protests a day after donald trump was sworn in, protesters peacefully gathering outside of the trump hotel, then moving towards the nation's capital. anna-lysa gayle is live outside of the white house with a look at what's going on right now. anna-lysa: this is a much smaller group then we saw yesterday during the inauguration at 14th and k streets. the people are quiet, mostly just having a discussion. they started in front of the white house, then went down 14th street and wound up back in front of the trump hotel, which has become a common staging area for protesters. of the video some from earlier, showing workers cleaning up signs left in front of the trump hotel, dumped by people who participated in the women's march, also signs left behind. i can tell you, i talked with one of the

they have been following the protester several hours. the men and women here making sure that everything stays peaceful. they have been working long, hard hours. back to you. kimberly: anna-lysa, thank you so much. but mild day for marchers and protesters. you may need to keep the relic close tomorrow. meteorologist molly cochran has the forecast. molly: showers will be increasing overnight. , shades of green south of d.c., but it has been cloudy and drizzly all day long. mostly cloudy overnight into sunday. the future not looking very bright, and we also have a dense fog advisory issued, extended until 5 a.m. sunday towards frederick county and the mason-dixon line.

exercise caution as we will be dealing with patchy fog in dreary conditions. the extended forecast coming up, and how much rain we are expecting. kimberly? >> ♪ this girl is on fire kimberly: thanks, molly. music, speeches, celebrities from across the nation in a show of support. about 500,000 people filled the national mall, holding signs and marching, spreading many messages in the women's march on washington. amy aubert was out there this evening as the crowds dwindled, but the signs and spirits were very much alive. amy: small groups still lingered. >> it has inspired me to think more outside of my own circle. she is one of thousands of people holding signs in taking part in the women's march on washington hours earlier. >>

as night falls, some say the message and atmosphere still lingers. >> everybody was engaged with each other and everybody -- the energy, the kindness. it was really -- fill the grass. there is no more room on the fence. it continued for as far as you could see. >> i think this was sony and has a new installation. smithsonian has a new installation. it is art, it tells a story. amy: a story told by so many. >> something for you, something for your fellow man or woman. >> we did all of this for each other, with each other, for all women, for all races, skin colors, genders.

do it together. amy: amy aubert, abc 7 news. kimberly: we should point out there has been some criticism of the march. complain the fiery rhetoric was just as bad as during the presidential campaign. some women say they were pushed out of the women's march and some question the timing of the noth and why they did organize and speak out before the election. arch participants had to get here somehow, most of them hopping on metro. by 11 a.m., metro reported 275,000 riders, eight times as much as a typical saturday. by 4 p.m., nearly 600,000 people had gone through the gates. anna-lysa gayle continues our team coverage with a look at today's test of the rails. anna-lysa: women were overjoyed at the women's

washington which attracted hundreds of thousands from across the country. >> it was marvelous. he gave me hope. their warm way more people than i thought. it was also. >> -- it was awesome. >> it was so crowded in could barely move, yet people were smiling and patient and energetic. >> i was impressed how many people came and how positive people were. anna-lysa: a great turnout meant overcrowded trains and sometimes longer wait times, putting metro to the test as people started making their way home. >> we started at the rosslyn station this afternoon, heading towards federal triangle. let's see how long it takes. >> doors closing. anna-lysa: after stalling for a short while, the train took off and at each stop we saw more and more people. the trip took about 20 minutes.

between eight minutes and 11 minutes a, according to the metro trip planner. metro did warn riders to expect delays. many say the women's march was worth the wait. >> it's a good problem to have. >> they were wonderful, everybody was helpful. it was what it was supposed to be. anna-lysa: anna-lysa gayle, abc 7 news. see that when do you many people smiling in a crush of a crowd on metro? millions of americans marched and held rallies across the country today, the largest appearing in los angeles where ,000nizers estimate 750 people took part. in new york, they think 500,000 people marched, most along fifth avenue near trump towers. similar marches as well, like this one near park city. and they were not confined to the u.s., with paris and
