large electronic devices from overseas flights was apparently prompted by a security threat. u.s. intelligence officials obtained information that isis was working to smuggle explosive laden electronics on to flights headed to the u.s. abc's david kerley has more. >> reporter: the new emergency security ban is being put in place by airlines in the middle east and north africa. all passengers heading directly to the u.s. from eight countries, will be forcinged to check electronic devices other than their phones. u.s. officials telling abc news, that new intelligence, deemed substantial and credible, drove the action. >> terrorist groups continue to target commercial aviation and are aggressive in pursuing innovative method to undertake their attacks to include smuggling explosive device and consumer objects. >> reporter: flights from the countries many allies, gulf states, saudi arabia, egypt are covered by emergency order from homeland security.
