firefighters blaming the popular yet potentially dangerous device. and magic mishap. famous illusionist criss angel rushed to the hospital -- the dangerous stunt gone terribly wrong. zblmpkts and good evening. thank you for joining us on a saturday night. i'm rebecca jarvis in for tom llamas. we begin with the security breach at the white house. the first-known breach since president trump took office. an intruder carrying a backpack climbing the fence just before midnight. arrested on the south ground near the entrance to the residence. president trump inside the white house at the time. today, praising the secret service for their quick work. the breach under investigation as authorities reveal more about what the intruder was allegedly carrying. >> reporter: tonight, an alleged

the incident happened just before midnight friday night when a fence jumper scaled the fence approximately six feet tall. the indiatruder has to make it r the top. he had to make it over the perimeter fence. meant to keep people out. he then made his way on the south side of the grounds. couple a hundreds of yards from the east wing where the first family residence is located. the fence jumper was stopped and questioned. saying he was a friend of the president and said he had an appointment. this video shows the lights of the south lawn suddenly turning on. the secret service arrested the 26-year-old without incident. his backpack was tested for hazardous material but nothing was found. authorities say he was carrying mace. today, the president trump thanking the secret service. >> the secret service did a fantastic job, it was a troubled person. it was a very sad, but

>> reporter: tonight, it's under investigation. >> this is supposed to be one of the safest places in the world, how can people keep jumping over this fence? >> because this fence is short enough, literally anybody enough, literally anybody who's able-bodied get over the fence. >> reporter: this. >> reporter: this intruder scaled the fence in 2015. as the first family was eating their holiday meal the secret service surrounded him and took him into custody. and this one was caught just after he got all the way inside. tonight the suspect is in federal custody. there are plans to boost security here by raising the fence. that work is slated to be completed next year. rebecca. >> gloria, thank you. late developments in the shake-up in the justice department. one of the top prosecutors defiantly refusing the attorney general's request to resign. now, saying he's been fired. one of dozen prosecutors caught in the purge of president

to focus his energy on the republican health care bill. here's abc's david wright. >> reporter: at the trump's justice department. an abrupt changing of the guard. overnight, attorney general jeff sessions asked for the resignations of all 46 u.s. attorneys left over from the obama administration. "i didn't resign. moments ago i was fired. tweeted, preet bharara, one of the most prominent attorneys. last november at trump tower, he told reporters that the president-elect personally asked him to stay. >> we had a good meeting. i agreed to stay on. >> reporter: not anymore. today, the attorney general spared only two of the obama-era prosecutors in virginia and maryland. on thursday, trump loyalist sean hannity called for a purge. >> for weeks we have been warning you about the deep state

travelers. >> did you hear anything about an accident on the bridge on lehigh? >> affirmative. we have police on the way. >> reporter: icy conditions triggering this 25-car pileup in allentown, pennsylvania, no injuries there. >> i spun this way and then a car hit me from the side and i completely turned all the way around. >> reporter: a tow truck turning over this fire truck that crashed in new hampshire. overnight in boston, an alaska airlines plane smashing into a de-icing truck at logan international airport. the bucket portion of the de-icer clipping one of the plane wings, and firefighters rescuing the trapped worker. >> i hear people yelling from the back, they were yelling stop the plane stop the plane! >> reporter: in tennessee, a taste of what's to come for millions across the northeast. >> that taste of what's to come. right to rob with the forecast. rob? >> hi, rebecca.

the late-season cold snap is setting the stage for a big snow event. now, blizzard watches for coastal new york, including boston and new england. but first a quick-moving mid-south snowmaker. the big event will come from that northwest storm that's going to dive south for minneapolis for the monday-morning rush. explosive coasta aal energy for monday and tuesday. potential potentially crippling event. >> it continues, rob. thank you. now to the deadly house fire in pennsylvania, triggering a new debate over the potential dangers of hoverboards. a 3-year-old girl killed when her house was consumed by flames.

for igniting the fire. abc's eva pilgrim on the investigation. >> we're getting rapid calls and reports of kids trapped on the third floor. >> reporter: tonight, this devastating fire in harrisburg, pennsylvania, killing one child, two others in critical condition. authorities say a hoverboard ignited the flames. >> all because of a hoverboard. >> reporter: this facebook video shows the moment firefighters arrived, giant flames consuming this row home. a father, clearly panicked, his three children still inside. >> we need a ladder on the second floor. we got people on the roof. >> reporter: one girl jumped to safety. two others pulled out by firefighters. this just the latest hoverboard hazard making headlines. this show the moment a hoverboard's batteries exploded. huge flames ripping through the home north of chicago. >> a good likelihood we're going to lose both of our children today.

frightening scenes like this, others igniting on sidewalks. the hoverboard burning right near a baby stroller at this washington state mall. >> for no apparent reason, it just exploded. >> reporter: tonight, nearly a half a million hoverboards made by ten companies under a recall. the two other girls are in critical condition tonight. rebecca. >> eva, thank you. and overseas tonight, the deadly twin bomb attacks in syria, explosions ripping through the center of damascus, at least 40 people killed. 120 wounded. the attacks targeting holy sites. here's jennifer eccleston. >> reporter: the bloody debris from the blasts litter the streets of damascus. buses riddled with shrapnel, a mangled wheelchair among the wreckage. the attackers striking shiite tourists from iraq, visiting a holy site. at least 40 are dead. more than 100 injured. this iraqi lucky to be alive. criss angel rushed to the hospital after collapsing during the middle of an upside-down trick. not the first time a magic trick has backfired. here's abc's marci gonzalez. >> reporter: world-famous magician criss angel was performing the harrowing escape stunt seen here, hanging upside-down in a straitjacket. >> i'm trying to get my shoulder out of my socket right now. >> reporter: when witnesses saying he passed out before being rushed to the hospital in the middle of last night's las vegas show. >> they lowered him down to the stage and he wasn't moving at all. >> reporter: angel has performed the stunt countless times, demonstrating it here to oprah. >> a lot of what i do, oprah, is completely real and some of it's an illusion. this is completely real. >> reporter: close calls can be part of the profession. in 2015, angel himself scrambled to save fellow magician, spencer horsman, from a water torture tank. angel insisting it wasn't part of the act. >> he was going limp.
