way out. the storm did all kinds of things. number one, much more moisture. we knew it would bring warmth northin and sleet in but of washington had more of an ice storm than anything else. reciprocation moving out and in its backlash there will be snow showers. no significant accumulation. there are millions of kids in new york and along the coast that are disappointed that we did not get much snow because the storm system brought in so much warm air from the atlantic ocean they had to go inland to find the heavy snow. over parts of pennsylvania and new york state, they are getting crushed with heavy snow. it is just the coastal areas. this often happens in march because the atmosphere is different in march than january and february. for a snow lovers point of interest, if t

offshore we would all be in a big dig out right now. and weather is the problem what is going to happen with roads and re-freezing, josh knight is on the american legion bridge. any ice there? josh: things are looking pretty good for us as we drive around all of our major roads, even a lot of the side roads are looking good. we are merging back onto 495 about to cross over the american legion bridge. maybe you saw that car wiggle a little bit. there is still some snow and a little bit of ice in some places , especially in turn lanes but even across the bridge and all of the interstates, things up and looking really good as we have gotten closer to the afternoon. you are dealing with the road spray but not really dealing with any ice in these areas. what we are go

all of this water still sitting around, likely dealing with some re-freezing and ice later on. our temperature as we have been working our way across the area, is 35 degrees, so at least getting a little bit of melting done. i will leave you with that shot of the roadway but it this point i will send it to john gonzalez. josh, we measured in frederick county about four inches of snow give or take, not the most we could have gotten but it appears frederick did bear the brunt when it comes to this storm in the d.c. area. it was not just the snow, it was the freezing rain and sleet that fell for over 10 hours. gthis put things into perspecte just a bit, a parking lot off of buckeystown road, that snow mound shows just how much snow has been plowed today. a lot of folks decided to just stay at home.

9:00 last night without much of a break. right now the main thoroughfares are just wet. john gonzalez, abc seven news. jummy: the storm had a crippling effect on travel up and down the northeast corridor. autria: this morning, reagan national turning into a ghost town. brianne carter is live from the airport this noon. we hear you have some good news to bring us. me,nne: take a look behind we are seeing a number of folks filing into the airport and they are excited because they are getting on the plane. just within the last half hour we saw a couple we met here yesterday trying to get to dallas and home to arkansas. get on an earlier flight and were concerned their flight today might be canceled, but we just saw them. their

good news. that is what we are starting to see this afternoon, a number of flights showing back up on the board. we had a number of delays as opposed to the cancellations we were seeing at 5:00 to 7:00 this morning. people knew yesterday that the flight was canceled or pushed back until today so they did not have to come here and wait, that is the good news. we are starting to get arriving flights at reagan national airport. they are starting to get arriving flights from other cities. they have moved the planes to other areas so they would not have to deice them all and we have seen them show up in the last 15 minutes or so.

dulles airport, runways have been open and operational. it all depends on what is happening with the airlines at this hour. you want toraveling check about the flight before you head to the airport. autria: with snow on the ground and roads, many of you got the day off of work or were allowed to work from home. jummy: some are using that free snow,o enjoy the show, -- like our kidd o'shea. : we saw those big piles of snow in frederick, a different story here. they cleared this walkway in front of our building early this morning. they were out with the snowblowers and put the salt down as well. you can see it has pretty much stayed nice and clean. a different story on the street, although they are not in terrible condition. herew a guy walking over with three pizzas that he just picked up and walked into our building. ,eople are starting to show up like they have a late start. it is not like a normal workday,

