>> reporter: but u.s. officials believe it. saying they think putin ordered the hacking of the democratic party in part because he feared clinton would be tougher to deal with than trump. as for that former british spy, u.s. authorities tell us he's considered a reliable and trusted source who has helped in past fbi investigations involving both the kremlin and russian organized crime. brian ross, abc news, new york. and one more note from the doj. the department of justice is set to announce the findings from a civil rights investigation into the chicago police department. the attorney general will be in chicago today to deliver that report which concludes the police department has routinely violated the rights of civilians for years. chicago's mayor wants to read the report before making changes. a passenger jet under investigation this morning in northern california. it happened on board on alaska airlines flight from seattle to san jose.

officials in san jose were alerted to some sort of concern on board. we're told a number of passengers were taken to the hospital. no word on their conditions. and oklahoma is under a state of emergency this morning as the state braces for what could be a debilitating a storm. >> officials are preparing for widespread power outages. more than 100 generators throughout the state. some people could be without electricity for two days. a freezing advisory. for freezing rain is in effect. most of oklahoma along with four other states under a winter storm watch. >> we get ice but not too bad this time of year. the ice is to continue into sunday as much as an inch of ice. that could be dangerous leading to treacherous conditions on the roadways. there is a less expensive version of the epipen.

cvs is selling it. the generic version costs $110. that compares to the price tag of more than $600 for mylan's epipen. the new version is months after congress blasted mylan for boosting the prices of that life saving product. the world's largest online retailer is increasing its staff. amazon announced plans to add 100,000 jobs in the u.s. and the staff positions will increase amazon's american work force by over 50% in the next 18 months to more than 280,000. the move is an effort to bring goods closer to customers. amazon has not said where most of the hiring will take place. now to a driver who took the term drive through a little bit too far. >> here's the video from the moment a woman drove through the front window of a t mobile store. police haven't said why she did that.

god bless the usa. >> next to a little known piece of tragic music history. partly involves "american pie". don mclean's song. it describes the day the music died. it tells a beautiful story. it's about a tragedy that day back in 1959, the plane crash that killed buddy holly and ritchie valens and big bopper. >> the story most people don't know is about tommy who was part of buddy holly's band. he lost a coin toss that left him off of that plane. what a fate for him. >> fascinating. they flipped a coin to see whether he or valens got a play. -- a seat on the plane. he lost the toss and had to take the bus to the next tour stop. now tommy passed away from complications from a hernia operation. he was 85 years old. he lived a long life after that tragic plane crash there. all as a result of that coin toss.
