the bey hive is buzzing in anticipation of two new siblings for little blue ivy carter. the full story ahead in "the skinny" on this thursday -- february 2nd, groundhog day. >> it is. >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." and we can say good morning to you, everybody, on this thursday morning. we're going to get started on the west coast because there's been a lot of the unrest overnight. violent protests on the uc berkeley campus that forced a cancellation of a speech by a controversial editor of breitbart news. >> a small group broke away and turned violent and then swarmed the campus, hurling smoke bombs breaking windows and starting fires. all in action to a scheduled speech by milo yiannopoulos who is a alt-right conservative and he'd tore at breitbart news. >> we're very happy that this fascist milo yiannopoulos was run off the campus by

we will not tolerate racism or sex crimes. he's a fascist and berkeley did not welcome him. >> so far there have been no arrests or major injuries and police say the protesters have been cleared from the campus for the most part, but some members of the crowd did turn on at least one trump supporter and pepper sprayed her. >> that's right. milo yiannopoulos responded on his facebook page saying one thing we know for sure, the left is the absolutely terrified of free speech and will do literally anything to shut it down. other increasingly stern rhetoric from the trump administration first about iran. the president tweeted last night that the iran is rapidly taking over more and more of iraq even after the u.s. squandered $3 trillion there. >> that followed a statement from national security advisor mike flynn who said the u.s. was officially putting iran on notice. didn't elaborate on that point but flynn's warning comes after recent iranian missile tests and other actions that are considered provocative by the administration.

being considered. the president is also coming down hard on australia, reportedly blasting the prime minister during a phone call, then doubling down on twitter overnight. according to "the washington post," the president tore into prime minister malcolm turnbull over a deal that would allow mostly muslim refugees to settle in the u.s. the poecht" reports that the president accused turn bull of trying to export "the next boston bombers to the united states." the president left no doubt about his position sending out a tweet late last night that said, do you believe it, the obama administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from australia. why? i will study this dumb deal. no doubt there will be a lot more about that a little bit later on today. a key member of the president's inner circle is under fire this morning. some democrats are urging the removal of chief strategist steve bannon from the national security council. the democrats are angry because all of this stems from bannon's own words and controversial view of

>> reporter: the white house pressed about president trump's chief strategist and his controversial views on islam. last year, steve bannon said this. >> it's pretty dark here in europe right now, but there is something actually much darker and that is islam. >> reporter: bannon the former publisher of that alt-right news site breitbart is now seen as one of the most powerful people in the white house. "usa today" reviewed dozens of hours of bannon on the radio unearthing comments like this. >> to be brutally frank, i mean, christianity is dying in europe anise lam is on the rise. let's talk about that. >> reporter: the white house trying to distance the president. >> steve bannon can be heard on recording saying islam is a dark religion. not a religion of peace. a religion of submission. does the president share his chief strategist's apparent beliefs on islam? >> i think the president has been very clear that his number one goal is not to target any one religion, but places and areas where we believe there is an issue. there is a big difference between

cecilia vega, abc news, the white house. >> and new overnight, whom land security secretary john kelley has revealed the timetable for the controversial border wall with mexico. general kelly joined texas governor greg abbott for a tour of the texas, mexico border and counselly tells fox news he wants that wall finished within two years. the secretary and governor abbott discussed border security and trade with mexico. kelly met with state and federal law enforcement agents. the widow of the pulse nightclub killer will remain in federal custody. a judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation of norah salmon before deciding what she can be set free. prosecutors say salmon knew her husband was watching an isis videos leading up to the attacking that left 49 people dead and 53 others injured. her lawyers insist she had no advance knowledge of that shooting. and engine trouble forcing this jumbo jet to make an emergency landing in one of the most remote parts of canada.
