brad? brad: the f.b.i. are going over the crime scene, usings do and looking for anything. they are even climbing the chain link fence looking for pieces hit by bullets. it's an interesting investigation from their perspective. they are looking for physical clues. what they want to know is what was the big clue. why did this guy open fire? at home in illinois, alexandria ballpark shooter james hodgkinson made clear his distaste for donald trump and republicans. >> 99% are getting pushed around. 1% are just not giving a damn. brad: at home he had brushes with the law and had been warned about firing a gun near his home. but he gave no clue he would attempt a mass assassination. >> nothing different in the personality characteristics from the past few weeks

>> mayor alexandria mayor bill eulle met him at the ymca. >> i saw him entering and exiting the sauna, taking a shower. >> others on the bench of the neighborhood and few noticed he was living in the van. often park next to the ballpark where he opened fire. today f.b.i. worked the neighborhood. talking to people who encountered the 66-year-old looking for answers. several telling us no explanation will suffice. >> that is not the way to fix things. >> be civil. be nice to people. brad: tonight three victims are hospitalized in critical condition. and the charity game against democrats for which the republican baseball team was practicing is going on as scheduled. >> america gets bunched, america punch -- when america gets punched, america punches back. this is a great event tonight. it goes to charity. i hope we will have

brad: one more bit of good news tonight. since the story was put together we can tell you that the young lobbyist who was helping out former staffer matt mika who is in the hospital. his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious. for this big ballpark in alexandria we are told that the f.b.i. may be on scene through tomorrow night. in alexandria, brad bell, abc7 news. jonathan: thanks. for the investigation, the f.b.i. says they now recovered two weapons from the scene. one was a .9-millimeter handgun. the other was a 7.62-caliber rifle. heavy load. the f.b.i. says both of the guns were purchased legally from federally licensed gun dealers. for those hurt in yesterday's shooting three as you heard in brad's story are hospitalized. congressman steve scalise still in critical condition after undergoing a third surgery today.

upgraded to serious condition and capitol police officer crystal griner is in good condition. vice president mike pence today visiting griner and thanking her for her bravery. he also met with family members of congressman steve scalise. three others hurt have already been treated and released from the hospital including capitol police officer david bailey. congressional aide zack barth and congressman williams. congressman williams is one of the coaches of the baseball team and he was one of the first to urge that tonight's game go on. nancy chen joining us from nats park. an hour away from the first pitch being thrown. nancy: 7:05 to be exact. the gates opened at 5:30. a half hour ago at nats park. while security is increased here, of course, given what happened yesterday this is still a fun occasion. a good occasion. there is such a storied history to the game. first started of course in 1909.

at that point. raises money for charity. this year they are getting a big boost. before yesterday's shooting about 10,000 tickets had been sold. since then another 10,000 have been sold. right now, that means $1 million for charity. congressman williams who twisted his ankle taking shelter in yesterday's shooting said all the players are looking forward to tonight. it will be a very big night at nats park. while both teams are promising bipartisan unity, one person who will not be here will be president trump. his team saying that simply there wasn't enough time in order to put together the security that was necessary for the commander-in-chief to come out here to nats park. it's going to be a big night as we mentioned. you can watch the game at the entirety. even if you are not coming out here on the sister station newschannel8. coverage begins at 7:00. back in a little bit with what is going on inside the stadium. behind me. i can tell you the excitement is buzzing. but back to you in studio. jonathan: thank you. we have

in newsroom right now. the wife of the man who opened fire at the alexandria ballpark just spoke for the first time from an illinois home. she said that she heard about what happened when an abc reporter called her at her job. >> i cannot believe and i just want you to all go away and leave my neighbors in peace. they don't deserve this. i don't deserve this. my daughters don't deserve all this. jonathan: she wouldn't answer reporters when they asked her if her husband james hodgkinson was consumed by politics? she said hodgkinson had sold everything from his business and said he was going to d.c. to work with people on changing tax brackets. they had been married for almost 30 years. well, it has been a month now since the brawl outside the turkish embassy. remember the pictures? this was an all out me lay. now 20 people are facing criminal charges as a result of that. the fight happened during turkish president erdogan's state visit. today d.c. police charging several member of erdogan's securi

protesters. the victims were kurds and armenians who opposed to turkish government. >> we have not seen this brazen level on the street of washington, d.c. by foreign government, foreign leader's bodyguards no less, ever. jonathan: two u.s. citizens have been arrested. however the rest of the security detail has returned to turkey and turkey is unlikely to extradite them back to the united states. maryland judge now considering whether to throw out beltway sniper lee boyd malvo's life sentence. malvo, who was 17 at the time, pleaded guilty to six counts of murder in maryland and was sentenced to life. his lawyer wants the sentence tossed out because the supreme court ruled that mandatory life sentences for juveniles unconstitutional. maryland prosecutors say that shouldn't apply to mall vo because his sen -- malvo because his sentence was discretionary, not mandatory. d.c. residents mourning the death of long-time city council member jim graham. graham was 71 and represent ward 1 for 16 years before

he was also the whitman-walker aids clinic for director, a position he held for 15 years. >> jim was everything we needed in the beginning of the epidemic. he was tough. he was smart. he was difficult. he demanded answers. he demanded action. jonathan: there is no cause of death being given yet. it was announced. but friends say graham had been in poor health for several months and been in the hospital more often than he had been out of it. we do continue to follow a developing story out of mount erie. this is where a fire consumed a 10,000-acre business, 10,000 square foot business. images show the crews battling the flames and trying to make sure it didn't spread to surrounding homes. you saw how close the homes were. no reports of injuries and so far police and fire have done a nice job of keeping the fire contained. a massive fire more than a dozen people killed and now a new twist in the investigation in london. look at this. a

jonathan: check out this video. you see the woman hanging off the side of the car? the car is dragging her down the santa ana freeway in california. she refused to let go for hundreds of feet. the reason? road rage. witnesses say the woman being dragged got out of her car and started to beat on the black car's windows. that is when the driver took off. she wouldn't let go. final she did. she was not hurt. not a smart move. now must-see video. at first this is nondescript. cars traveling down the highway. just what you would see at night. but the dash cam is rolling and it changes in a hurry. watch. [tiring screeching] that is a wrongway driver. you can see how fast everybody was going. amazingly the driver who shot the video escaped without serious injury. for wrongway driver he jumped out and ran. police still have not caught up with him yet. they did find drug parafa nailia in the car and

jonathan: this was some scene in wisconsin. fiery crash. u.s. open golf tournament is where it happened. that was the backdrop. witnesses said they saw an advertising blimp flying overhead and it began to burn and rapidly deflate. crashed in a field about a half mile from the golf course. the pilot was seriously burned. nobody else on the ground was hurt. nobody on board besides that pilot which is a fortunate thing. update on a deadly apartment fire in london. the criminal investigation is underway to determine what caused the 24-story high-rise aparm to be consumed by -- apartment to be consumed by fire. the death toll right now is at 17 but they expect the number to rise because they say 100-plus people are still missing.
