this morning on "world news now," where does the attorney general go from here? >> after a growing chorus of both democrats and republicans jeff sessions has recused himself from any investigations involving the trump campaign including their communications with russia. but many are still questioning whether sessions knowingly lied during his confirmation hearing. the president defending him, calling it a witch hunt. >> a developing story overnight. what we're now finding out about mike pence and his use of a private e-mail account. for official business while governor of indiana. a new revelation that he was reportedly hacked and why his office is now saying this is nothing like hillary clinton's e-mail scandal. >> the newly released dashcam video showing police officers pulling an 18-year-old man out of his car, tasing him. but it's wt

attorney general jeff sessions stepping aside from any investigation into russian election meddling while insisting he did nothing wrong. >> removing himself under the pressure after it came to light he had two conversations with the russian ambassador to the u.s. president trump called this controversy a witch hunt. releasing the statement in sessions' defense. jeff sessions is an honest plan. he did not say anything wrong. he could have stated his response for accurately but it was clearly not intentional. this whole narrative is a way of saving face for democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win." >> in sworn statements though, sessions denied having any communications with russian officials. he now says he doesn't recall discussing the campaign. for details now from abc's pierre an thomas. >> reporter: the dramatic announcement in washington. attorney general jeff sessions stepping back from any investigation into russian interference in the election amid accusations he misled the senate about his own ficials.ations with russian >> i have now decided to recuse

myself from any existing or future investigations of any matter relating in any way to the campaigns for president of the united states. >> reporter: it comes down to this moment from the attorney general's senate confirmation hearing. sessions saying he had no contact with the russians during the campaign. >> if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the trump campaign communicated with the russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do? >> senator franken, i'm not aware of any of those activities. i have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and i didn't have -- did not have communications with the russians. >> reporter: but it turns out he did. "the washington post" first reporting sessions met with russian ambassador sergey kislyak twice in the following -- final months of the campaign first at a gathering of

/* in cleveland for the republican national convention and again, if on september 8th in sessions' senate office. >> we need to make america great again. >> reporter: sessions was one of trump's top advisers in the campaign, the first sitting senator to endorse him. his september meeting with the e election hacking, and just e one day after candidate trump said this about russian president vladimir putin. >> if he says great things about me, i'm going to say great things about him. he's been a leader. far more than our president has been a leader. >> reporter: so did that moment come up in sessions' meeting with the russian ambassador? sessions says he does not remember what, if anything, they discussed about the campaign. >> i don't recall, but most of these ambassadors are pretty gossipy, and they like to -- this was in the campaign season. but i don't recall any specific political discussions. >> reporter: sessions said he met with kislyak purely in his capacity as a member of the senate armed services committee and that the meeting during the gop convention was a brief encounter with other ambassadors present. >> let me be clear, i never had

or russian intermediaries about the trump campaign. and the idea that i was part of a, quote, continuing exchange of information during the campaign between trump surrogates and intermediaries for the russian government is totally false. >> reporter: but the attorney general acknowledged that he could have been more forthcoming at his confirmation hearing, saying he was, quote, taken aback by senator franken's question. >> in retrospect i should've slowed down, and said, but i did meet one russian official a couple of times and that would be the ambassador. >> the fbi still investigating russian interference in the election. still certainlying to see if anyone tied to trump had contact with russian intelligence. in the investigation of the russians will now be overseen by acting deputy attorney general dayne nan boente appointed by president obama. pierre thomas, abc news,

>> where's our distracting flag person behind us? >> i'm amazed. he is a professional. >> i have no idea what pierre said. all i was looking at was the flag the entire time. >> the trump flag. >> so there was a bipartisan call for sessions to recuse himself before his big announcement but a growing number of democrats are going a little bit farther demanding his resignation. they insist sessions had perjured himself and is not fit it be as attorney general. senate minority leader chuck schumer said sessions had weeks to tell lawmakers will about the meetings with the russian envoy but failed to come clean. >> there cannot be even the scintilla of doubt about the impartiality and fairness of the attorney general. >> the new democratic national committee chair tom perez also wants sessions to resign. he says nobody is bob the law. there's word of yet another meeting between the trump campaign and that same russian envoy. the white house confirmed the president's son-in-law and

with kislyak in december along with dmou ousted national security adviser michael flynn. the meeting taking place at trump tower around the same time the obama administration was deciding how to punish russia for interfering in the election. we're told they discussed the relationship between the two the countries. meanwhile, newly released video shows russian fighter jets buzzing a u.s. navy destroyer in the black sea last month. knave officials say the jets flew at unusually high speeds and very low altitudes coming dangerously close to the "uss porter. the pentagon blasting the flybys calling them unsafe and unprofessional. russia's defense ministries denies any incidents involving the porter. >> the vice president responding to news he used a personal e-mail account for sensitive matters as indiana's governor. information about the account which was also hacked first came out in june in the indianapolis star. pence was critical of

clinton's private e-mail server during the campaign. in a statement, the vice president's spokesperson called any comparisons absurd since pence wasn't dealing with federally classified information. and kentucky's republican senator rand paul stormed the house of representatives demanding to see a draft of the obamacare replacement bill. rand marched through the hauls looking for what he calls the secret room for the secret bill. he even brought along his own copy machine. he knocked on a lot of doors and asked to see the bill. here's part of that conversation. >> i'm part of the legislature. shouldn't i be part of the process? i was elected to represent my state and i'm not allowed to read the working product so i can comment on it? >> you figure it's just a bill sitting there on capitol hill. >> i was thinking of that same song. the old school sesame street or some type of kids song. a bill, a bill. >> schoolhouse rock. >> on capitol hill. >> rand's request was denied by th

quarterback colin kaepernick will be literally back on his feet. he made headlines last season for refusing to stand during the national anthem as a protest against police brutality and racial inequality. he is reportedly ending his protest and plans to stand for the anthem next season. grizzlies believes he and other fleets helped create positive social changes with their protest. is he expected to opt out of his contract with the niners and become a free agent. so we don't know where he'll stand but you will now stand with the rest of the folks standing. > he says he's standing with the community and still donating a lot of his money, what money he was getting, to his charities. so he said he wants to focus on that. from football to baseball, opening day still weeks away but spring training has already given us the catch of the season. it comes courtesy of a young prospect in the new york mets organization. >> check out luis geeaire me in the mets dugout as he catches a

we're back now with a call for justice from the parents of an 18-year-old man who is dead. >> yes, newly released dashcam video shows police pulling the teenager out of his car, tasing him and then kneeling on his neck. abc's steve osunsami has the latest. night. but they believe what happens next after he is pulled out of the truck is nothing but murder. >> i think they should be punished. >> i have never seen a cop car that says on the side, to hunt down and kill. it says to protect and serve. >> reporter: the police dashcam video is from 2015. 1-year-old nicolas dyksma is still feeling the shock from their stun guns. and now the deputies are on top of him. the part that's most difficult to watch is when one of the deputies keeps leaning his knee onto their son's neck and turns him around and does it again. a state autopsy says it's one of the reasons he later died. from compression of the neck and torso. >> he still up? >> turn him on his side. >> hey. nicholas, wake up. >> he hadn't committed a crime, and they killed him. i got a problem with that. >> reporter: the family is now suing saying the police violated their son's civil rights and
