glamorous events and celebrations, stand in contrast to continuing anger on the streets. alison: we begin with breaking news now. on the night of the inauguration, more than 200 people have been arrested during protests on the streets of the city we have watched tense moments with fights breaking out and people smashing windows. jonathan: all of this happening the mid-music, dance, and celebration in d.c. this is the armed services ball where president trump and first lady made their way in. ♪

with the crowd is doing? down,hings have calmed but things were different earlier. the president is a few blocks that way. from where i am, only one block to the convention center where other inaugural balls are going on. over here in the distance, earlier tonight, a lot of folks going to these balls, a lot of police and protesters. it was a very combustible mix. video of what happened, protesters gathering as people going to the balls walked by, screaming at the top of their throwing liquids at some of the people going to the balls, particularly women. see any protesters arrested after that, but that's what's going on. try to formtesters a line, try to prevent anybody from going inside the marriott, where e

the police forcibly took them apart at that point and made sure folks could continue to get in. things got dicey for a while. after that, on massachusetts avenue and 10th, things got calmer. here is video from a few blocks away, our's earlier. shutting down streets, protesting. at one point they got within two blocks of the convention center where some of the major inaugural balls are going on tonight. the police decided they would not let them go further. then things got a little crazy. in fact, our photographer ben, because of acurb and a police officer with a baton, they fell over, but the police were using batons, pushing protesters. at one point the protesters whenever a police car, that is when the police really moved in quickly. through all this

not see any arrests. was again, things have aclmed down in -- calmed down in northwest. live in northwest, tom roussey, abc 7 news. alison: ok, tom, thank you. six police officers have been injured during the protests. fortunately, none of the injuries are serious. still tonight, there is evidence of a deep divide in the country. anna-lysa gayle joins us live in northwest. anna-lysa, what are you seeing? rightysa: well, alison, now, no protesters, just people hanging out near franklin square. this intersection reopened just before 9 p.m. earlier this evening, people were sitting in the streets. officers had to move them to the sidewalks. there are officers still monitoring the intersection, but things are a lot different from earlier this afternoon. anna-lysa: as supporters celebrated the inauguration, protesters were the streets of d.c. although most were nonviolent, some vandalized property. at one point, people smashed windows of this starbucks. >> there were some damage outside. they apparently through a cue ball through our window. and the window of the bus stops outside. they also kicked over newspaper stands and set papers on fire. anna-lysa: jeremy watched his salon as protesters chanted in the middle of the street most of the day. he also watched as flam complete spread when a limo was set on fire. blocked theotesters street in southwest. with all that happening, he closed his salon ahead of time. >>

manager and they suggested we closed. >> all the destruction and all the police officers are just want to do their jobs. i don't think that's the right thing to do. anna-lysa: the anti-trump protest group set out a news , saying about0 120 of their protesters were arrested this afternoon. they expect they will be arraigned tomorrow afternoon. live from 14th and k, anna-lysa gayle, abc 7 news. jonathan: this is richard spencer, a white supremacist who ias been seen provoking naz salutes. today he was punched in the face by a protester and the man who punched him just took off. spencer has rented property in alexandria, old town. despite the protests of

in the neighborhood. of. is not the only site protests. antitrust demonstrators gathering in several states. anti-trump demonstrators gathering in several states across the country. no word on injuries at any of the demonstrations. toson: right now we want take another look at the military ball tonight, as president trump continues to address the crowd. military, as well as those serving in afghanistan who are watching on the screen. let's listen for just one second. president trump: we are going to everamerica greater than before. so i want to thank all of you.

also dancing with a service member, dancing to woody houston's "-- to whitney houston's i will always love you. the troops are supposed to ask questions, but all five troops who spoke just congratulated him him being a nominated and being elected the 45th president of the united states. he joked that he liked them a lot more than the people on the podium, alluding to the media, the contentious relationship between the president and the media. but they loved that. the president also mentioned general kelly and general mattis approved today, and the crowd went wild for that. this was really the moment of the night, perhaps one of the most significant moments of all theballs out here, president clapping, saluting the troops, congratulating t

light drizzle and fog beginning to form. asibility about an eighth of mile in westminster and frederick and martinsburg. not so bad around the immediate metro, although that is likely to change in the morning. middle to upper 40's in the morning, at least for the time being staying that way. it is quiet and dry right now. weather we had during the midday hours now well to the north and east. no worries there at all, but we do have reined back in the forecast for parts of the weekend. a little bito 45, of fog in the morning. waking up early, another big event on the way tomorrow, the temperatures in the lower to middle 40's. for the women's march on washington, starting at 10 a.m., midday temperatures eventually into the middle 50's, and at least it will be dry. we may see brakes and the clouds, but don't expect a lot of sunshine. we will see m

winchester,nster, woodstock, harrisonburg, that is the best chance of sunshine. inside the capital beltway, southern maryland, cloudy skies. showers develop late tomorrow night into early sunday morning mainly south and east of d.c., across delmarva. once that lifts out, another system, a stronger system brings heavier rain to the area late sunday night into monday morning. we could be looking at anywhere three inches of rain by the time the system moves out. the air will not be cold. if it was colder, we would be looking at a huge snowstorm, but we are not looking at that. that will be gone by tuesday. middle 50's with areas of rain come heavy at times monday. clearing out tuesday, middle 50's. upper 50's, near 60 wednesday. the following weekend,

jonathan: today was not just a welcome to the truck family as president, but also a goodbye to the obama family, leaving the last house for the time today. they boarded an airplane for palm springs this afternoon. he spoke with the troops at joint base andrews, folks who abandoned helping him a lot over the last eight years, they have become family members if you will, so we took time to thank the crowd and said one more time, "yes, we can." we never -- --: neverresident biden: we felt we left home. and that was former

biden in delaware today. he told reporters today that he and obama will see each other very soon, reiterating they will be remaining very close friends. jonathan: the inauguration was barely over and people are trying now to compare this inauguration to inaugurations past. here is a look side, president obama second inauguration on the left, trump's on the right. there are a few less people, and a lot of folks making a lot of that. there are still a lot of people in the country who do not vote, but in the process we know there is a winner and loser. the other thing is the security. it was so extraordinarily tight that before the inauguration there were still people lined up almost a block trying to get in, and they had to wait in missed out on
