right of the animals. five minutes ago, we saw a long line of 30 to 45 students, elementary-school aged, being walked through the parking lot. this all happened a few hours ago. there was a smell of bad odor in the air, described by one source as the smell of gas. and that is what prompted the evacuation of this school. sky track 7 over the scene during the evacuation. we're not exactly clear if the school has reopened, and if people are back inside. there are still, i would say, at least 20 emergency vehicles on scene. you can come back out to us live right now. we have walked just about 100 feet west of where the school is, right here at the potomac woods swing and tennis -- swim and tennis club.

into work today, heading to the beach early, being attractive. this is what route 50 looks like. we are pulled over right before you get to the bay bridge. that is 50 eastbound. on the other side, of course, westbound, moving smoothly right now. this wawa gas station is a madhouse. a lot of folks with the same idea -- to leave early. this is expected to be the busiest memorial day weekend in the d.c. area in 12 years -- kind of surprising. take a look at the gas price. eight cents more than it was last memorial day, the average $2.36 a gallon. that is not stopping these folks from crownsville. the three of you headed to the beach early. he said to me earlier, what is the boss going to say, you are the boss. you give yourself permission. >> i did. john: what was the thought process, leaving today, as opposed to late friday night or even the weekend?

the national zoo artificially inseminated the panda and she is in her cage. she was up running around in her cage. crowds too much. it has been a busy 24 hours. scientists noticed she was at her highest levels, ready to mate, but -- was not ready to. they had to make their move. we should let you know panda's can only get pregnant once a year, and they only have a small window with a able to get pregnant, 24 to 78 hours. scientists have to go in quickly when it is time, and that is what they did yesterday. earlier this morning we caught up with two of the scientists that helped take all of this happen. let's listen to what they had to say. the issue we have a sometimes the behavior between the male and the female -- they are not really in sync. we cannot put them together, but in the meantime we know it is time for the female to conceive. ,
