this morning on "world news now," the world reacts to the president's late night tweets. >> after reports the president laid knew australian prime minister on a phone call, he's now taking the issue to twitter. and also tweeting about iran after sending that country a warning earlier in the day. we have new details coming up. and demonstrators at uc berkeley overnight turning violent as protest seniors clash with police and supporters of an alt-right speaker scheduled for an event. that event canceled and campus locked down. we'll tell you what's behind the outrage. >> a bird's eye view of the super bowl halftime show as lady gaga rehearses for her big stunt. we took a chopper right over the stadium. she was apparently not having it. and here we go again, time for good old phil to

australia. tillerson been also have to handle deteriorating relations with mexico just five days after the mexican president canceled a visit to washington. >> but most pressing might be iran. the president has tweeted iran is rapidly taking over more and more of iraq even after the u.s. has squandered $3 trillion there. that followed a warning to iran, as well. abc's martha an raddatz lar more on that. >> reporter: the security adviser came to the white house podium unexpectedly, and took no questions, but his message to iran was blunt. >> as of today, we are officially putting iran on notice. >> reporter: general flynn's warning came after iran's test of yet another ballistic missile and other provocative actions including high speed approaches to u.s. warships. >> iran continues to threaten u.s. friends and allies in the region. >> reporter: while flynn blasted the obama administration for what he called an inadequate response to iran in the past, the white house did not

now, saying just that they are considering options and will take appropriate action. they didn't put a military option on the table but they didn't rule it out either. what mike flynn really did was let iran know there is a new sheriff in town and he may not be pulling a gun out but he's got one in his holster. martha raddatz. >> the president is also taking a hard line with australia, reportedly slamming the prime minister during a phone call, then taking aim again on twitter a few hours ago. word r according to the "washington post," he tore into the prime minister malcolm turnbull over a deal struck by the obama administration that would allow refugees to resettle the in u.s. the president accused turnbull of trying to export "the next boston bombers to the u.s." when asked to comment, turn bull was tight lipped. >> look, thanks for your inquiry but i'm not going to comment on

vote when the full senate considers the nomination. a scheduled speech by controversial breitbart news editor at uc berkeley abruptly canceled after protests are turned violent. hundreds demonstrated peacefully for hours and then some broke away throwing smoke bombs, setting a bonfire and breaking windows lashing out against milo yiannopoulos. he's an alt-right conservative and a vocal donald trump supporter who has been called a lightweight supremacist. no word on any serious injuries or arrests so far but kept authorities at berkeley on guard for several hours. 76 protest rds have been arrested at the dakota access pipeline. authorities say the demonstrators refused to leave the camp set up on private land. the company building the pipeline wants a judge to seal or redact sensitive documents. there are some concerns the information could be used by someone looking to daniel the pipeline. and negotiations are under way to end a hostage crisis at maximum security prison in delaware. that unfold

when inmates took four corrections department workers hostage, prompting a statewide prison lockdown. two of those hose tajs have since been released but two still being held. inmates told a local reporter they're concerned about the treatment and the leadership of the united states. the military is confirming civilians were killed during sunday's raid in yemen. u.s. central command is also investigating reports that children may have been among the casualties. navy seal william ryan owens was killed. central command says the possible civilian casualties may have been caught in an aerial gun fight battle. the president and his daughter ivanka travelled to delaware to honor william owens. the 36-year-old was a member of seal team six. his remains arrived at dover air force base. the illinois native enlisted 19 years ago. the chief special warfare operators earned three bronze stars for heroic services. he was

and ivanka accompanied her dad to delaware because the first lady is in new york. despite some speculation that melania trump mate into the move to dc, her staff says she intends to live at the white house after the school year ends. the first lady is showing signs of her larger role in the east wing hiring a chief of stap we're told who in charge of day to day operations of the first lady's office. so with all of that news going on, it's tough to remember that we're closing in on the super bowl. >> that's right. >> there is that. the patriots and falcons aren't the only ones getting ready for sunday's big event. >> gaga has been fine tuning her performance from high overhead yesterday. we got a glimpse of some work being done on the stage. >> okay. so that's the stage right there. >> uh-huh. >> the video was shot by other helicopter from our station ktrk. after awhile, they shut the stadium roof so our

this paramilitary force led by tim nailer foley is facing off against illegal drug cartels from mexico, a little more than a stone's throw from here. they are heavily armed, well organized and deeply committed. but there's just one problem with this border patrol. they aren't the border patrol. they're an unauthorized armed force called the abra, arizona border recon which we spent time with after president trump's election. critics say they're dangerous. >> they're not law enforcement. they don't have the authority to do immigration work. >> do you want this group gone? >> i would like that group not to be here. >> tony estrada is the long time sheriff in nogales, arizona, one of the nation's best known and at times dangerous border crossings. he shows us the steel fence already here in hopes ofscopying the border secure and he echoes the border patrol said it does not endorse or suprt

groups or organizations taking border security matters into their own hands. as it could have adverse personal and public safety consequences. foley, a 57-year-old former construction worker is the group's founder. he says his group is more effective than the border patrol here and areas like this where the border doesn't have much of a barrier. something he doesn't believe would make much difference anyway. >> clearly you can see where they just open up the barbed wire. could i squeeze through there right now. >> reporter: his men are a ragtag team of volunteers. he says he ground checks his volunteers, doesn't allow drinking and kicks out members if they seem overeager and aggressive. he shared this video which foley shows him and his men helping what think call a quitter, an undocumented in need of water and help which they say they gave him before turning him over

tailgating. but a group of former nfl cheerleaders are calling a time-out filing a proposed class action lawsuit claiming the league and its 26 teams conspired to suppress their wages by agreeing to pay female athletes below fair market value. the lead plaintiff a former san francisco 49ers cheerleader asked that we not use her name. she spoke exclusively to abc news. >> the cheerleading life looks quite glamorous. once they see the number attached to that, it's not what you would think at all. >> the nfl and its member teams have intentionally conspired together to thwart competition so that they could pay these women illegally. >> reporter: according to the lawsuit, nfl teams paid cheerleaders around $100 per game. stark contrast to the $6.4 billion a year the lawsuit says nfl players earn collectively just last year. in many cases they say they were not compensated at all for time

mandatory public appearances sue claims the league prohibits female athletes from discussing their wages with each other in a further effort to suppress wages. kaitlin yates was an oakland raiders cheerleader for five years. >> so whether he i was on the team, we would be paid $125 per game. and we would be paid that amount in one lump sum at the end of the season which was for ten home games. it would be $1250. minus fines. we would be fined for all sorts of things. sometimes if you're missing a certain number of practices you could be fined 40d for that. so that au comes out of your paycheck at the end. >> reporter: the lawsuit states even team mascots earnen between $25,000 and $65,000 per year and often receive benefits. >> i just want them to know their worth, to not be taken for granted. >> reporter: amy robach, abc news, new york. and an nfl spokesman told abc news neither he nor the
