last night is part of a case that highlights a much larger problem in fairfax. jonathan: northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg has the update from police. it's new for you at 4:00. jeff? jeff: well, jonathan, fairfax county police say that 17-year-old who reunited with her mother last night is one of nine people currently in custody in connection with the murder that fairfax police say took place about a month ago in springfield. and another suspect is expected to be in custody very soon. >> this is a culmination of over two months of detectives working feverishly to identify and arrest all parties involved in this case. jeff: more than two months ago police in montgomery county put out a missing person's report for 15-year-old damaris reyes rivas. now, after the discovery of her body this week in an industrial area of springfield, fairfax police have ten suspects connected to the murder. four adults and six juveniles. one of the suspects is 17-year-old iraheta

iraheta of alexandria after returning home to her mother after being missing for a month. >> she is in custody. we are looking at the extent of her involvement. jeff: then there is a case of 16-year-old calindreas of springfield who returned home with her 5-month-old son after being missing for a month. police say she is not connected to the murder of damaris reyes rivas but the child's father is acquainted with the suspects and may be linked to the killing. police say all the people involved are connected to one game. >> we don't name specific gangs because we don't want to publicize one other another. we don't want to give them credit or recognition. jeff: fairfax county police could not say what they believe the motive to be in this murder. they would not comment on what this investigation means for the overall state of gang problems happening in the d.c. region. we can expect more charges as soon as tomorrow. live in fairf

goldberg, abc7 news. jonathan: developing this afternoon, an emergency landing and brief ground stoppage at charlotte douglas international airport. this american airlines plane right here. look at the wing. this happened during take-off. it hit a deer. amy aubert in the abc7 satellite center with the chaos created by one deer. amy? amy: definite chaos on the runway this afternoon after a run-in with a deer. let's go back to the video to show you the extent of the damage we are talking about. damage to the wing of that plane. you can see the aftermath from the crews spraying the plane, which was reportedly smoking from the right wing. it all happened as the plane attempted to take off at the charlotte douglas international airport. none of the 44 passengers on board were hurt. back to you in the studio. alison: all right, amy. wow! thank you very much now. more turbulence in the trump presidency. the focus is turning back to the cabinet.

county. it's happening and the school system said they had to communicate with parents. the letter but sent home from schools across montgomery county today. it warns a scam involving children. in the last week schools in the county have gotten a half dozen calls from worried parents checking on their children. they say to call 911 but by all means do not wire money as the caller demands. >> we have heard that the parents receive a kidnapping scheme phone call. we want to be proactive and prepare the community. brad: but people out there are making the calls again. they are making them to this community.

but in this cases such as this one, people quietly remove the broken hose line and nozzle from the fuel tank and then drive away. >> it's property damage. the same as if you hit something and you drive off. kevin: he says repairs vary. some cost nothing to fix. while others can run hundreds of dollars. and that tab doesn't always sit well with customers. >> basically, i try to tell you that it is your responsibility. some say it's your fault. others just cuss you. pretty bad attitude. michelle: kevin joins us live now. how often does it happen? kevin: you know, the folks out here say it happens at least a few times a month. we should point out that the gas hoses are actually designed to snap right off the pump if tucked too hard to prevent further damage to the pump. as we learned today, some people drive away so quickly or at a bizarre angle and that is when the repairs get pricy.

alison: california is known for having high-speed chases but a speeding driver pulled over did not get a ticket. they got assistance instead. the officer pulled over a driver after he was traveling 110-mile-per-hour and then they saw his wife was in labor. the couple was traveling from the bay area to southern california for a doctor's visit. but the baby wouldn't wait. >> it was obvious that not only was she in labor but she was probably having baby on the side of the highway. >> they train us well and we are ready for it to happen. it helps we have done it before. alison: the baby was delivered by a firefighter on the side of the 5. look how cute! the mom and child were rushed to the hospital, later visited by the officers. the family is making arrangements to travel back home to the bay area. jonathan: that is so cool. alison: yeah. michelle: there is no way you could have given them a ticket. jonathan: i don't

26-year-old man shot and killed on chicago's west side. they are reviewing the facebook live video that may have caught some of it on camera. a young boy taken too soon at just 2 years old. police say lavonte white was shot dead in the back of a car on the west side. >> while you are enjoying a holiday, a 2-year-old boy was shot and killed. amy: a 26-year-old man who police say was the target of the shooting was also killed. >> the male victim, the older male victim in his 20's documented gang member but he was shot several times and he died as a result of the injuries. amy: chicago police confirm they are looking at a facebook live stream that appears to show the shooting and the aftermath. a woman and man are seen driving with a toddler visible at times in the backseat. shots ring out and that calls the woman to yell for help. the officia

michelle: remember this yesterday. a tractor trailer splitting the cab rolling down an embankment, the trailer continuing to the overpass in frederick? take a look at this. less than 24 hours later a car jumped the guardrail, went down an overpass on 359 in the pentagon parking lot. this happened in arlington. the driver was taken to the hospital. it's not quite clear how severe the injuries are. update now to a story that abc7 has been following for nearly three years. the man convicted in the murder of 3-year-old kanijah bibb after firing into a home in prince george's county in august of 2014 has been sentenced to 45 years in prison. she was shot after a fight broke out between wallace and a resident of a home in landover where she was visiting. jonathan: covering metro this everything. metro's 4000 series rail cars are taken off the rails and hitting the road. they are gone. sam sweeney shows us it's t
