kimberly: the president says his executive order's are working out nicely, but hundreds of protesters at airports around the nation have a different opinion. wave of the tidal support and a small victory for those impacted by the executive order. plus, we are bracing for the cold to return to winter temperatures and a couple chances of snow. the news starts now. news at 11:00 am on your side. kimberly: thank you for joining us. i'm kimberly suiters. a federal judge has issued an emergency stay on part of president trump's executive order banning refugees and limiting immigration. the rule

entering the u.s. since the rule went into effect front, the decision amid growing protests about the hundreds of people detained at airports around the country. the ruling is temporary and it's unclear when those detained will be set free. no official reaction from the white house, but earlier today the president defended the order. >> we are totally prepared to work it out very nicely. >> i want to know what families are here. i want to know what families are impacted by this decision. and we want answers to questions. i want to know who is being detained. kimberly: the executive order bands all refugees from the u.s. for 120 days and syrian refugees indefinitely. it also keeps anyone from seven majority muslim countries from coming to the u.s. for 90 days. governor mcauliffe has ordered his attorney general to look at all legal avenues to help people impacted by the order.

mcauliffe's news conference was called. also, we want to take you to video, a photojournalist who got whoing video of a mother was finally reunited with her five-year-old son about 4 p.m. when we first met her. she is from iran, her son had been traveling with another family member. we saw her pleading with the governor to try to get him some help. he was detained for a number of hours. once she finally got him back, she did not want to talk, but we certainly know that he is now in good hands. she was waiting anxiously through the night. also, supporters have not been given access to talk to those who have been held and detained, but this just in -- the federal court in alexandria has issued an order granting the right to access, sing attorney should be able to get
