payback. plunging temperatures and a bitter wind chill, harsh reminders winter is not on yet. and we are getting the first wave of alerts ahead of possible winter storms. meteorologist josh knight has the winter weather alert. josh: that's right, a winter storm watch for the majority of the area. it's almost like we are getting payback from mother nature. february coming out dropping into the mid 20's tonight and feeling colder with the breeze. this winter storm watch is for the majority of the viewing area. everybody in blue. the only parts not part of this are southern maryland and spotsylvania and king george. otherwise, everybody looking at this winter storm watch come in effect monday evening until tuesday afternoon.

the national weather service is calling for five inches or more possible. the windchill tonight is the big talker, in the teens in most places. it warms up nicely through the day sunday, back into the mid 40's. the snow maker right now over the pacific northwest. i will track that and when it moves in and what i'm expecting tuesday morning in about 10 minutes. kimberly: the dip in temperatures is adding to the anxiety for the cherry blossoms. right now they are in a critical stage come just a week until peak bloom. anna-lysa gayle is live among the tidal basin. losing all of the blossoms at this point would be such a shame, anna-lysa. anna-lysa: it would be, kimberly . this is such a big part of our tradition in d.c., and the people i talked with today are

house fence did not get any prison time. he jumped the fence draped in a flag and carrying a notebook on thanksgiving day 2015. he received three years probation. a veteran who scaled defense with a folding knife made it all the way to the east room. he served a prison sentence. omar gonzalez was sentenced to 17 months in 2014, prompting a wave of changes to the white house security. white house politics, president trump has fired in new york federal prosecutor known for taking on wall street and government corruption. preet bharara says he was fired after refusing to step down. jeff sessions requested the u.s. attorney 46 still left over from the obama administration. that is fairly common in transition. the unusual thing is after the election, mr. trump assured preet bharara he would stay in his post.

kimberly: back to the breaking news, the house fire in riverdale. scott taylor is on the scene. do we know if anybody was home at the time the fire broke out? scott: we just got here, kimberly. let me show you the scene. we do not know if anybody was in the home. we do know in riverdale this house has been here quite some time. if you are familiar with the area, it is across from the old riverdale mansion visitor center. ladderow, we have two trucks on both sides of the house. we are getting hit by the water from the water cannons. they are trying to ffire that ho the

at enacted in senior allentown road on the beltway when a suspected drunk driver slammed into the fire truck. four firefighters were taken to the hospital and released. a bystander was injured. time now to check back with josh. i know that you are watching this storm potential. is there a chance it will miss us? josh: in d.c., there is always that chance it would be a bust. but the models are getting more consistent and i think this storm will come together. apparently the national weather service is on the same page. this is the winter storm watch for most of the area, d.c. metro all the way over to i-81 and further west. a lot of questions with this. where will we see the rain/snow line, where will the sharp cut off be? a lot still to be determined. tomorrow morning, sunri

keep in mind that is close to 7:25 tomorrow as we spring forward tonight. 25 d.c. a cold start, but not as breezy. through the day, mostly sunny skies, 44 the high with more sunshine and less of a breeze, an improvement from today. monday, another day where we top out near 44. increasing cloud through the day and the wintry mix showing up late into the evening, after sunset. what we do know heading into monday night, the coastal storm will develop. that is looking pretty good. the heaviest of the precipitation will be monday night heading into tuesday, but there will be a sharp cut off with the snowfall. we don't know where the system will track exactly, the location of the rain/snow line, and who will be under the bullseye. where the cold weather comes together along with a moisture.

low pressure is working its way over the pacific northwest. tomorrow and monday it moves towards the coast, transferring its energy to this wave of low pressure. exactly where it goes is the biggest player for us, whether we get rain, snow, a mixture, and how much. atot of the models have about 50, 100 miles off the coast, but there is a big difference when that comes to the rain or snow. more inland, we get more rain. further out to sea, more snow. most likely we will have a wintry mix along the i-95 corridor. further inland, more rain and warm air. further out to sea, a lot more snow and colder air. that is what we are hoping to figure out tomorrow. one model representation, the pink line hanging around i-89
