vigil in a moment. we begin tonight in montgomery county. a wheaton woman says it does not make sense. she came home to find a derogatory word on her front door. as police tried to figure out who can be behind it, ryan tells us how the family is coping with someone else's hate. ryan: the ice cream truck is making its rounds and kids are shooting hoops, but in this quiet neighborhood on mcmahon road, thomas thompson is trying to comprehend why his home was targeted with hate-based vandalism. >> this is a really diverse community. for us to be singled out, it doesn't make sense to me. ryan: his fiancee was heading home to the hospital thursday afternoon when she found a derogatory word across the front door. >> somebody wrote somedy

joined together in prayer. we are taken inside the vigil after a vandalism against a jewish community center and a church in the area. reporter: it is holy week in united church of christ. those who came to this special service were not here to celebrate easter, they came has united show of force in the face of darkness. >> tonight, we are here for the people in those communities. faither: am myriad of communities filled the sanctuary for a vigil after this church and the nearby jewish community center was spray-painted with hurtful messages of hate. this is also passover, a time of those of the jewish faith celebrate freedom of oppression. >> we are looking at a time where we can look behind is in history. it will always be difficult times and we need to be those of the jewish faith celebrate freedom ofresilient. it is a wake-up call that the fight has to kee

that we remain witnesses and understand what happened. in doing so, we recognize that hatred and move through that. we can begin to move towards it. reporter: the love was felt when all of those in attendance ended the vigil by encircling the church with candles held high. we want to let you know police did make an arrest in connection with that vandalism at the jcc and church. dylan mahone faces hate crime charges. investigators say they found spray paint and anti-somatic posters inside his home. -security around the world as millions get ready to celebrate easter. it comes after attacks on churches, including one in egypt last week. security is especially tight in rome with law-enforcement and bomb sniffing dogs deployed as thousands celebrate the holy week.

>> it was a fireworks finale for this year's cherry blossom festival. mother nature putting up a light show of her own but the rain and thunderstorms moving out of here completely. veronicadal basin, johnson takes us through the day. veronica: it has been a busy day. the national cherry blossom festival. activities just wrapped up with these spectacular fireworks on the southwest waterfront. how did everybody like the fireworks? >> they

they went on for longer than i thought they would. veronica: the festival is considered the nation's greatest they went on for longer than i thought they would. springtime celebration, included live music on the stage. i had the opportunity to emcee this year. there was space painting and bubble making for the kids, and large crowds dancing the day away. springtime best at the start, it sure ended great. >> got a little bit of every season for the pastwhile the wee month and ending with summer. it felt like the fourth of july. temperatures getting into the 50's and 60's tonight. very comfortable overnight and into tomorrow morning. a stray shower but most of us are dry. we will start up drive for easter sunday as well. tomorrow morning, some clouds md ending with summer. but it will be a sunny start to the day. we don't have to worry about the rainnt

mid-80's and it should be dry. for the end of the game, you start to run into a little of that spotty rain. by the time we get to monday, 69 at noon. early cloud cover and more sunshine later on. we have temperatures that get back closer to normal by the time we get to tuesday and wednesday. back into the 60's. the most rainy day will be wednesday and another chance of rain on sunday. saturday is looking like a nicer day. kimberly: great news for easter sunday. coming up next, the capitals and maple leafs just finished a marathon at the verizon center. alex ovechkin did his part. was it enough for the win? we will let you know, when we come back.
