were painting the ceiling because there was blood on the ceiling as well. >> i'm glad i didn't see that

you know. how can anybody do that? kevin: one thing that is not clear is a motive. we don't know if the murder knew who he killed or they exchanged words leading up to the stabbing or a total random incident. a lot of people curious and concerned today. live in wheaton, i'm kevin lewis, abc7 news. michelle: thank you. former daily show host john stewart taking on a cause that has nothing to do with cracking jokes about politicians. he and his wife received approval to open an mare sanctuary in new jersey. the 45-acre farm will be home for animals saved from the slaughter houses, road side and live markets and it will include after-school programs and be open for student trips and lectures for adults. jonathan: the force is apparently strong in los angeles. it beat out san francisco to be the future site of the lucas museum of art.

country. audrey living in wisconsin, gracie in washington state. both girls were born with a heart condition and last month audrey's mother became curious about her daughter's past. with the help of the chinese ceremonyer, she discovered this photo that shows audrey on her chinese foster mother's knee with another baby that looks just like her. >> as san as i had the picture i was desperate to find out who the other child was. >> with the help of the social media, the families connected. >> it was so crazy to be looking at what looked like gracie but knowing that it wasn't gracie. yeah, surreal. brianne: now a decade later the girls reunitednited in a face-to-face meeting. >> i felt like there was something missing. now it's complete. brianne: brianne carter, abc7 news. michelle: they handled it so well. they are so young. so much attention. they are on national tv.

michelle: d.c. police and mayor muriel bowser believe they have a good strategy when it comes to improve accountability across all districts. stephen tschida has a look at the patrolling plan announced this morning. stephen: violent crime festers in the nation's capital but today, words of encouragement from the top cop. >> crime is down in the district of columbia. crime is down. stephen: how far down? in 2016, the city saw a 10% decline in violent crime. 13% reduction in robbery. 17% drop in homicide. >> with all of that

at trump tower. what was the main take-away from the press conference? watching it from our end was fiery. something we have never seen before. elizabeth: perhaps the main take-away here is moving forward expect the press conferences to be wild. more of what we have seen in the campaigning months. he doesn't like working off scripts. today coming in, we are didn't know what to expect. he certainly didn't work off any script. he answered most of the questions from reporters but he actually refused to answer some. even going as far as calling out one cable news outlet, calling them fake news. so yes, he will have no problem calling out a few news outlet, answering the questions he wants to. i think the main take-away here is his press conferences will be wild and anything but dull. jonathan: that is a fair comment. let me ask you, t

do we know what russia's reaction to what was said at the press conference? elizabeth: their reaction remains what they have said all along that no, they had nothing to do with hacking in the democratic party. as far as this latest allegations are concerned that they have incriminating information to be used against trump. they say absolutely false. and the reports should be used as humor but the democrats are not taking it likely. they are calling for a full investigation. russia saying they had nothing to do with anything we're reporting on. jonathan: we appreciate it. thank you. michelle: when president barack obama gave his farewell speech so one was notably absent. his youngest daughter. that sent twitter on a frenzy to search for answers using the
