go to wjla.com/votenow and spin the wheel to where you stand. alison: abc7 has team coverage today. the stormwatch7's chief meteorologist doug hill is in the weather center. steve rudin is out and about getting cool in arlington. michelle: tom roussey in northwest. let's begin with doug hill. not much relief for happy hour or dinner outside. doug: you are right about that. the temperatures and the heat index the way it feels now is the same at 6:00 or 7:00. some relief is on the way. at the moment, the temperatures are in the 90's in many spots. cooler breeze at quantico to make it 87. everybody else in the lower 90's. we have been higher. an hour or so ago we hit 95 at reagan national. tying the record high for the date. nats in town opening a series against the braves. first pitch 88. muggy. you will not need a jacket tonight at the ballpark. that's a good guarantee. no rain worries either. or rain desires. you may have to hold that off a couple of days, too. the story overnight 68 to 78, clear, warm and muggy a

steve: it's your birthday? my gosh! it's the birthday and summer and that is why she loves the hot weather. a lot of folks have to deal with the hot weather. they have torque two in it and stay outside for a long period of time. head to tom roussey in northwest d.c. tom? tom: yeah, it's pretty hot out here as well obviously, as you were saying. most of the river, we are not seeing anybody on it. we are seeing one lone boat. the folks look like they are having a good time. but for the most part they have even abandoned the potomac river. they are not seeing a lot of folks out here. we have seen active people today. the video from the area around the national mall. we also took video of the construction workers who had to be out there near 395 today as well. that is a very hot job in weather like this. there is really no escaping the sun for a lot of them. they were having to find ways to keep cool as were folks on the mall. you know, we caught up with one group that

in washington. stephanie: today, president trump in his first full cabinet meeting at the white house talked up his accomplishments so far. president trump: never has there been a president who passed more legislation, who has done more things than what we have done. stephanie: what the administration still hasn't been able to do is get any version of the travel ban passed. today the 9th circuit court ruled against the travel ban that blocks people from six predominantly muslim countries for entering the u.s. for 90 days and suspend the u.s. refugee program for 120 days. >> it's fully lawful and ultimately will be upheld by the supreme court. stephanie: this is the same day that the attorneys general from district of columbia and maryland announce plans to sue president trump accusing him of violating the constitution by accepting payments from foreign governments while in office. not fully removing himself from his businesses. payments benefiting the president's hotels and golf courses. >> never in the history of this country have we had a

extensive business entanglements. stephanie: the trump administration says these interests do not violate the constitution. >> it's not hard to conclude partisan politics may be motivation behind it. stephanie: the justice department is still trying to figure out what ties if any there were between the trump campaign and russia. attorney general jeff sessions set to answer questions from the senate intelligence committee about his role in firing of former f.b.i. director james comey and his contacts with russians during the campaign. the trump administration says depending on the scope of questions, attorney general jeff sessions could invoke executive privilege where conversations with the president are kept confidential. in northwest, stephanie ramos, abc7 news. alison: abc7 will have complete coverage and analysis after the attorney general's hearing right here at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00. alison: hundreds of people are in custody today after

russia. protesters held the nationwide demonstrations to oppose what they say is corruption among the country's leaders. at least 200 were arrested in st. petersburg alone. the rallies were organized by the anticorruption leader who was also arrested. and faces two weeks in jail. well, today marks one year since one of the worst mass shootings in american history. 49 people were gunned down inside that pulse nightclub in orlando. and today, huge crowds gather there to pay their respects. greg angel is in orlando this afternoon. greg, it has been 12 months now but it is safe to say that the attack is very fresh in that neighborhood there. greg: absolutely. the crowds have been steady since 2:00 this morning. many people turning out to pay their respects. another public remembrance ceremony on the other side of orlando tonight expected to have a crowd of 50,000 people. many people out here

