your side sleeping guests awake to gunshots inside of a hotel in alexandria. three people were shot. one victim is fighting for her life tonight. ryan hughes spoke to the guests who heard the cries for help. ryan: it was just after 2:15 in the morning when guests staying at the extended stay america heard shots. >> i heard the shots. i said, hey, those are shots. 28-year-old man is in critical condition and a 21-year-old woman and a 35-year-old woman were taken to the hospital after being shot inside the hotel. elizabeth hur the shots and one of the victim's cries for help. >> she was saying he help me, i've been shot. ryan:

she and her family are from michigan, in town for police week to honor her uncle, a u.s. border patrol agent who was killed in a shootout in 2010. the crime scene in the hotel reopen old wounds. >> him getting shot, what happened out there. ryan: alexandria police have been here most of the day. not identified a suspect or motive. investigators are also reviewing surveillance video, hoping there is key evidence to track down the shooter. >> going further into the investigation, hopefully we get details. victims are from alexandria, but it's not clear why they were at the hotel. in alexandria, ryan hughes, abc 7 news. kimberly: incredibly sad irony. it is national police week. officers from around the country will gather on the national mall for the national law enforcement memorial fund annual candlelight vigil. attorney general jeff sessions

california firefighters are still hitting hotspots at a massive fire at a construction site near oakland. flames lighting up the morning sky across the bay area. it took several hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control. it could be tomorrow before it is fully out. no word on the cause, but it is suspicious because this same construction site earned in a six alarm fire last july. a terminal shell full and busy l.a. x is underway, 15 airlines moving operations in the largest terminal relocation in the history of los angeles international airport. this will make room for the delta sky way, the nearly $2 billion plan to renovate three terminals over the next seven years. the rain and gray skies are going goodbye. molly has a look at the weather for mother's day

tohear how his wife felt about him were less time. he was renovating his home and an unopened love letter written in 1945. after a quick web search, the new jersey man found his son, who was able to read it to his father. it brought both men to tears. his wife died six years ago, and they think the letter likely fell through a crack in the upstairs floor all those years ago. robert: amazing. kimberly: did you know that it is national apple pie day? often topped with fresh whipped cream, ice cream, or even cheddar cheese. 1900 -- before 1900, apple pies were considered breakfast food. let's bring that back. molly:
