thousands gathering on the national mall today for the march for science. the rain is still falling across the area at this hour. meteorologist josh knight has a first look. josh: for the most part, we are looking at trying trends overnight and tomorrow. a big improvement from today. bethesda, congressional country club, just over a third of an inch of rain. we have had rain most of the day, but pretty light. the other number that jumps out is 51 degrees. switching over to satellite and radar, rain working its way across the area. a severe thunderstorm watch in southern virginia and north carolina. thereason we do not have severe weather is thanks to the cold front that is cutting through norfolk right now. light showers, but the back end starting to dry out the i-81 corridor. right

things are really starting to break down and dropped to the south. as the high pressure moves in from the north, we are looking for a dryer sunday, but cool, low to mid 50's. rest in right now 51, annapolis 56. we stay cold tonight and into tomorrow. moves out,the rain and by. tomorrow morning, all of that is pushing further to the south overnight temperatures into the 40's. tomorrow morning, still sticking with cloud cover, but i think it is a dry sunday. a wet beginning to the work week. i will talk about that coming up. the world today, thousands showed up to march for science. today's demonstrations showed support for scientific research and evidence-based policies and protect their federal funding sources. tens of thousands of people marched right here in the nation's capital. anna-lysa gayle has a look at

90a-lysa: nancy, about minutes ago, thousands of people were marching down madison avenue. l nye ate met by bil;l 15th and constitution avenue. he was one of many of the marchers, and then they wound up here in front of capitol hill. >> science is political. but it is not partisan. anna-lysa: many of the signs on display for the march were a political statement, summer urging president donald trump to continue providing federal funding for organizations that rely on science. people came from across the country, including this nine-year-old from flint, michigan. >> kids are getting lead poisoning. anna-lysa:

w each other. no word on if charges are filed. in lot and county, federal aviation investigators are looking into a clash of -- crash landing this morning at leesburg executive airport. the pilot was taking off on a trip to georgia. about an hour into the flight, the weather started to worsen, so the pilot turned around and started having engine trouble, landing in a field. he was not hurt. attendant onight leave after a confrontation with a passenger. guy, you do that to me and i will knock you flat. nancy: another passenger shot the video. this happened on an american airlines plane at the gate in san francisco. a woman from argentina was traveling with her children and became upset when a flight attendant told her she had to gate check her stroller.

too wide for the aisle, but winces said that he nearly hit one of the children, leading the mother to tears. >> he just yanked it, violently. a baby almost got hurt. that is what fired me up. nancy: the woman and her children were put on another flight and upgraded to first class. american airlines has apologized and is investigating. fire departments responding to track issues on two different lines in d.c. and maryland. the problem started this morning on the red line, heavy smoke with fire caused by an arcing light. they suspended service before being restored after a few hours. the other problem was an arcing insulator at columbia heights, leading to single tracking in the area on the green and yellow lines. an unusual afternoon

nancy: family and friends saying goodbye to a man whose murder was posted on facebook on easter sunday. that video remained on facebook for about two hours before it was deleted. the police say this was a random killing.

himself following a police chase in pennsylvania tuesday. in oklahoma, cleanup is underway after a series of storms yesterday that brought heavy rain and high wind, as well as hail. trees were uprooted and buildings damaged. new injuries were reported. a tornado watch was in effect for southern oklahoma and northern texas, but no confirmed touchdown. and take a look at this good whosetan rescuing a woman car went into a creek during the storm in oklahoma. before first arrived -- first responders arrived, bystanders jumped in to help the woman. they managed to break a window and pull her out. men then stayed on the side of the car to keep the driver from drowning. >> the car flipped. no sense standing around. nancy: the driver was not

at severe looking cold, but a wave of low pressure develops along the front that get stuck with us sunday. fortunately, a little further to the south. monday and tuesday we will get some rain. throughout the evening, looking for rain chances until about 9 p.m., 10 p.m., and then we are dry but the clouds stick around. dropping into the 40's overnight, so it will be a cooler start sunday. if you are waking up early to it will be dry, but remember your jacket. the high-pressure starting to build in, just close enough to hold the rain further to the south. the cloud cover sticks around tomorrow, but i think the rain basically get stuck around richmond. that allows us to have a pretty dry sunday. it moves out quickly, making room for the wave of low pressure to move in. moay

rain coming down. by the time we get everybody off work,s stop and back to sticking around most of the day monday, the slow very slow to get out. heavy rain tuesday morning. 8 a.m., still sticking with us until tuesday night. a wet start to the week. enjoy tomorrow. not the prettiest day, but should be dry. 41 to 50 overnight. some of us will be in the low 40's tomorrow morning, so keep that in mind. we get up to about 60 degrees. the average this time of year is right on the edge of 70, so we are below average. the showers hold off until after dinnertime. the further south you live, they will get there earlier. 56 monday, 59day, tuesday, cool and cloudy, along with the rain. it out, we get to make up for the cooler temperatures, back into the 70's wednesday, looking for highs in the 80's thursday, friday

with the extra heat, we bring in a chance of thunderstorms. i think the more likely days are thursday and saturday next weekend. nancy: a roller coaster ride for temperatures. but it's also a little bit of a roller coaster ride and sports right now. scott: that's a good transition. of gamehave an update three with wizards and hawks. and capitals fans are still trying to recover from last night's overtime win.

nancy: oh, man, today a bit of a washout. sunday will be cloudy, not a beautiful spring day, but not raining. about 9howers until p.m. tonight, and then the dryer turned. tomorrow the rain comes in after dinnertime. monday and tuesday will be pretty much washouts with heavier rain as well. we are still in the moderate drought, so the rain should really help us get back to closer to where we would like to be. cooler monday and tuesday, then 80's thursday and friday. nancy: keep the umbrella handy. thank you for joining us. we will be back here for the 11:00 ws