understandably confused. brianne: absolutely, michelle. some are having a tough time starting out today. this is what would happen. get out of the car and walk away from it and leave your car there without paying. but now you want to visit one of these because parking and paying now in effect. along the national mall, free parking now a thing of the past. >> coming back here and seeing paid parking here. a little bit of a shock. >> monday the 90 new pay stations were activated. drivers who parked in one of the 1100 spots around the street surrounding the mall and the monuments have to pay $2 an hour. >> the streets nearby, that's comparable. brianne: drivers can no longer park all day. with the paid parking comes a three-hour time limit. >> it seems steep. three-hour time limit considering how long you have to walk to the mall doesn't give you a lot of time. brianne: often finding parking along the mall can be difficult. they hope this paid par

a firefighter's body camera. that is a split second a house explodes in maine. you see the chief and other firefighters rush to the aid of another firefighter who was close to that explosion. they are all okay. the chief actually posted this video on facebook. he said in the post this incident is a prime example of how things can change in an instant. alison: wow! that is incredible. well, now we turn to new developments in the bill cosby trial today. after calling just one witness and listening to just six minutes of testimony, the defense wrapped up their case. in comparison the prosecution had 12 witnesses and five days of testimony. bill cosby did not take the stand. he entered the courtroom with his wife camille today. this was the first time she made an appearance in court. the jury could get that case later today. a hearing is underway to determine whether 18 penn state fraternity members should stand trial for the hazing death of a

19-year-old tim piazza died after falling down a flighted of stairs following a night of heavy drinking. surveillance video from that night was shown in court today. a detective who investigated the case said he already looked dead as the frat members carried him upstairs the next morning. they are accused of waiting 12 hours before calling for help. michelle: police in montgomery county hope these pictures will help crack a 25-year-old murder case. they don't know who this guy is or even have a name but new technology gave them these pictures from just a blood sample. maryland bureau chief brad bell explains. brad: this may look like the face of a killer who has eluded capture for 25 years. an image gleaned from analysis of d.n.a. blood found at the scene of a murder using a new process that zeros in on physical traits. used for the first time by montgomery county police. >> so instead of treating d.n.a.

treat it like a blueprint of that person. brad: detectives hope the d.n.a. snapshot helps find the man in that image, the man who killed 57-year-old james essel in his sugar loaf mountain market. 1992, the picture shows the old country store had a live bait sign in the window. over the front door, this horseshoe hung for luck was already there. a customer opened door, went inside and found the store's owner stabbed multiple times. murdered. there were clues. the black pontiac fiero spotted in the store's lot. but nothing like this image of a possible suspect imagined at 25 and age progressed to about 50. police hope that people in the area give it some attention. >> maybe remember someone working in the area, someone who used to commute in the area, someone that they saw in the day-to-day travels that looks similar to the individual in this compo

rich? richard: yeah. she was sitting in her car like i am here at tulip at the intersection here when a group of young girls came over. they approached and they asked where the metro is. in the meantime one of the girls went behind the car and started to open up the rear passenger door to try to grab the woman's purse. another girl right here grabbed the stun gun and starts hitting the woman and hitting her with the stun gun. we have video to show you of the neighborhood. this is a very quiet area here. a lot of adults and children walking to school and work. in fact, the woman had just dropped off her kids at a daycare nearby. police say a witness jumped in to help. the girls took off. one of them was caught immediately. four others were hiding around a shed three blocks away. a k9 unit tracked them down. >> according to my teachers who ran out when they heard her, that she was screaming and trying to fight back

afterwards it -- assailabouts. afterword it hit her that she was frightened by what happened. richard: the woman is shaken up but no major injuries. at least five girls are now in custody and they face assault charges. coming up at 6:00, you will hear from a woman who came to her aid seconds after this happened. reporting live, richard reeve, abc7 news. alison: thank you for that. a man and a woman were found dead in vienna. police now believe their deaths were part of a murder-suicide. police found 47-year-old sabrina titus stabbed in her home. she later died at the hospital. a half mile away her ex-husband 53-year-old ralph titus' body was found, an apparent suicide. the couple had two children. they will be cared for by extended family members. two people died in a three-car crash in fauquier county. another person was hurt in this. this happened this morning in

