>> now, abc 7 news at 6:30, on your side. >> murdered on the beltway. prince george's county police call on witnesses to come forward tonight after a man was shot to death inside his car and left for dead on the side of the highway. good evening. i'm kimberly suiters. investigators believe the father of four is an innocent victim. tonight, the gunman is still out there. ryan hughes is live with more on what happened. have police received any tips at all? well, they tell us they have not received any tips. one of the major challenges here, they did not receive any 911 calls after that shooting last night. they say they do not have a suspect or a vehicle description, but they are confident someone on the beltway last night had to see something. this afternoon, we spoke to the victim's daughter. she says her father does not have any enemies. she was in new york city for a girl's weekend when she got that dreaded phone call early

person. he wouldn't do anything to no one. ryan: in the 19-year-old doesn't have any tears left. she cried all morning after getting a call at 3:00 a.m. her father was found murdered inside his car on the beltway. >> i didn't know what to say. ryan: around 11:55 last night, prince george's county police saw the white grand marquis stopped in traffic on the outer loop, just past the pennsylvania avenue exit. behind the wheel, officers found -- an officer found at rihanna long break -- found adriano lombre shot to death. >> this is not something that has happened in recent years. lombre was shot multiple times. right now they believe he is an innocent victim. >> this is a very fresh case. obviously we don't believe that our victim was the

this incident. ina tells us her dad had a card game at his house in upper marlboro last night and was heading home from dropping a friend off in d.c. when he was killed. his car has a date -- distinctive decal "skins fan for life." >> if you know anything or if there was a suspect, like, please call the police. shots hitall those the driver's side of lombre's ca r. police believe the suspect was also traveling in the northbound lane. tonight, they are asking anyone on the beltway between 11:00 last night and midnight, if you saw anything, any little detail, call police right away. live tonight in palmer park, ryan hughes, abc 7 news. kimberly: no detail is too small. new

ending a little after 5:00 in a busy spot near national park. it all happened in the navy yard neighborhood near 4th and m street southeast. q, i understand you just got off the phone with police. qa i did: -- q: i did. the scene was cleared about 45 minutes or so ago, but we do have some video footage to show you what it looked like then. i just got off the phone with u.s. park police. this all happened around 4:00. that's when one of the officers was trying to make a routine traffic stop and pull over a car , but the car sped off. instead of giving chase, the officer let the car go. apparently as he was driving around the neighborhood, he saw the same car he was trying to pull over abandoned and the suspect walking away from it. so, the officer ran after the suspect on foot, caught the person, arrested

in this area -- again, we are in navy yard here. a lot of people were out and about at that time. they heard the screeching of tires. they heard the helicopter overhead. they saw the canines sniffing for clues. they say it reminded them of an incident that made national headlines about two years ago. >> honestly, since the navy yard shooting a couple years ago, you do think about, something is going on in the neighborhood, it's definitely not normal. something bad is happening or something not safe is happening. this is a developing news story. once we get more information about the suspect, his name, we will let you know as soon as possible. until then, that the latest from navy yard -- that's the latest from navy yard. kimberly: thanks for the update. now, in southeastern pennsylvania, a gas explosion leveled a home. the blast left a gaping hole in the street.

home got out safely, but one utility worker has died. three others were injured, one critically. we will keep an i on this story throughout the night -- keep an eye on this story throughout the night. repairs on a broken water main on baltimore avenue finished a little after 3:00 this afternoon. they got the call for the break in the 88-year-old hype just before 11:00 -- 88-year-old pipe just before 11:00 last night. they handed out water until the repairs were finished. be eitherreat day to poolside or in some air conditioning, but a few pop-up showers just passed through. skies really darkened over both of our reporters, q and ryan. josh: it really is just this one shower, but it had some really heavy downpours wrapped up in it. now i'

