this is "world news now." good morning to you on this wednesday. going to start with breaking news from afghanistan. a large explosion rocked the secure diplomatic area of the capital of kabul. >> at least 49 people killed. hundreds injured in a suicide car bombing. went off near the german and british embassies. one reporter at "wall street journal," reported, the blast shattered all the windows at the newspapers office there. no immediate claim of responsibility. but we of course will stay on this breaking story from afghanistan. we will get to the overnight apology from kathy griffin, from the photo that has attention of the secret service. >> she teamed up with tyler shield to post a photo showing her holding what appears to be a bloody head, of donald trump. the head of course was fake, but we blurred the photo because it is very graphic. >> it is not funny.

the u.s. secret service quick to respond, tweeting on it, that it monitors social media to evaluate threats to the president and that it doesn't have the luxury of knowing a person's intent. >> reaction not surprise league has been pretty harsh. the president's son, donald trump jr. called it disgusting not surprising. imagine if a conservative did this to president obama. >> chelsea clinton slammed griffin's photo calling it vile and wrong. >> griffin tried to appease critics with a nonapologetic tweet saying she was mocking the president. later she tweeted out this video apology. >> hey, everybody me kathy griffin. i sincerely apologize. i am just now seeing the reaction of the images, i am a comic. i crossed the line. i moved the line. then i cross it. i went way too far. the image is too disturbing, i understand how it offends people it wasn't funny. i get it.

state charges. meantime, the fbi says they're investigating whether he should face federal hate crime charges. clayton sandell, abc news, portland, oregon. >> passengers on a jet blue flight new york to san francisco got a scare when a fire forced emergency landing in michigan. pilots diverted to grand rapid after passengers reported smoke from a passenger's carry-on bag. faa confirms a fire sparked by computer laptop's lithium battery. the plane landed with no injuries, no delays according to the faa no damage to the plane. >> meanwhile, faa proposing slapping united airlines with a half million dollar fine for allegedly flying a boeing 787 without inspecting its fuel pump. the faa says united mechanic as ledgedly returned the plane for 23 flights before a required inspection. united reportedly wants to continue discussing the case with regulators. >> you might say former waitress in tennessee is in trouble for serving a coke float. as she placed a glass of water on the table, a small bag of cocaine fell into it from her waitress book.

returned and spread to her back. >> 25 years since her diagnosis for breast cancer. here is mara schiavocampo with the sad update. >> reporter: olivia newton john facing a battle with cancer. the 68-year-old singer and icon announcing on facebook page she is reluctantly postponing her june concert tour dates after learning her breast cancer has returned. newton john initially postponing some performances because of severe back pain. later learning her cancer had actually spread to her lower back. while doctors say majority of breast cancer recurrences are within five years they can occur even decades after treatment. newton john first diagnosed with breast cancer 25 years ago. opening up about her battle with abc news. >> i am a different person than i was two years ago. go with my instincts, trust myself now. i feel really happy. i feel, still feel charmed. i'm here. >> reporter: the pop aye can who catapulted to stardom as sandy in grease. has been touring with her album "live on."
