door. brad: the man stabbed his father and then his wife as she tried to intervene. they ran from the house that headed to the home of a neighbor who happened to be a prince george's county police officer. >> i heard loud bang on my door. it woke me up out of my sleep. >> 19-year veteran officer larry lawson has seen a lot in his career. but this time the violence reached his doorstep. the victim with severe neck wounds. >> we are going to deal with your wounds right now. just keep talking to me to let me know you are still breathing and are still alive. brad: lawson radioed in for help and assisted with the arrest of the suspect in the home. he was too transported with what are believed to be self-inflicted slash wounds to

detailed let you know as soon as we get more information. back to you. jonathan: thanks. 24 hours ago two shot, a fire set, hostage situation and a barricade situation. a lot going on. michelle: all at one scene. this played out in herndon ending with the shooter/hostage taker dead. northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg is there tonight. that was a scary scene for a lot of people in that neighborhood with the row homes evacuated during this standoff. >> yeah, a lot of panic yesterday. a lot of people really scared and concerned. today, a lot of anger and raw emotion for those close to the man shot and killed by the fairfax county police yesterday. following the hostage situation. this is on covered wagon lane.

identified yesterday. the swat team members approached the home. they got word that two brothers were driving themselves to the hospital. authorities say they heard more gunshots from inside the home. they received a 911 call from a man saying he was held inside the home by the shooter. the man later identified as the man the caller said was being held hostage. he then lit the house on fire and fired a gun inside the home. they fired a shot at him and he later died at the hospital. we spoke to a friend who did not want to identify herself. >> he could have shot him in the shoulder.

day. announcer: from abc7 news, this is a breaking news alert. alison: the breaking news comes from the white house where in the last hour president obama commuted chelsea manning's sentence. jonathan elias has the latest on the breaking news. jon chelsea manning was supposed to serve 35 year in prison for leaking army documents. now she will be out of the federal president in may. this happened when chelsea was still bradley manning and the first big break for wikileaks. i revealed the activities of the military and the diplomats around the world. recently last week, wikileaks founder julian assange said he would turn himself in to the united states if the president pardoned manning. manning is one of 209 inmates that the president shortened sentences for today. he pardoned 64 including retired general cartwright. cartwright was charged with making the false statements to the federal ies
