others. jonathan: kevin lewis and stephen tschida monitoring the conditions but we start with doug. warnings over the beltway now. it was intense for a mu minutes. doug: it is. still very intense rainfall. we saw the light go out behind me. that was the exmir ration of 4:00 straight up, the -- expiration of the 4:00, straight up. but still heavy storms in the region and they will be monitored. additional thunderstorm warnings could be issued in spots at any moment. this is a large area under severe thunderstorm watches this afternoon. we see on the doppler radar, the heaviest amount of the storms now is just over northeast washington. north toward western baltimore suburbs where the lightning and torrential rains are located. individual thunderstorms south and southwest. more south of fredericksburg and more downstream. most of the lightning past the metro area we'll still have quite a bit of heavy rain for some time to come here across the area. much needed rain i might add as we have had very little to any rainfall over the area since the first of the month of june. new severe t

where the montgomery county fire rescue reporting a lightning strike has caused a house fire on oak ridge avenue. countywide, montgomery county, responding to a good number of wires, trees and branches down. storms county wide at this hour. some areas with heavy downpours. we first started seeing the ominous clouds around 2:00. that is when the wind started picking up a bit. around 3:15 is when we hit some rainfall at first in gaithersburg. we have seen bolts of lightning and certainly loud rumble of thunder. but no pooling of water. it's my understanding montgomery county is under a flash flood warning. we haven't seen any serious issues just yet. stephen tschida in stormtrak7 in northwest. what are you seeing from your perspective?

stephen: we are heading north on connecticut avenue crossing the bridge heading up connecticut. right now rain coming down steadily but lightly. half hour ago, the clouds really darkened. the wind picked up. and then it came down heavily about 15 minutes ago for a short period. then immediately lightened up. the wind has died down. and as you can see the sky is a bit lighter as well. the rain still coming down here in northwest d.c. let's get back to doug hill in the stormwatch7 weather center. doug: thanks. across the area even though most of the heavy weather, strongest wind gust and lightning moved out there is more rain coming for district and the metro area. gardens and the yards will be happy but the heaviest concentration of the heavy rain and electrical activity, lightning northeast of the area all the way to the bay. that is where the severe thunderstorm warning has shifted. let's pull back and show you what we have on a larger picture on doppler radar.

mcdonald's where she ate early in the morning on sunday. it's behind me. in ramadan, muslims fast in the daylight hours so that is why she was here in overnight hours. with a group of 16 friends. they walked this way on drainsville road but only made it less than a half mile that way, back to the mosque. when a crime happened according to police. this is video here. the suspect is darwin torres. according to the police he followed a group in a red car. he got out of the car with a baseball bat, everyone ran but she fell. ultimately dumped her body in a pond not far from near and close to the apartment where he lives at. he is charged with murder this afternoon. nabra's family is trying to come to grips with this. they were receiving a lot of support earlier today while we were there. although the police are not investigating this as a hate

police say he sexual assaulted a woman after he went to sneaking in a rosslyn apartment building, went door to door knocking until somebody opened the door. if you nethis guy the police want to hear from you. nancy: also new at 4:00, what was originally believed to be a barricade situation after a robbery has turned into a manhunt. hyattsville police say nobody was left inside. roads surrounding the restaurant, though, on annapolis road were closed off while police moved in this afternoon. the employee who saw the robbery, well, never saw the suspect actually leave. that is why s.w.a.t. teams took extra precautions. jonathan: the three men accused of killing two northwest high school students will not be freed anytime soon. the two victims gunned down in the car, the night before they were set to graduate high school. maryland bureau chief brad bell with new develops. brad? brad: this afternoon we had a bond review hearing that is required by the law. the three defendants appeared via closed circuit television

