[captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] lindsey: and breaking right now, a hazmat situation at a rockville elementary school. kevin lewis is at ritchie park elementary school, and we understand several students are being evacuated right now. kevin: that is correct. 14 students and faculty members being evaluated. the fire department, including a number of squads, ambulances, engines on scene. you can see there looks to be a stretcher with a number of metal

right of the animals. five minutes ago, we saw a long line of 30 to 45 students, elementary-school aged, being walked through the parking lot. this all happened a few hours ago. there was a smell of bad odor in the air, described by one source as the smell of gas. and that is what prompted the evacuation of this school. sky track 7 over the scene during the evacuation. we're not exactly clear if the school has reopened, and if people are back inside. there are still, i would say, at least 20 emergency vehicles on scene. you can come back out to us live right now. we have walked just about 100 feet west of where the school is, right here at the potomac woods swing and tennis -- swim and tennis club.

into work today, heading to the beach early, being attractive. this is what route 50 looks like. we are pulled over right before you get to the bay bridge. that is 50 eastbound. on the other side, of course, westbound, moving smoothly right now. this wawa gas station is a madhouse. a lot of folks with the same idea -- to leave early. this is expected to be the busiest memorial day weekend in the d.c. area in 12 years -- kind of surprising. take a look at the gas price. eight cents more than it was last memorial day, the average $2.36 a gallon. that is not stopping these folks from crownsville. the three of you headed to the beach early. he said to me earlier, what is the boss going to say, you are the boss. you give yourself permission. >> i did. john: what was the thought process, leaving today, as opposed to late friday night or even the weekend?

take the sky over the nation's capital. some breaks up blue and some cloudiness. it is mild. 71, a big number -- the woman that has been for a bit. he will see temperatures continue to climb into the 70's this afternoon. showers over parts of st. mary's county, a few more to the north, as we see. as we get into the afternoon, that will go away, it will have periods of clouds and sunshine. tomorrow, things start to unwind a little bit. a flow of air out of the northwest. drier air. improving conditions this afternoon, good for afternoon or evening activities around the area despite the brief. tomorrow, things start to change. some models give the chance of showers in the area in the morning toward him. clear it out, -- noon. clear it out, and then more showers in the evening. most of the viewing area is in a marginal risk for

montgomery county -- several motorists try to drive through the water. one got stuck and had to get himself back out of the water -- themselves out of the water. street, residents say they were not aware until they will come -- woke up. trees -- thee street because of the huge trees that provided a cathedral -feeling when you drove down the road. now there is fewer of them. suzanne: despite all of this damage, no one was injured in any of these incidents. in northwest washington, suzanne kennedy, abc 7 news. lindsey: new at noon, we are on panda watch -- we got word that the giant panda has been artificially inseminated. sam sweeney is at the national zoo where there are high hopes a new panda cub could be on the way. sam: lindsay, fingers are crossed here. we just learned in the last hour or so that

the national zoo artificially inseminated the panda and she is in her cage. she was up running around in her cage. crowds too much. it has been a busy 24 hours. scientists noticed she was at her highest levels, ready to mate, but -- was not ready to. they had to make their move. we should let you know panda's can only get pregnant once a year, and they only have a small window with a able to get pregnant, 24 to 78 hours. scientists have to go in quickly when it is time, and that is what they did yesterday. earlier this morning we caught up with two of the scientists that helped take all of this happen. let's listen to what they had to say. the issue we have a sometimes the behavior between the male and the female -- they are not really in sync. we cannot put them together, but in the meantime we know it is time for the female to conceive. ,

no conclusive, really, attraction between the male and the female, we decide to move toward an artificial insemination. sam: the big question right now is ok, when will we find out if mei xiang is pregnant? scientists tell us it takes about three months until they can can -- until they can conclusively know which brings us until the end of august, but sometimes their pregnancies are only three months, so they can find out she is pregnant, and then she could have the panda cubs, but it could take as long as six months. we'll wait to find out if everything is successful. the panda will appear at the national zoo for four years before going to china. live at the national zoo, sam sweeney, abc 7 news. lindsey: thank you. happening now, funeral services are underway for the bowie state student murdered on the caps on the university of maryland. family and friends of second lieutenant richard collins iii

