a security guard, a father of three, stabbed to death by suspected shoplifter. >> i was happy he was captured. he could do that to someone else. scott: 7 on your side wants to know if crime is on the rise at your favorite mall. dugweeks, the i-team through crime records at 25 malls in the washington region. we identified through police data the top seven malls with the highest number of total totald crimes -- of crimes from 2015 until 2016, raising from the most serious crime of assault to misdemeanors including shoplifting. here are the top seven come in random order. over the past two years, potomac mills all 33 assaults. in 2016, the assault numbers dropped. 53% reduction a in overall complaints. springfield town center in springfield, virginia.

corner, a two-year total of 99 assaults, but also a drop in assaults during 2016. tysons corner tells us fairfax county police are at the mall seven days a week and it's a far greater level of coverage than most locations. sterling,n center in virginia, 17 assaults in the past two years. in 2015, that number dropped. fashion centre at pentagon city in virginia, 30 assaults since 2015. that's have dropped 31%. fair oaks mall and fairfax virginia makes the top seven, 26 assaults over the two years, but last year the number of assaults dropped. in leesburg, va come in the top seven, it assaults in the past two years, but more than 200 cases of shoplifting since 2015. >>
