some saying that the oval office should not be used as a prop for the president's daughter. and these images of president trump and japanese prime minister shinzo abe at his mar-a-lago resort in florida as they handled the news about north korea's missile launch on saturday and draw agfresh fire on social media. democrats have criticize this had as an open aired situation room. house minority leader nancy pelosi tweeted "there's no excuse for let aginternational crisis play out in front of a bunch of country club members like dinner theater." the department of homeland security says federal immigration officials arrested more than 600 people across at least 11 states last week alone. however, homeland security secretary john kelley called the effort routine under the obama administration, more than 400,000 immigrants living in the u.s. illegally were deported in 2012 alone. in 2015, more than 2,000 were arrested in one week. and now to the crisis in

a major dam that could let loose a flood of epic proportions on to nearby towns with new storms on the way, helicopters are dropping sacks of rocks into a hole in the dam's emergency spillway. they're also moving rocks to patch other spots and reinforce that spillway. >> the evacuation yords keeping nearly 200,000 people out of their homes and it remains in place, that order. california's governor is seeking serler disaster assistance. kayna whitworth has more on the nightmare at the dam. that started the alarm. water rushing over a giant, gaping hole. now the race to reroute the water causing bigger problems. the damage and erosion so severe emergency officials fear the worst. if the area doesn't hold, a giant wall of water could spill into the surrounding residential areas. just seven miles down from the dam, the city of oroville, this

swelling over its banks. if that spillway fails, a million more gallons of water every second would enter this river. nearly 200,000 people told to evacuate. the alerts coming in by phone and text. this oroville resident said he had five minutes to leave. >> her phone started going off, and we just immediately loaded up the kids and took off. >> yeah. >> reporter: dishes left on the table at this abandoned denny's. those fleeing stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for hours. gas stations overwhelmed. >> i'm scared because i have never been in anything like this before. >> reporter: motorists tweeting photos and videos of their ordeal through the night. >> i have been stuck in this spot for 20 minutes, and i'm not going nowhere. >> reporter: the problem all stemming from the oroville dam in northern california, now at record levels and in danger of spilling over after a series of storms. at 770 feet high, the dam is america's tallest. it releases water from lake oroville through a spillway. the problem started last tuesday

the spillway's concrete base, forcing engineers saturday to allow water over this wall into the adjacent emergency spillway. here are the dramatic images of the water going over the wall for the first time since the dam opened in 196, leading to that severe and dangerous erosion. right behind me, these are the giant bags they are filling up with rocks to drop into the hole, and when you look those bags are about four feet tall. lifting giant bags that they hope will stop the erosion. with that giant hole to take the pressure off the second emergency spillway. more than one olympic swimming pool of water rushing through every single second, and officials say, it's working, but this image shows how close the dam is to the town of oroville, which is a ghost town. many preparing to spend a second night at shelters, sleeping on cots and among those waiting to return home, 18-year-old april torlone. >> it was beyond crazy seeing

that yuba city changed in a matter of minutes. >> officials not lifting the orders in place for nearly 200,000 people despite the fact that the lake levels have actually fallen and there's no more water going over the emergency spillway. we have more rain in the forecast so this threat is far from over. kayna whitworth. in the wake of those emergency evacuations near the dam, disturbing revelations about dams like these nationwide. >> you 20% of dams in populated areas around the country lack an emergency plan. many were built decades ago when the surrounding areas were agricultural or recreational with few residents or development. >> scary stuff. >> residents of northern new england will have a lot of shoveling to do this morning. as many as 2 1/2 feet of know fell on some parts of maine where it stopped snowing a few hours ago. more snow is in the forecast
