stronger is seeking answers... and not giving up, until you find them. because we don't just want your kids to grow up. we want them to grow up stronger. announcer: now, abc 7 news at noon -- on your side. jummy: we begin with gloomy weather, fog blanketing parts of d.c. earlier today, you could barely make out the kennedy center. the dense fog warning put in place all morning long is now lifted as we take a live look outside at how it looks at the white house. the clouds remain. doug hill is here with a look at the forecast. doug: a warm front moving through the area has locked us in

ground level. this is from congressional country club in bethesda, a sea of gray. through the morning, the fog started to lift and then moved quickly. a flash of sunshine trying to break through now and again, 57 degrees. we want to share with you one of the prettiest pictures we have seen from the cherry blossoms. it worked out pretty well. the number not as high as recent years, but for folks down there, it was absolutely gorgeous. we invite you to share your images with us. we are going to wait for this warm front to move through the area. we have seen a spike in temperatures. ray. little still 60's for the metro area. we will see clearing from the west and the south. the result will be partly sunny skies. we think most areas will make it into the lower 70's. we will keep our eyes open for

evening and tonight. we will tell you what to expect for the rest of the week, the weekend, and the next 10 days when we join you in about 10 minutes. jummy: overnight in the district, a large rescue operation in a race to save up a person reported in the potomac. as of right now, the search has turned up nothing. sam sweeney is there with new information. sam: at this hour, the search has been called off. earlier this morning, it was a much different scene. take a look at the video. rescuers working the water on .he side they brought canines in. eventually, they sent divers down. here is what we know right now. just after 11:30 a.m., a man was on his balcony. he heard screaming. he looked and saw

he went to get his phone. by the time he got back outside, he set a person was in the water and all he could see was their head. he called 911. by the time he got out here, there was no sign of the person. he said there was a water spot on the dock. foruers came and searched hours, but turned up nothing. by 3:00 this morning, they called off the rescue. another incident happened saturday when rescuers were called by a fisherman who said he had found a body. they pronounced the person dead. we are working to get new details on both of these cases and a soon as we have them, we will pass them along. sam sweeney, back to you in the studio. now, all signsng pointing to arson after an apartment complex in montgomery county goes up in flames. the building has been turned into a crime

>> fire investigators in montgomery county say this is very suspicious. in fact, they believe someone threw something through that window right there. you can see the window boarded up. it is unclear if the person who lives there was targeted, but we know latter rescues had to perform here. five people were trapped, all rescued from the second floor. fire investigators now believe this was arson. this is the millwood manor apartments, $20,000 worth of damage so far. several people without homes today. fortunately, no serious injuries. we talked to one woman who was among the trapped. she knew something wasn't right. a they are telling us it's crime scene. i know we heard something. we did. we heard something. >> a bomb squad and fire investigators spent several hours trying to sift through all of this and

what happened. they also talked to a person of interest, we understand, who was hospitalized. they want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything out of the ordinary here. this fire started at 415 in the afternoon -- 4:15 p.m. jummy: new this afternoon, a high school bombing plot foiled in frederick county. officials were notified by a concerned parent of a potential threat of violence last thursday. it led to the arrest of savarrio.d nicole safari bomb making materials and guns were found inside her home. right now, she is undergoing a mental evaluation. you don't see this every day. a naked man stopping traffic in the district. this happened this morning as the commute was ending. he was

the mississippi valley and ohio valley. the wild night of storms included this in oklahoma. storm chasers capturing video of this tornado. another twister touched down just a few miles away. it's the season, unfortunately. a strong cold front tomorrow and another threat of severe weather is probably south of the metro area. but this time of year, it's going to happen. we are getting rid of the fog and trying to warm things up around here. let's take a look at the chesapeake a right now. -- bay right now. only 48 degrees. winds are coming across the cold water of the bay. if you come inland of it, temperatures are somewhat warmer. in march is 60h degrees. we are looking this afternoon to make a big recovery.

the tar heels were the last two punch their ticket to phoenix. a kentucky star nailed a game-tying three with seven carolinaeft, but wasted no time. the shot of his life would be the game-winner for the tie heels -- tar heels. for the first time in school history, south carolina is headed to the final four. they knocked out the number four seed, florida, 77-70. they will take on number one seeded gonzaga with a trip to the national game on the line. final four has some new faces, by the way. both south carolina and gonzaga's first trip to the big dance. oregon has not been to the final four since 1939. for north carolina, it's their second year in a row. coming up next
