2011 and has proven so popular it's now expanded to other cemeteries across the country. alison: of course. arlington is the -- nancy: arlington is largest military cemetery in area but not the only one. q mccray went to mount olivet cemetery in district today. >> this is my uncle joe who served in the army as a sergeant. >> she wants the world to know about her uncle joe. >> i remember saying how sharp he looked in the uniform. >> he was eligible to be buried at the cemetery but the loved ones wanted him closer to home. >> this is our family cemetery. he has a sister who is a couple of steps down from him. her daughter. up from her. >> her mother is here, too. this is a common mount olivet cemetery visit for

memorial day. veterans from the civil war were laid to rest here. so, too, is the case at the soldier's home national cemetery where every single one of the more than 14,000 gravestones is adorned with the old glory, planted by volunteers for memorial day. holiday she feels should be celebrated every day. veterans like her uncle joe deserve the attention. >> good memories. he served his country and that makes me proud. >> local cemeteries aren't the only places where the veterans are remembered today. there was a cemetery here at the world war ii memorial. there were very special guests and we'll introduce you to one of them in the 6:00 hour. q mccray, abc7 news. nancy: thank you. the world war ii memorial was dedicated 13 years ago today. this morning the veterans of the great

about their service. more than a dozen veterans helped lay wreaths at the freedom wall in honor of the brothers and the sisters who did not come home. larry: down the hall, people flock to the vietnam veterans memorial. richard reeve picks up the team coverage with some of the stories. richard this is an emotional place. you can see we pan over at the names on the wall here. this is what touches people so much. we will pan down and show here the pictures as well. right near the memorial here. we met two army veterans who met each other for the first time here ten years ago. every memorial day they come to touch, honor, remember. touch the smooth dark stone for one of the names etched here. >> we weren't well-treated when we came back.

yesterday at this time cloudy and gloomy and damp and wet. the temperatures are 15 to 18 degrees warmer around the metro area. that is why it feels so great. if you have the barbecues or outdoor activities this everything the temperatures lower 80's by 7:00. 8:00 in the middle 70's. once the sun goes down past 8:20 this evening the temperatures fall in 70's. and then the 60's. talk about satellite and radar. there is not a lot going on. not around the immediate metro. this is moving at 20 miles per hour. we will have the wet roadways. if you expect anyone using 95 away from the d.c.

larry: a 14th person is in custody in connection to last weekee suicide bombing in manchester. the 23-year-old was arrested on terrorist activity. the police released this fe toe saying it's the accused bomber salman abedi with a blue suitcase days before the attack on the arena. it's not the suitcase used in this bombing but it could lead them to more clues. nancy: zoo in u.k. evacuated after police mauled by a tiger at the hammerton zoo, 80 miles from london. the woman entered the enclosure with the tiger and was killed. the tiger never escaped and

rains. 100,000 people have been displaced. india sent ships with supplies to help those in the remote areas. nancy: in the united states, the midwest dealing with its own dose of deadly weather in missouri. four confirmed tornadoes ripping through the state. in branson, two people drowned after their car was swept away by a flag flood. but that wasn't the only state hit hard by the severe weather. oklahoma dealing with a hailstorm and tennessee had winds gusting more than 70 miles per hour. >> i thought it was the whole city honestly. it looked like everything went dead. >> all the lights. the power lights. the trees were falling left and right to drive through that. out of a movie. >> officials in memphis say it will take a week to have the power fully restored to the city. larry: we are getting a look at how powerful eruptions of alaska's volcano were yesterday. the ash soaring up to 45,000 feet high in the sky.
