good evening. another day, another bombshell out of washington. late today we learn that president trump allegedly asked the now-fired fbi director james comey to end his investigation into the former national security adviser michael flynn. this comes on the heels of reports that the president shared confidential intelligence with the russians. abc's david wright is covering these fast-moving developments tonight. >> reporter: tonight at the white house, controversy on two fronts. >> it's totally improper. >> stun, breathtaking revelat n revelation. >> reporter: "the new york times" reports in february, the president personally asked the fbi director, james comey, to go easy on national security adviser michael flynn. a source close to comey tells abc news the fbi director wrote himself a memo in february, the day after flynn was fired, for lying about his conversations with the russian ambassador.
12:41 am
the president allegedly told comey, according to the source, "he's a good guy, i hope you can let this go." comey didn't. >> comey's memos are especially significant because this is what he wrote in realtime. immediately following his conversations with the president. >> reporter: abc news has not seen comey's memo, neither has "the new york times." those sources did confirm its existence. tonight the white house is pushing back insisting the "times" story is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation. insisting the president has never asked mr. comey or anyone else to end any investigation. some democrats on the hill say this raises serious questions of obstruction of justice, an impeachable offense. >> that is the fundamental question, is anyone, including the president of the united states, above the law? >> did you reveal classified information to the russians? >> reporter: this new controversy hot on the heels of another one. >> mr. president, did you share
