quite a scene overnight in the uk tracking new developments in the london terror attack starting with the investigation. >> police have detained a number of people in those overnight raids after arresting 12 people yesterday. isis claimed responsibility for the attack which killed seven people and injured nearly 50. >> and campaigning resumes today for the uk general election. voting will take place on thursday as scheduled. also rail and subway stations re-open and so did the london bridge where the massacre began. >> so far one of the people killed has been identified. canadian chrissy archibald was living in europe with her fiance. her first time visiting london. they believe they know the names of the attackers. >> the terrorists may have been ready to strike for some time. overnight, police converging on east london, conducting more

terror attacks and this morning, the london bridge re-opening once again following a scene of carnage over the weekend. this white van veering into the crowd on the bridge mowing over helpless pedestrians. >> we heard a crash almost. >> a big loud noise. >> a lot of loud noises. >> reporter: three get out armed with long knives and head toward the busting brealing borough ma then a hail of gunfire. all three attackers shot and killed wearing what looked like suicide vests but they were fakes. this morning british officials say the terrorists may have been waiting for several months to carry out their attack and the trigger, possibly this message posted by isis over the weekend calling on followers to use vehicles, guns and knives to attack. neighbors telling ab news one of the terrorists is of pakistani descent, the father of a toddler with a wife who was

pledging support following a series of controversial tweets. abc's lana zak is live in washington with the details. lana, good morning. >> reporter: goomoing. this was the presidents' day but on the washington social circuit hosting an event for the first time not at the white house or trump property but instead he and the first lady holding a fund-raiser at the iconic ford theater. he took to the podium in a tux for brief remarks describing what happened in london as a horistic terror attack saying the bloodshed must end. >> we renew our stronger stronger than ever before to protect the united states and its allies from a vile enemy that waged war on innocent life. as president, i will do what is necessary to prevent this threat from spreading to our shores. >> reporter: and the president also said that the threat of terrorism has gone

he said that he had spoken with british prime minister theresa may and offered the united states' assistance with their ongoing investigation. kendis, diane. >> lana zak for us live from washington. the president is also facing backlash for his initial reaction to that london attack. >> yeah, he took to twitter to use the attack as justification for enforcement of his stalled travel ban. and he slammed comments by london's mayor sadiq khan as khan was trying to reassure londoners. >> they will see an increased presence over the next few days. no reason to be alarmed. >> reporter: well, the president tweeted at least seven dead and 48 wounded in the terror attack and mayor of london says there is no reason to be alarmed. well, khan's office fired back saying the mayor has more important things to do than to respond to donald trump's ill-informed tweet. those recent attacks in britain and elsewhere have police sharing latest advice on what to do if you find yourself in

>> that comes down to three key word, run, hide and fight. we spoke about it earlier with abc contributor and former fbi counterterrorism official steve gomez. >> if you can't run and you can't hide you need to be prepared to fight and not be prepared to call somebody. you have to be looking for a chair, a trash can, something that they were talking about in this situation. and be prepared to now take out the terrorist with whatever means necessary. but, you know, you could worry about calling somebody later but you got to fight first if you can't run and hide. >> so the run, hide, fight strategy has been credited with saving lives in cirque du soleils but there are analysts who remind us it's not a universal solution that will work all the time. police departments across the u.s. are also on alert. there was extra security last night at the nba finals in oakland and the nypd stepped up patrols in times square as well. the fbi says there are homegrown terror investigates in all 50 states and that of the 2,0

keep former fbi director james comey from testifying on thursday in front of congress. comey is set to face senators looking into possible obstruction. now, the president has already publicly revealed parts of his private conversations with comey. aides say trying to silence comey would be more damaging than to let him speak. now, the white house is turning its attention in the meantime, to the nation's crumbling roads and bridges. the president is launching a major push for his plan to modernize the country's infrastructure. he's calling for a trillion dollar investment. mind you, $200 billion of that would come from federal funds and the rest from states, local governments and the private sector. now, to a developing story, there's some diplomatic chaos in the middle east as four arab nations cut ties with qatar. saudi arabia, bahrain, the united arab emirates and egypt all made separate announces and angry over their support with terrorist groups and support of iran. overnight u.s. officials

moves to cleveland. now, what was one big highlight in this game, i guess, a big story line coming in is that the warriors got a very important player back and by player i mean coach. steve kerr who has been out since game two of the first round of the playoff returned as coach. his team now 14-0 in the playoff. something that never happened in the playoffs before so they seem to be unstoppable. saw this last year, 2-0 for the warriors going back to cleveland. but then, of course, as we know what happened last year, the cavs ended up winning it all so we shall see. guys, we never know what to make of these finals, don't think anything. two blow-out, 2-0 means nothing because we've seen this story play out before. we will see you guys in cleveland for game three on wednesday. kendis, diane, see you real soon. >> all right, appreciate it, t.j., right here on abc. of course, we'll have coverage thursday morning. well, up next in "the pulse," a man mowing his lawn, nothing to see

washington social scene last night. like many previous presidents, the first family attended the annual fundraising gala at ford's theater. president lincoln was assassinated at that theater in 18-65. it was the first washington area social event the president has attended that wasn't at the white house or a trump-branded property. during the event-- president trump addressed the crowd, and denounced this weekend's terror attack in london. mister trump also said that he would do all that's mister trump also said that he would do all that's necessary to prevent similar threats from reaching the u-s. and a show of solidarity in new york.. the empire state building going dark overnight. a twitter post says the iconic tower shut off it's lights to honor the victims of saturday's attack.

in annapolis-- families and friends gathered to honor fallen first responders. this was the scene on sunday at the maryland fire-rescue services memorial. it was an emotional day for loved ones remembering those who gave their lives to serve others. the weather was pretty nice over the weekend in the dmv. but farther north-- some residents in canada looked out their windows and got the shock of their lives. take a look at this! this huge funnel cloud touched down near the town of wimborne, in alberta, canada. no one was hurt, and officials say the winds only caused minor damage in few minutes it was on the ground. nevertheless-- residents say the video and the pictures, are still breath-taking. it's xx and we're just getting started. right now at 5:xx brand new information emerging overnight out of london following a
