breaking news this morning. on "world news now" -- after more than a decade, arkansas's executioner goes back to work overnight. the state plans to move forward with the execution of more men before the end of the month. >> could republicans be gearing up for a battle over health care. president trump is optimistic. after the last bill stalled out what may be different this time around. >> new this half-hour, police body-cam video of an officer ambushed. >> you'll see the suspect trying to lead the officer the wrong way before turning and pulling out his weapon. what happened next? >> and, the truth is apparently still out there. the big news, we are hearing this morning, about "the x-files" and a return of america's most loved fbi agent,

we'll have the complete report. filed for your review ahead in "the skinny." it is friday, april 21st. >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning to you. on this friday. start this half-hour with the breaking news, coming out of the south, specifically arkansas. the state carrying out its first execution in more than a decade. actually, ignored a lot of criticism for its plan to carry out several executions by the end of the month all. the convicted killer was executed at 11:56, four minutes before his death warrant was due to expire. the supreme court justices allowed the state to use a lethal injection drug, barred by a lower court ruling. >> arkansas face aid string of court challenges over its plans to execute eight men, over the course of 11 days. the time span driven by the april 30th expiration date on one of the drugs used in t

lethal cocktail. he was 51 years old, on death row more than 20 years for the murder of his neighbor. but he maintained his innocence till the end. >> and also this morning, a grateful tennessee parents will be reunited later today with their 15-year-old daughter, who has been rescued after more than a month away from home. >> the girl's 50-year-old former teacher accused of kidnapping her in mid march. two days later surveillance cameras captured images of the fair at a wal-mart in oklahoma city. that was the last time they were seen until yesterday. >> police actually tracked the pair down, living in a cabin, in a remote area of northern california. sident who recognized them and called police. >> he kidnapped a girl. i don't know the whole situation. maybe she went willingly or something, but it was, like an amber alert. >> investigators say they found two loaded handguns in the

the former teacher is now in custody. >> police say the girl was physically unharmed, and on her way home. abc's kenya wentworth has more. >> reporter: the agonizing nationwide manhunt for the teacher and his student is finally over. police say, they zeroed in on 50-year-old tad cummins acting on a tip from a man who spotted his vehicle in a cabin in remote northern california. 2,000 miles from where the two initially disappeared. police apprehending cummins after staking out the location for hours. saying 15-year-old elizabeth thomas soon will be reuniting with her family. >> all we know is she is parentally healthy and unharmed. knowing that our main concern how is she emotionally and mentally. the two disappearing six weeks ago. cummins suspended from his school after being investigated for an inappropriate relationship with the high school freshman. >> in an exclusive interview with abc news, cummin' wave who

has filed for divorce, told us, that tad had been helping elizabeth. and the teen had been spending time at their home, prior to her disappearance. >> i think he was mentoring her and, maybe just one bad decision, started him off on a path he didn't mean to go on. >> the pair spotted just two days after their disappearance, hundreds of miles from home in oklahoma city. surveillance cameras catching them in wal-mart. the last confirmed sighting of the two. >> it only takes one tip. this its yet another example of the value of the public helping us to rescue a kidnapping victim. >> reporter: cummins faces state and federal charges including taking a minor across state lines to have sex. that carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years if convicted. kenya wentworth, abc news, willows, california. >> police in paris searching the city and one suburb for potential acompolices in the attack on the champs-elysees. >> a gunman opened fire taking aim at a police vehicle, killing

one officer injuring three other people. he then took off running until security forces tracked him down and then shot and killed him. president trump back here in the u.s. condemning the attack, isis claiming responsibility. >> it is a very, very terrible thing that is going on in the world today. but it looks like another terrorist attack and -- and -- what can you say? just it never ends. we have to be strong and we have to be vigilant. >> police have identified the gunman saying, he has a criminal record. >> and president trump is striking an optimistic tone about the latest push to repeal and replace obamacare. >> but the republican lawmakers scrambling to reach a deal not nearly as confident they will get enough votes before the president's first 100 days are up. abc's john haskel joins us with the latest. good morning, josh. >> good morning, guys. >> the latest on health care continues to be weather factions within the republican party can

on thursday it sure seemed president trump thinks they can. >> one month after the gop pulled their health care bill, new signs that an amendment to the bill could please conservative and moderate republicans. >> we have a good chance of getting it soon. >> reporter: the proposal would restore obama's requirement that insures prescription drugs, maternity care and mental health services. in an effort to please conservatives, states would be allowed to obtain waivers to abandon the requirement. obamacare, prevents charging sick higher premiums than healthy consumers. additional waivers would allow states to opt out of this. >> we'll see what happens. but this its a great bill. a great plan. and, this will be great health care. it's -- evolving. >> reporter: the trump administration is desperate for a legislative victory on health care. as the 100 day mark of their

administration approaches. >> there is no give-up. we started. remember, it took obamacare 17 months. i have really been negotiating this for two months maybe less than that. >> reporter: congress returns tuesday, republicans have been quietly negotiating during the spring recess. e amendment could turn some ain lawmakers away. representative dan donovan of new york told associated press, he remains a no vote. partly because the legislation would increase medicaid costs for his constituents. every time they move the scrimmage line, you risk losing other people who were yes, but this changes them to a no. house republicans have a conference call schedule ford saturday. members will be briefed on latest health care developments. but, let's not forget that congress only has one week to avert a government shutdown. that will likely take priority over health care. >> does it seem like they're making any progress with that at all at this point? >> government shutdown. a lot of questions, actually,

that today. going to be the government shutdown. health care. he said both. so -- get your seatbelts on, because next week. >> yeah. >> next week definitely something. >> thank you, josh. >> thank you for joining us. >> we are going to turn now to the troubling situation that played out in downtown seattle. police exchanged gunfire with a robbery suspect. three police officers were injured, during the shootout. and one suspect its dead. after a convenience store robbery. it is unclear if the suspect died from police gunfire however. >> officers are expected to survive their injuries. two other suspects are in police custody. and in georgia, chilling video of the moment before a suspect pulls out a gun and shoots an officer. sergeant jeff scott was responding to a domestic dispute, the suspect ran into a wooded area behind a house. once confronted he pulled out a gun and fired at the officer. the suspect was shot three times and remains hospitalized. the officer is okay. the entire incident was captured on the officer's body camera.

quarterback eli manning doesn't get emotional? he is angry. he says, at accusations that he knowingly conspired to defraud memorabilia collectors. a civil racketeering lawsuit charges that he and the team, conspired to sell equipment that was not used in games, while claiming that it was. manning says criticizing how he but he definitely takes his personally. >> i have done nothing wrong. i have nothing to hide. and i know that when this is all done, everybody will see it the same way. again -- >> choking up a little bit there. the lawsuit first filed three years ago. but a new filing this week includes e-mails that manning says were, taken out of context. >> well from football now to golf. it seems as if tiger woods' 2017 golf season is in doubt. the pro golfer has just had me.gery on his back for a fourth the 14-time major champion says

stunnin stunning images after a drone battery explodes in massachusetts. it was charging on a pool table. the family was sleeping. but was alerted once the smoke alarm went off. that explosion also captured on surveillance video. a bright flashlighting up the street. the homeowner says he is grateful the family was home, otherwise their home would have been destroyed. >> there is growing outcry this morning over a piece of video that surfaced recently. from florida. a 10-year-old boy with autism, arrested, hand cuffed, all at his school. >> it was all caught on cell phone video by his own mother. abc's clayton sandell has the story. >> reporter: this is 10-year-old john benjamin haygood at school. >> you have the same results as an adult. >> reporter: his mother who says he
