in "the skinny." it's monday, january 23rd. we say good morning to you on this monday. we'll start with severe weather on both coasts. deadly tornadoes, flooding, and power outages. the east showing the deadly storm moving east off the coastline with lots of activity. still over the mid atlantic. >> and in the west lots of rain and snow making travel nearly impossible in some areas. this was the scene in southern california. flood waters cascading down steps near l.a. thousands are without power and some schools even cancelled. >> just amazing scene there in los angeles. south south, recovery efforts are underway after twisters touched down over the weekend in mississippi. four people were killed. but the hardest hit area is south georgia

toll is now at least 15. an entire mobile home park was flattened. abc reports from atlanta. >> reporter: this will be a heart breaking for a number of families across south georgia recovering from these. tornadoes seen here tearing through their neighborhoods in this one mobile home community alone, seven people were killed. brenda griffin got out alive. some of her neighbors didn't. >> and we covered each other, and we just layed there and we prayed. lord, please let it pass over. >> reporter: first responders had to free people under their own walls. jenny buller had to crawl out from under hers. >> i opened the door in my bedroom. the whole wall fell on me. i crawled out from under it. then our back door that we walk in to get into our house came by and hit me and knocked me down. where are the governor declared

call from the president who is sharing his condolences from the east room. >> tornadoes were vicious and powerful and strong. and they suffered greatly. >> reporter: adding insult to terrible injury the national weather service issued a particularly dangerous situation. tornado watch for the same areas and the rare warning is still up across parts of the southeast. millions need to stay alert. this same storm brought darkness and death to hattiesburg, mississippi. >> when you look you realize life is beyond that. you find out what's precious. >> reporter: this is the difficult moment when one woman learned that someone she loves had been killed. >> you have churches and businesses as well as homes destroyed on this street. four people killed. we learned two of those were relatives, a grandfather and grandson. here at the mcmorris property, the house decimated but they walked away with their lives.
