and killed in prince george's county. over the scene on asbury drive, where shots were fired around 10:30 this morning. the shooter is still on the run. there is still a heavy police presence at the scene. we will update as information becomes available. police in d.c. need your help as they search for a man who robbed and sexually assaulted a woman in northeast. take a look at this video. police say the man dressed all in black held a woman at gunpoint and robbed her, then forced her into an alley and assaulted her. if you recognize this man, please call d.c. police. happening now, crews are out in full force working on macarthur boulevard after that water main break. i last checked, it will be closed till tomorrow. -- at last check, it will be closed until tomorrow. machinery is now in place.

roadway have been restricted to bicyclists and pedestrians since a water main broke last wednesday. this is what it looked like when 30" pipeear-old ruptured. water was flowing through the streets before d.c. water was able to shut it off. authorities had to wait for a part to be brought in to complete the repairs. >> i've walked a lot more. the bus that used to stop right at my office doesn't stop at my office. that's about a mile away. definitely an inconvenience. so, that impacts my time. >> asphalt will be laid today. as soon as it is, this roadway will be able to reopen. that is a much improved situation from what was originally predicted. they thought this road would not be back in serce

in northwest washington, suzanne kennedy, abc 7 news. lindsey: to the weather now, soggy start in the day. it has cleared up out there. still a bit chilly. many hoping we can get back to the shorts and sunglasses weather. doug: that kind of weather is coming back friday and for the weekend. we noticed an interesting pattern all week, early morning rain, pretty much rain free during the day, and more rain at night. wetemperatures holding in the 's right now. 64 at quantico. 63 degrees in baltimore. -- llite and radar are left with cloud cover with the sunshine across pennsylvania and northern maryland. some bright spots from time to time. we do expect a dry afternoon. it all changes this evening with the next batch of rain coming in. i think things work out fi

discussion is going on at the alexandria police headquarters today. the focus is on heroin and other opioids and the deadly epidemic surrounding them. the attorney general is leading this roundtable discussion with alexandria police, community leaders, and doctors. this type of addiction and overdose, on a dangerous rise here in northern virginia. such a search that alexandria launched a year-long investigation, concluding with a huge drug bust that seized more than 400 grams of heroin and disrupted a drug trafficking network that has pushed nearly $1 million on virginia streets. the devastating epidemic is to blame for nearly 200 fatal overdoses in northern virginia last year. >> as business leaders, when you are reviewing your health plans annually,usiness check to make sure that there are treatment services that are part of those plans. so, we all have a role to play in this. john:

those delays extending across the american legion bridge. our big picture map showing some delays on d.c. 295 due to the work zone set up on the northbound lanes. we are jammed both north and southbound on the anacostia freeway. bigger problems on the capital beltway in oxon hill. a live look at our traffic cameras. the crash is on the ramp from i-295 southbound merging with the local lanes of the inner loop of the capital beltway. that has created some major delays. we are looking at a closure, creating some95, delays southbound 295.

incredible video out of california. it was a tanker truck that overturned and exploded. it killed the driver. the massive flames and heavy smoke send others in the area fleeing. the truck was carrying about 9000 gallons of fuel. it was about a quarter-mile from its destination. investigators believe the driver was going to fast and it took over -- going too fast and it tipped over. two adults trading blows inside a georgia classroom. take a look at this cell phone video. it's a teacher and another school staff member. they are caught going blow for blow in the classroom packed with middle school students. one of those students even tried to break up the fight, but was unsuccessful. school staff members were called to break it up, and now parents are calling for both involved to be fired. >> we send our kids to school to learn, for the

sit there and witness a fight between two adults. lindsey: there is still no word on what sparked the fight. both staff members were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. school officials said they will discipline both of them appropriately after the criminal investigation is over. a 32-year-old cold case in prince george's county is warming up now. police just identified a north carolina man who was shot and killed in beltsville back in 1984. sam sweeney has more on who the victim was and the next steps in the investigation. in 1984, a father and his eight-year-old son were walking along baltimore avenue here in beltsville. they stumbled upon a corpse and called 911. prince george's county police determined the man had been dead for three months. he died of multiple gunshot wounds. for the last 33 years, they couldn't figure out his name -- until now.

decades old cold case, there is a name, face, and even a picture. 27-year-old former marine shot to death in 1984 is bennett louis. >> his pockets had been rifled through. there was no identification on him. there were skeletal remains to begin with. however, the evidence tax were able to find -- evidence techs were able to find fingerprints. sam: the fbi recently ran his prince and they had a met -- his prints, and they had a match. from that arrest, that fingerprint that was taken back then, they were able to make an id. sam: prince george's county police tracked down bennett louis' family. they called. his five sisters were shocked. >> the family

missing. they thought he just started a life of his own in north carolina. sam: for years, they looked for him, but came up short. now the family and prince george's county police want to know why he was in the washington, d.c., area when he was supposed to be in north carolina and they also want to know who killed him. if you have any information, you're asked to contact prince george's county police. lindsey: happening now, many across the country are gearing up for the busiest travel weekend of the year so far. ryan hughes is in mobile track 7 with a few tips that may make your trip a lot easier. reporter: in just a few short hours, the rush on the roads will be on, leading up to the unofficial start of summer. nearly one million people around the dmv are expected to hit the road for the memorial day weekend. according to aaa, that is the highest number since summer of 2005. we have been on the road to help you navigate through the

and help you avoid getting stuck in the gridlock this weekend. timing is everything. traffic is expected to get heavier and heavier as we get closer to the weekend. if you're going to head to the delmarva beaches, you will want to leave for the bay bridge before 10:00 a.m. on thursday and friday or after 10:00 on night -- at night on those days. the naval academy will be having its graduation on friday, so expect some extra congestion around that area. those extra get days off and you are going to be leaving on saturday, set the alarm extra early to get out the door. you want to arrive at the bay bridge before 7:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. to avoid the worst traffic. if you're going to be heading in the opposite direction, heading south, vdot says the worst day is friday. expect delays on i-95. leave before 11:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. this is the first major travel weekend of the busy summer season.

the peak periods, and be flexible. ryan hughes, abc 7 news. a lot of people might be wanting to move up memorial day plans to saturday, when it's expected to be very nice. doug: i think it will be the driest of the two days. it's not going to be a washout weekend. it will be warmer than today. that much we know. the rest, we are still kind of fuzzy. all morning long, we had tons of cloudiness around the area. we will have a little peek of sunshine north of the metro area. temperatures will warm up a bit. the rest of the region holding in the 60's for the balance of the afternoon. don't expect any active weather. there are clouds and a few breaks of sunshine. the farther north and east you are, the sunnier the skies. we do not have

from charlotte all the way through south carolina, georgia all the way through north-central and central florida. a variety of storm systems down there, each capable of producing severe weather. that will stay well west of washington. we could see an isolated thunderstorm or two tonight. we have a warm front, an area of low pressure, and a cold front combined into a storm complex that will control the weather through friday. late tonight, showers likely around the area, and some thunderstorms. overnight, the same deal. we will get a bit of a break in the morning. toward midday and afternoon, everything starts rolling through. the cold front comes in. all the ingredients in place for more widespread showers and thunderstorms that last until tomorrow night. by friday morning, things start to clear out and improve. the weekend calls for nice -- a nice saturday. sunday and monday, memorial day, a little better chan
