>> breaking news alert. and possible sighting of the escaped prison inmate and howard county. brad bell is in the area of the search. he joins us live. what do you know, brad? brad: an awful lot of excitement around here right now. you can see the state police have dorsey road road shut down. the search is very active after a sighting of an unknown individual who matched the description of prison escape the david watson. i want to show you something. it is very distinctive description. it includes a lot of tattoos. one like this. it says "evil."

of his neck. somebody in the vicinity of the clifton to perkins hospital center, the place from where he escaped, spotted an individual matching that description. police have been flooding the scene. the state police helicopter is up. special teams have fanned out across the woods. they were looking at a series of small tunnels in the area. there are streams. it is a densely wooded area. now they have dogs -- federal, state, local authorities are all on scene trying to track down this person, hoping it is in fact david watson. this man serving 106 years for writing the guild police officers -- for trying to kill police officer's. he was being brought here for psychiatric evaluation last week. ran into on a guard,

somehow got out of his shackles. you can see the road remains closed. traffic iscommercial coming out, but no one is being allowed in as the search is underway. we will bring you the very latest as news comes in. lindsey: thank you. fbi director james comey is back on capitol hill testifying before the senate judiciary committee. sam sweeney joins us live. we are finally getting some insight into why he chose to publicize the hillary clinton investigation just days before the election. sam: some eye-opening testimony happening right now. take a live look inside the senate judiciary chambers where this hearing is ongoing. the fbi director just told congress in the last hour or so he feels mildly nauseous at the possibility that he alone affected the 2016 election. he explained why he chose to publicize the reopened

clinton's emails just days before the 2016 election, saying thousands of lost clinton emails surfaced on anthony weiner's computer during a separate investigation. he goes on to say, he had two choices and both were bad. going on to say, concealing the investigation would have been the death of the fbi. thousands of emails from the clinton email domain, including many, many, many from the verizon clinton domain, blackberry domain. they said, we think we have to get a search warrant to get these. the department of justice agreed we had to get a search warrant. so i authorized them to seek a search warrant. that i faced a choice. i have lived my entire current avoid career, if you can an impact of an upcoming election, you avoid it. i could not see a door labeled "no action here." i could see two doors, and there were both actions. one was labeled

new at noon, and anne arundel county police officer is arrested. brian houseman is accused of soliciting prostitutes while on duty and harassing women that he was assigned to help. he has been with the department for 13 years. he has been suspended as an officer and reassigned to administrative duties pending the investigation. right now a key clue surfacing and the search for those responsible for a racist display on american university's campus. john gonzales is following the latest developments in the case that has sent shockwaves across the school. john: this is being investigated as a hate crime. campus police believe they have been able to pinpoint the person responsible here. it appears the person worked alone and they were captured on camera. there are dozens of these blue emergency post all over the campus

in fact, from where we are standing on the corner of nebraska and new mexico, we can see seven of them. you can see one down the road there and one across the street. police immediately knew there was a good chance this person was captured, and that is what you're looking at right here. that is the person of interest seen wandering around the campus at around 4:00 monday morning. it appears a are wearing a mask. they're holding a bag. just hours later, several bananas hanging from newss were found -- nooses are hanging around the campus. it was appearing to target a sorority. >> bringing to light it happen, turning this into a criminal case -- i don't wanted to divert from the issue at hand. john: students one specific changes by the administration, including student expulsion when connected a

this. better faculty training to deal with delicate issues. and the hiring of more people of color, more minorities. campus police this afternoon have a 1000 all reward for a tip that leads to the identification of the person in that video. at american university, john gonzales. lindsey: two people are lucky to be alive, making it out of a home added by flames in aspen hill. suzanne kennedy shows us what soe fighting the fire difficult. suzanne: take a look behind me. you can see there is debris everywhere at this aspen hill home where the fire took place overnight. firefighters say they found hoarding conditions when they arrived just after midnight. some of it, a lot of it, actually, is in the front yard. 60 firefighters work to on southendhe blaze road. the debris was in every room. in some cases, was floor to ceiling.

meant it was very difficult, if not impossible, to get fire hoses into the home. one neighbor came here this morning, took some pictures, and was shocked by the amount of trash that cover the property. >> they have been here longer than i have been. i can understand that. but it makes one to wonder, you need to get rid of stuff, you know. that is the only thing i can say about me is that, you know, i wouldn't really want to be in a situation like that because makes it attractive to fire. working there were smoke detectors, so the couple was able to get out safely. there was one firefighter injured. authorities say at this point, the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. it did $225,000 in damage. in aspen hill, suzanne kennedy. lindsey: turning now to the weather, clear blue skies and just a

and what happens for the next 10 days when i join you in about seven minutes. lindsey: tonight trying to push for change at a d.c. veterans hospital after a report found patients were being treated in deplorable conditions. q mccray has more on the town hall being held tonight to address concerns. >> the need for tonight's townhall meeting at 7:00 p.m. here at dba hospital was sparked by this 10 page report put out by the inspector general. we told you about the report three weeks ago on 12 when it was released. it talks about a slew of issues at the hospital from supply issues, sanitary issues, safety issues all here at the va hospital. it mentions one incident where nurses went into the trash to onse old and used supplies patients. it talks about more than $159 worth of equipment and supplies and accountable for --

