this week. alison: such a tragedy. thank you. a story from france, a paris police officer is recovering after being attacked by a man with a hammer outside notre dame cathedral and he reportedly yelled, "this is for syria." another officer shot the suspect sent to the hospital. visitors inside the landmark ordered to put the hands above the heads. more than 130 imam and other leaders are refusing to hold traditional funerals for london attackers. today they identified the third attacker in the rampage. a 22-year-old italian man who had been on a watch list in italy. isis claimed responsibility for the attacks but any direct connection to the terrorist group are not known. >> this show what is the u.k. and europe broadly are up against with the individuals that are radicalized and prepared to

larry: in 2013, prince george's county became the first to offer portuguese classes to students. now the school system is the first in the state to teach opportunities korean. kellye: this is the first year of the class. >> this started us learning the symbols. kellye: but it wouldn't be here if not for the teacher who didn't know if there was enough interest. he created a korean club. at the first meeting there were ten students. by the end of the year there were 30. >> we were able to get a class from a club.

announcer: you're watching "abc7 news at 5:00". on your side. larry: update to the busted water hydrant. many are without water as they are working on repairs in allentown road. they crashed into a hydrant but yesterday a valve burst to send water gushing down the road. work is expected to last in the night. right now only one lane is closed in each direction. alison: new information tonight about the massive meltdown for british airways last night. this morning the head of the airline said it may have been caused by human error. 75,000 passengers had problems when the airlines computer failed. now it looks like it was caused by an engineer disconnecting a power supply at a data center that was near heathrow airport. larry: today is d-day and we looked at how those who stormed the beaches of

alison: most of us like to believe if you go to a bank and take out a cashier's cash it's as good as cash and good forever. one of our viewers found out the hard way that is not necessarily the case. she has been trying unsuccessfully to cash

she finally called horace: who joined the -- horace holmes and he joined the hunt for vanishing money. horace: $13,000 is a lot to let cash through your fingers. in 1987 she and her mother took a trip to bank in d.c. at the time united national bank. her mother purchased a safe deposit box and withdrew money from the account. >> the bank money suggested to put part of the money in a cashier's check. that is what we did. horace: this is the check. in 1993, huff's mother died. she went to the bank got the cashier's check and went to cash it. >> it's like money. good forever. horace: hold on. maybe not. because huff with the help of her family has been trying to get the check cashed since 1993. >> we never received a notice. we didn't. horace: a few problems. first, united national bank

turned to madison national bank that no longer exists, gobbled up by first union bank, taken over by signet snagged by wachovia and eventually purchased by wells fargo. she has over the years written and called all the banks and the federal deposit insurance commission trying to get her money. it appears that $13,088 has vanished. >> they still have my money and i still have the cashier's check. horace: she called "7 on your side" after seeing a story we had done on unclaimed cash. we got to work trying to hunt down her money. what we learned is a bit surprising. >> first we call the consumer financial protection bureau. they told us checks more than six months old are stale checks and it's up to the bank or the credit union to honor one. banking laws for local jurisdictions can override that. the bank that issued the cashier's check was in d.c. so we called the distric

taylor. this is what he says is supposed to happen with uncashed cashier's checks like miss huff. >> the money is turned over after being uncashed to the state. the money was somewhere. she is entitled to it as the payee on the check. horace: according to taylor, the money should have been turned over to district's unclaimed cash department years ago and huff could retrieve it from there. we checked unclaimed cash and her name is not on the database, the online database. so where is her money? we still don't know. the banking commission has taken up her case and pledged to get to the bottom of it. we will follow up. alison: yeah. larry: crazy. my thing is 30 years of interest as well. somebody is holding that money making interest on it. horace: she likely won't get that. hopefully she will get the $13,000 back. i thought it was fascinating. i didn't know about it. alison: find the key to unlock the money. let us know what happens. horace: we're hunting. alison: t