>> you are watching abc 7 news at noon, on your side. jummy: the man with all the answers is here, doug hill -- that is you. if you are watching the past couple of days we have been telling you how important this rain-snow line will be and every computer model kept inching it further and further to the west. that trend continued so we got a lot of warm air mixed in which is why we had more rain, sleet, and freezing rain than snow. jummy: when are we getting out of the woods? doug: thursday and friday will be nice. no, we will do better. here are the alerts in progress. read area through new england, that is still a blizzard warning. the blizzard warning israel and the blizzard is behaving -- is

behaving as expected. the big concern, not a couple snow showers we will have this afternoon, at the big concern will be temperatures tonight and wind chills tomorrow morning. wind chills tomorrow morning will be in the single digits, temperatures in the 20's. i expect many areas have a rougher commute tomorrow because of the icy patches. we have wind advisories around 2:00 or so this afternoon. i also want to remind you, your photos of the storm, ice, and snow, send them to us and we will share them online and on their. a muchas ice, this was bigger story than anybody thought. a quarter inch of ice reported at bwi thurgood marshall. temperatures will warm enough that we will start to see that melt off.

leesburg, damascus a little over four. satellite radar shows the circulation of the storm, and in the bitter backlash we are going to see a few snow showers. as we go through the rest of the afternoon and evening we will get well above freezing but that which melts during the day will refreeze overnight, in the low 20's by the morning. we may see a flows -- a snow shower or flurry with a disturbance. the big story is the cold overnight lows and then a bit of a warm-up as we head to the rest of the week. being,s going to wind up i bet you, below average in a colder month than february. autria: that even get out because february was so warm. doug: i hear it is going to be warm in june. autria: much of the dmv saw a mix of snow, sleet, and

many loudoun county residents are digging out. jummy: horace holmes has been in leesburg all morning long and he joins us live. horace: it is cold. the sign on the building says "snow coming." it was not what we expected in leesburg. several inches came down in a short period of time, but the good news is it has stopped and the wonderful news is that the snow removal crews have done an excellent job getting the snow removed after -- off the main highways and byways. day, get pie now. they thought at mom's apple pie y would be a bus to because of the storm. let's take a look. you have got customers, you did not expect it. >>

you can see the roads are clear. we told you about the highways, they are all clear and most of those areas. , whatf the plow trucks they have left on the side but if you are leaving your house at this time there will not be a problem. a lot of people are not on the roads. if you do need to be out, the roads are clear, surface streets and highways at least in this part of the area. that is what is happening live for mobile trak 7, i am suzanne -- i am sam sweeney. suzanne kennedy is standing by. suzanne: we had a few flurries moving through the area a few minutes ago, very odd given that this was just a sleet event. it is down to the pavement here and it is damp

as we get into the colder temperatures, that is going to freeze up and make for some tricky driving later in the day and also on into tomorrow. that is something we have to be watchful for in the coming hours. d.c. public school students ended up heading back to class, and we have pictures of some of the shoveling and preparing that was going on to make sure that the sidewalks in front areas of the school were safe for the students to get to. stopping by lafayette elementary school was the mayor and she has been checking throughout the district to see the status of the roads. 200 plow trucks out overnight into today. she says everything is looking pretty good. >> we have about 200 pieces of equipment out. are all passable, many down to blacktop. our residential's are looking pretty well to. now is the

jummy: this morning and afternoon, winter is stretching all the way to the beach. autria: following the storm to ocean city. >> we have the boardwalk and beach to ourselves, it is not been that bad of a morning compared to what we have expected. the rain stopped a little before 7:00 this morning and you can see the waves and the surf, that is the rough part out here. we are looking at three things, beac erosion, minor flooding, and gusty wind. expected some gusty winds up to 55 miles per hour. we have not seen any of those things we were monitoring for but we will you know if that changes. requestinghave been that you send in any snow pictures that you want to share so let's go to melanie with a look at some of the photos. >>

was march 25.013 we had the big storm of the century -- no, it wasn't. still it was a pretty good snow. last february 12 was the one, so who knows? more snow showers in the forecast tomorrow. anything measurable? not sure about that. , thean watch the animation moisture will feed right in and along the coast. mostly rain and high winds and farther west it is all snow. we are tracking snow showers for the next couple of hours. we have temperatures now well above freezing in the metro so we will see melting. tonight, temperatures will plummet into the low 20's so there will be a serious re-freeze. potentially late tonight into tomorrow morning sun dangerous icy spots throughout the viewing area.