without bond. a judge of each of them said what they did showed there was planning involved and it was over-kill and a brutal crime. the victims in this case, of course, the two young high school students were getting ready graduate from northwest high two weeks ago. they were ambushed. 30 shots fired from three guns. one victim hit four times. the other ten times. well, police asked last week for help. we did the story and we asked the community for help on behalf of the police. they got a tip friday night and they were able to link three suspects to the crime. the police are saying that the motive was revenge. one of the young victims nejjar, an honor student on his way to college had himself gotten involved in the

jonathan: big ruling from the supreme court. sex offenders can use facebook if they're not committing a crime. we have reaction. >> the supreme court ruled on a north north carolina law to kp sexual predators away from sites that children might use but the court ruled it's unconstitution the only bar an offender from using social media together. >> the sex offender is a sex offender. they should put the children first. >> the high court found it believes there is a difference between the virtual venue, twitter and facebook. and actual venues like playground. >> we need to do something about that.

the state district were unconstitutionally drawn to benefit republicans. it would decide how far they can go to redraw the districts. they will hear the case when the term begins this fall. several people said it hurt chances of electing candidates in western congressional district. talking about the supreme court, also this. major decision to help keep the redskins name intact. they are saying the government can't refuse to register trademarks offensive. it's ruled in favor of slants. they were denied because it has disparaging speech toward asians and the same reasoning was used to revoke some trademark held by the redskins. with 40 pet recalls this year

industrial processing equipment that caused the dogs to get sick. last week we pressed united pet group on the issue to suspect the privately labeled brands were involved and they refused to answer questions. turn our attention to the weather. doug: the heaviest lightning and thunder is moved out of washington bearing down to baltimore. there are additional periods of rain for the next hour or two. we are sitting better off in metro area. we need rain. we are getting some. some area got quite a bit. the large area in pink is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 8:00. this stretches all the way to mained the northern canadian border. huge area affected by the cold front. a little area here in yellow and orange is the area da is still under severe thunderstorm warning now. it's all shifted east to

the chesapeake by bay. there are still showers and storms southwest to southeast of fredericksburg. we are not finished with it yet. more rain. the core has moved northeast of the city. severe thunderstorm to 4:45. so anne arundel county will get the heart of this to the next 20 minutes or so. we are looking to the southwest for the next batch of storms. moving .421 to manassas, fairfax, the district around 5:00. eventually to the east side of side in chillum in prince george's county at 5:04. lightning with that but not as much as the other cells. this will turn into beneficial rain. in the meantime farther south. from fredericksburg. this area of the storms will cross fairview

come across to big bend, potomac, all potomac, allen fresh in st. mary's county and drum point. we have a lot to keep an eye on here as we get through the next hour or two. the main organized line moved through the d.c. metro already. in leesburg with the storms 1.84 inches of rain. 1.70 in frederick. 1.5 in clarksburg. 1.35 in perryville. it's dropped dramatically from the mid-to-upper 80's. but the feels like temperature went from the mid-90's to the 60's like that when the storm went through. the future cast continues to keep rain over the area. even the significant rainfall through 7:30. but the heaviest, the nastiness is well removed from the area before skies start to clear later tonight. flash flood watch in effect continues until 9:00 tonight for wide area in green. flash flood warning south and southwest. forecast overnight all the storms will be gone.

weather. up and down the east coast, if you have travel plans or are expecting anyone in from new york city from boston, philadelphia, we have the severe thunderstorm watches from richmond to the district, philly to new york city and up toward boston. then when you see the orange pocket, those are the severe thunderstorm warnings. now a newly issued severe thunderstorm warning across southern maryland. this is where we have it now. st. mary's county. we move to southern calvert county with a stronger cell. the good news, montgomery county, you are now out of the watch area. the storm system or the system in general, the cold front generally moves to the east. head in a little bit off toward the d.c. metro area. this is the heavy rain we saw right over the white house in to dupont and logan and woodly park. now moving to the berkland area and eventually up toward the college park area. heavy rain will eventually impact parent of the beltway. if it has not impacted the beltway across northeastern part of the quadrant. head to the t