remington. the accidents caused one car to burst into flame and killing the people inside. a third person was flown to the hospital. michelle: a soldier from maryland among three dead in afghanistan where an afghan military member opened fire on his supposed allies. sergeant eric houck from baltimore and two other americans died saturday. houck was 25 years old. authorities in manchester are releasing the new images in connection with the manchester arena bombing. three of the photos show salman abedi, the suicide bomber in a different location just days before that attack. police are hoping someone remembers seeing abedi and will have information about what he was doing. another shows a white nissan micro that may have the bomb components in it. they want to hear from people who may have seen it or seen people approaching it. alison: an eyewitness put a man behind bars for

two decades but he always insisted he was innocent. then it was discovered he had a look alike. it happened to a man in missouri. so, what finally freed him? adrian bankart shows us how it all played out. reporter: this morning a man who says he was wrongfully convicted, imprisoned for 17 years now free after tracking down his own doppelganger. >> i hope and prayed every day for this day to come. overwhelming feeling. >> jones was charged with aggravated robbery in kansas city, kansas, 20 years ago, accused of trying to steal a park. he had an alibi and no d.n.a., fingerprints linked him to the crime. witnesses telling the police it was a light skinned african-american or hispanic man. picking him out of a line-up.

michelle: a warning for police in prince george's county tonight. as the tents go up, so does crime. ryan hughes checked in with the police department and they are seeing a surge of auto thefts. >> look out for the gold chevy impala. ryan: the morning calls with a roll call to get overview of what happened overnight. this shows some of the biggest crime issues. theft from autos. >> the weather is starting to get warm. we have noticed a jump in our theft from autos. ryan: the department is seeing a surge. more than 2300 theft from vehicle cases this year. that is

abc7 rode along with officer jones as the department aggressively works to combat the car break-ins. around 7:55, the first call comes in for theft on seat pleasant drive. officer jones talks to the victim who said he accidently left the window down and door unlocked. his radio, work, clothes, papers all stolen. >> processing the handle there where you can see a thumbprint. it could have been from anyone but we'll pull that. ryan: the thefts are mostly happening overnight. crooks smashing out windows, popping locks and like this case, they are making themselves an easy target. >> most of the time the values are left out in the open. from wallets to laptops. jewelry. even change. >> the thefts are happening so fast. within a matter of seconds. the best way to prevent them is be proactive. that is why the department is cracking down. prince george's county police are adding more patrols on the street and educating the public. >>

take a look at this now. call it divine intervention. a private plane spiraling out of control came crashing steps away from a church that was full of people. the pilot said once he realized once he was going down he saw the church and jerked the plane to avoid hitting the building. he managed to smash through a power pole and slammed through s.u.v. instead. two nurses inside of the church rushed out to his aid. >> i think he was in a state of shock because he was moving, getting anxious. i was telling him just remember to breathe. i know you are anxious and worried. you will be okay. we are here with you. i know god is with him and god was with us too as well. michelle: she believes it's no accident this church was spare and two nurses were in the right place at the right time to help save the pilot's life. alison: we would not want to be on board this one. check out the damage on the shanghai-pound plane that had to return to

john: remember when low-fat foods were all the rage? as we start the 2017 grilling season in the d.c. area, the government is no longer suggesting a low fat diet. one woman is struggling trying to find her favorite lower fat foods. christina atkins looking for her favorite low-fat holdogs and not finding them in my grocery store. >> i'm having a hard time finding a product we used to buy. john: she was buying the hot dogs with lower fat and fewer calories. >> we like hot dogs but try to be conscientious about what we're eating. john: she says not just hot dogs putting the fat back in. she likes johnsonville sausage but can't find the lower fat