$150 million worth of equipment and supplies that were untenable for. that led to procedures being canceled if not delay. since the release of this report, there is been a change, several changes, including when it comes to leadership. there is a new director of the hospital. we're told changes have been made to satisfy the requirements mentioned in this 10 page report. those improvements, those changes will be talked about tonight during the townhall meeting. in addition to the patient complains. so that is the latest, i am q mccray. lindsey: coming up, a plane goes down in a ball of flames in the middle of a busy road. we have the draw dropping video. good charges becoming? thelatest following termination of a texas cop that killed a teenager. this is a live look over the scene in howard county. the search continues for an escaped inmate. there is a process -- hostile citing.

now,a: on the roads right speaking of howard county, authorities have shut down at least one roadway with the investigation. .orsey run road is blocked also in manassas, a closure we have had since early this morning for folks traveling on 200 34 business. with annd is blocked investigation and cleanup. we're looking at interstate 95 traveling through howard county at maryland 100. we have some northbound and southbound delays. 95 through virginia, heavy earlier crash at the fairfax county parkway. northbound and southbound delays as well. southbound, rowley -- rolling maintenance vehicle. that is the latest from traffic

>> abc 7 news at noon on your side. lindsey: breathtaking video at a washington state. that plane came out of nowhere. it clipped power lines before going down in a ball of flames in the middle of rush hour traffic. the plane slammed into the road. it hit several cars. investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash. no one was seriously injured. who openedhe officer fire, killing a 15-year-old boy who was leaving a party, is out of a job. the family of the victim once him criminally charged. emily rao has the latest. after reviewi

i have made the decision to terminate boy oliver. >> the family of 15-year-old jordan edwards grateful for the announcement that officer roy oliver is out of a job. the bolt springs police chief initially is holding his name, but putting him on paid leave. within this major reversal, the chief firing all of her after watching two separate body camera videos from saturday night. was unintentionally incorrect yesterday when i said the vehicle was backing down the road. >> police got the call around 11:00 p.m. for a house party full of intoxicated teenagers. officers said when they arrived, they encountered a car backing toward them. the chief saying the bodycam tells a different story. >> and act them according to the video, the vehicle was moving forward as the officers approached. >> in the car, edwards, along with his brothers, rushing to leave. the officer fired at the departing vehicle, hitting edwards in the head.

suburb are calling for oliver's arrest and the body cameras made public. if you live in your report about a shooting and you are a police officer, there needs to be consequences. >> the freshman first ballplayer -- football player and honor students has the magnitude cannot be overstated and that their family is working hard to deal with the loss of our beloved jordan. the family's attorney says they want to see officer oliver indicted. he now has 10 days to appeal his termination. missouri arele in bracing for more heavy rain following those deadly floods across the midwest. the rising waters have claimed at least five lives and officials say the meramec river is that nearly historic levels right now with floodwaters damaging at least 200 homes and threatening to overflow into 1500 more.

off tomorrow morning, winds the ocean. we know right away you will be cooler because of that. eventually, clouds will thicken. by early tomorrow evening, a good chance of rain developing from the west at of a warm front. the warm front comes in overnight and early friday with ands of heavy downpours thunderstorms. this will push a cold front through. many times they will push quickly out to sea. not this one. it looks like this is going to cut off and spin and spin and spin and keeping us rather cloudy and chilly for a number of days. additionally one inch to two inch of rainfall. of next few days, plenty sunshine and a few clouds, 68 today, 65 tomorrow with increasing clouds. showers and thunderstorms and mild on friday. through the weekend, he will stay on the cool side. 63 on saturday.

come out. earlier today, there was a sighting of an unknown person matching the description of the escaped inmate david watson. we learned a little bit of details that the person was seen actually wearing a worker reflective vest and hardhat and was seen running through the woods. massiveave brought in numbers of k-9 officers, special swat teams have moved into the woods. two helicopters at least overhead all looking to try to find this person who escaped as he was serving a 106 year sentence for trying to kill police officers. we will bring you the latest throughout the afternoon. brad bell, abc 7 news. lindsey: we will be right back.
