alison: it's hard to believe but july 4th is around the corner. today fairfax county firefighters took time to make sure everyone has a safe holiday. they do this every year and they demonstrate the dangers of fireworks. sam sweeney shows us how devastating an accident can be. sam more than 10,000 people will go to emergency room for firework related injury. the majority of the incidents happen in july. >> if you use illegal fireworks the potential for injury to yourself, to your neighbors is significant. >> kids between the ages of 5 and 9 had the highest rate of injury and death. common myth is the bigger fireworks are dangers but most show up from sparkleer burns. today the firefighters demonstrated the danger. >> if the child waves

announcer: you're watching "abc7 news at 4:00". on your side. jonathan: air force f-16 part of the thunderbirds crashed at an air show in dayton ohio. nancy: for the latest on this, go to nathan edwards from the sister station wkef. nathan, what is the latest on this? nathan: a passenger and another taken to the hospital. they were alert and talking to the emergency crews at the scene. the emergency crews are still on the runway blocking the thunderbird jet. it actually flipped on the top trapping the pilots inside. i took hours to get them out. the air force said it was a practice flight ahead of the weekend air show. the weather hasn't been ideal for flying. it's been wet and windy all day. so we d
