announcer: you're watching "abc7 news at 5:00". on your side. nancy: police say a mcdonald's employee recognized steve stephens when he pulled through a drive-through this morning. he called 911. once the police found him the man accused of killing a stranger and then posting the video on facebook pulled out a gun and killed himself. tom boscoe from our sister station in erie tonight. it had to be terrifying for the employee. what did the employee do? >> it's amazing. they tried to delay steve stephens in the drive-through. he ordered a 20-piece chicken nugget and fries. the employee told him the fries would be delayed trying

to buy some time. the employees inside the mcdonald's called the police. the police caught up with him. it's not clear at what point stephens decided he needed to pull away from the mcdonald's but they caught up with him on buffalo road in erie, pennsylvania. what happened next the police did a pick maneuver. they bumped the car in a control way to spin off the road. he did and he crashed his car on the side of the road. as he said, before they could get to him, he pulled the gun out and turned it on himself. right now the police are saying that the public's help was invaluable in the situation. the pennsylvania state police saying thank god for the public. saying it is nice when the public realizes that the police and the public are all in this together. where has he been for three days? did he have help? how did he go for the three days wit

are you okay? larry: take a look at this. a fishing crew that are known for reeling in big catches hooked something different easter sunday. they rescued a man and a woman who got stranded when the kayak started taking on water. they used a life ring to pull them to safety. wow! nancy: a desperate search tonight for two missing hikers who were swept away in a grand canyon creek. the two are from the family that started a clothing company. we have details now. reporter: the search is on for jackson and his step-grandmother. >> this particular kind of incident is rare. >> they were hiking at the grand canyon with family and friends on saturday when the family group says as they were crossing the creek, four people including jackson's mother fell in