are gathered at a church in upper marlboro, saying goodbye. collins was murdered by a white student, while visiting a friend. police are investigating whether it was a hate crime. right now, president trump is knee-deep in meetings at the g7 summit in italy, with talks focus on major world issues such as security following the deadly attack in manchester. meanwhile, back here at home, the investigation into russian meddling in the election is heating up. here is abc's stephanie ramos. stephanie: and we go again -- another big moment for president trump on this final stretch of his first overseas trip. the president now in sicily to meet with world leaders at the g7 summit, including a reunion with japan's prime minister shenzhen lobby. pres. trump: it is great to have prime minister abe, a friend of mine -- stephanie: after telling members of nato to pay up yesterday -- pres. trump:

nations are still not paying what they should be paying them what they are supposed to be paying for their defense. this is not fair to the people and taxpayers of the united states. stephanie: for the next two days, talked at the g7 with -- will include the syrian civil war and the fight against isis, and russian aggression. russia consistent topic here in washington as well. sources tell abc news jared kushner, the president's son-in-law and senior advisor, is among the former campaign officials and white house staffers likely to be interviewed by the fbi in connection to the russian investigation. jared kushner's lawyer said the first son-in-law will cooperate, writing in a statement "mr. kushner previously volunteered to share with congress what he knows about the meetings. he will do the same if he is contacted in connection with another inquiry." kushner's vacation with russian officials was not listed

lindsey: starting today, thousands of motorcycle riders are rumbling into town for the 30th annual rolling thunder, honoring the brave men and women who died serving our country. those bikers are set to arrive in pentagon city around 3:00 in the afternoon, and the ride on sunday is going to start at the pentagon, and ends at the step of the lincoln memorial. that will be a beautiful day to honor. doug: sunday looks a lot better, you know, then tomorrow does, because tomorrow afternoon, 3:00, 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., thunder storm chances are creeping up. there will be chances of showers each day. with this view in rehoboth beach, dollar. 71 degrees and sunshine. this is what i mean -- not perfect, a bit on the cool side. lower-70's at the beaches. isolated showers and thunderstorms chances over the holiday weekend as well. in between, decent outdoor and beach time.

low-70's sunday and monday. showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, afternoon and evening. a slider chance as we get through the day on monday. locally, dealing with temperatures in the lower-70's. 73 in culpeper and monopolist -- annapolis. hagerstown still holding the 60's. 64 degrees. weems still gusty. the wind gust at 31 miles per hour. 24 at reagan national. 23 in annapolis. joint base andrews, east and southeast of the city, 26 mile per hour gust, but those are by and large bringing in drier and warmer air. if you are think about going golfing, the weather will be comfortably one. satellite and radar -- tracking a few little showers north of the metro area. they will move southeast, but should dissipate. an isolated sprinkle not impossible, but generally more sunshine mixing with the clouds.

as we get through the afternoon. by 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., we should be on the sunnyside, comfortably warm. quickly in the morning clouds approach. some models are suggesting a little rain could come in here, 9:00, 10:00, 11 in the morning. a brief downpour, and then remain cloudy. right now the thinking is best chances will be south and southwest for the showers and storms, and south and east for the atlantic beaches. the nationals forecast -- pretty good, partly cloudy, temperatures in the 70's. we will hold their way through the evening hours. pool outlook -- good. watch for showers and storms. water might be chilly. rolling thunder looks ok as well.

lindsey: a consumer alert this afternoon about one of the hottest toys on the market. kids everywhere are using those fidget spinners, but now it is being investigated due to safety concerns. good morning america's jesse palmer has the details. jesse: the hottest toys right now called fidget spinners is being investigated by the consumer products safety commission. >> our concern about the spinner toys is they seem to be falling apart. young children have had to have surgery to remove them. jesse: two separate cases are causing concern -- one in houston after her mom posted x-ray after her 10-year-old daughter swallowed a piece of the popular fidget spinner. the little girl having to have surgery. >> if i had known that toy came apart, i would not let him get a hold of it. jesse: another in