in laurel, those skies nice and dark there as well. let me take you to the big board and show you what's going on. we are watching as this one shower makes its way across the region. it did go over the golf tournament, also bringing some rain right around the metro area. let's zoom in closer. this is over the last two hours. there's not any lightning with it. some reds, yellows, oranges, showing us we have some heavy rain at times. along queen anne, right 50. this storm, not really all that powerful. the top of the thunderstorm around 25,000 feet. they have to get quite a bit taller before we see any lightning and really heavy rain or gusty winds. 92 for d.c. 96 in quantico. still a hot evening. not quite as muggy tonight. but even hotter tomorrow. more on that and the chance for storms on the fourth, coming up. kimberly:

have you seen this video yet?we are wondering what you think about it . it is altered video of donald trump taking down a man covered by a cnn logo. logo fors a "fnn" "fraud" news network. it has some accusing the president of inciting violence against the media. this presidential tweet causing outrage sunday. president trump sharing a mock video showing him pummeling a man in a business suit outside of a wrestling ring. the man's face obscured by a cnn logo. the clip ends with a logo that says "fraud news network." republican reaction varies. >> it's unfortunate. people are now begging the president not to do this. >> i'm pretty proud of the president for developing a twitter and social media platform where he can talk directly to the american people. >>

cnn issuing a statement saying, quote, "it is a sad day when the president of the united states encourages violence against reporters. clearly sarah huckabee sanders lied when she said the president had never done so." the press secretary -- deputy press secretary responded thursday to a question about trump's twitter attacks. >> the president in no way, form, or fashion has ever promoted or encouraged violence. if anything, quite the contrary. >> this latest twitter attack comes as president trump has publicly scorned the media for several days, amidst a backlash to his attacks on "morning joe's" cohosts. he defended his own social media habit, tweeting, quote, "it's not presidential. it's modern-day presidential." >> this is not modern-day presidential. flew overrn-day "one the cuckoo's nest."

he is facing first and third degree murder charges after, police say, he shot an 18-year-old in the head in a case of road rage. the two had tried to merge into a single lane. it was caught on camera. the district attorney's office said they found the dented red pickup truck and the handgun believed to be used in the crime. roberson had just graduated from high school and was days away from college orientation. coming up on abc 7 news, throwing a dart at an asteroid? masses plan to redirect the threat -- nasa's plan to redirect the threat. plus, josh is tracking sweltering summer temps.

firefight quite a tough battle this morning. the fire damaged at least four homes. so far, no injuries have been reported. about 80 firefighters were called out to battle that fire. >> they need to maintain their hydration so they can go on to the next alarm. kimberly: we still don't know at this hour what started that fire. to throw a dart at an asteroid, double asteroid redirection test. a spacecraft the size of a refrigerator that would be used to knock an asteroid off course. nasa is working with the johns hopkins applied physics lab on dark. they hope -- on dart. they hope to have it ready by october, 2022, when an asteroid system is set to make an approach near earth. that's amazing. josh: it really is incredible and nice to know. the reason why they would want to do that was to

that they would be able to. kimberly: we just saw two of our reporters out and about with very dark skies, wet pavement. josh: it's been quite an afternoon. there was a slim chance for a downpour. of course, one popped up and moved right through the metro area. what you will see if you look to the top, right-hand side of your screen, you will see a rain shaft that works its way past the area. let me put that into motion. finally, a little bit more sunshine tries to sneak back into the picture. that did dump some heavy rain in a few places. -- droppedck temperatures in some places. potomac at 78. silver spring at 78. largo also down to 78. 88 first springfield. a very hot evening on top. here is that rain over the last two hours, working its way from loudoun county through the golf tournament, now in billy -- bowie and over toward annapolis.

heavy rain wrapped up in that system. let's run through the futurecast, looking pretty good as we get through the evening. a slim chance for an overnight shower, but that's about all that's going on. fast forward into monday, i think we are going to see a lot more sunshine and there is going to be that very slim chance for an isolated shower. it pops up into southern maryland. most of us are dry. most of the day is dry. like today, can't completely rule it out. temperatures are going to be in the low- to mid-90's. we could certainly see something fire up. we get a better chance as we fast-forward into tuesday. by the time we get around 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, some rain does start to fire up. it won't be for everybody. it won't last all day long. a lot of folks doing stuff outside, something to keep in mind. tomorrow, temperatures up to around 93 degrees. another hot day, but not too muggy. we will look for the humidity to bump up as we work our way
