people just because they're journalists and that's really scary. >> matt, aren't we watching a familiar ritual play out here? the president does or says something provokement and establishment of media voices outraged and meanwhile, the president's base either shrugs it off or cheers him on. is this any different to your mind? >> well, you're right. the president continues to do things that are very provocative and beneath the office. i mean i think it has had a dramatic effect since inauguration day. if you think about the president, he got 46% of the vote. today his job approval rating is 37% which means there's been a deterioration of people that support him but more importantly, for the president politically, more -- almost 50% of the country strongly disapproves of this president and much of that rise has been his own self-inflicted wounds over the course of his presidency. >> cokie -- >> of course, a huge part of the country also disapproves of the

still face potential threats from isis. don't forget the militants have created franchises in other countries and they've managed to agitate and recruit online. inspiring the kind of attacks we've seen from san bernardino to london. amy. >> all right, ian, thank you. and now to that fatal road rage incident that happened in pennsylvania. it left a teenage girl dead and the suspect is now behind bars after turning himself in. abc's diane macedo is here with those details. good morning, diane. >> reporter: amy, good morning. bianca roberson's family was in tears as prosecutors announced the man accused of killing her is behind bars. now, roberson was preparing for her freshman year at college when police say she was gunned down over a traffic merge and prosecutors now say this was calculated. the alleged road rage killer accused of gunning down a teenager on a highway outside philadelphia is behind bars. >> this is the story of a savage and senseless murder. >> reporter: a massive three-day manhunt for 18-year-old bianca roberson's killer came to an end

authorities say 28-year-old david desper turned himself in and was charged with first degree murder. >> somebody didn't want her to merge into a lane of traffic and because of that a young woman is dead today. >> reporter: this picture from a highway traffic camera shows bianca roberson's car and a red pickup truck jockeying for position as they merged in traffic. that's when police say desper took out his handgun and shot the recent high school graduate in the head. investigators released video surveillance collected from homes and businesses nearby. it shows a red truck driving away from the scene. police say they located that truck after desper surrendered and also searched the suspect's home where they discovered the handgun allegedly used to kill roberson. now, police say this is not a hate crime. simply an act of road rage. desper is now being held out bail. as for the family, dan, they say the arrest hasn't eased their pain. bianca was just days away from attending her college

>> what a disaster for that family. thank you very much. colorado, a flight landing at denver's airport erupted in flames and all the passengers got out safely but now, of course, there are questions about what caused this fire and abc's gio benitez is right here with the story. gio, good morning to you. >> reporter: the fire starting just as this commercial jet landed on the tarmac causing chaos and panic and when you see this video, it's simply incredible that nobody was hurt. take a look at this frightening video. flames shooting out of a commercial jet's engine sunday. >> it's 5869. we're observing flames from here. >> tower, i see 4751. they've got a crj on fire. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: ryon, 1 of the 59 passengers forced to pile onto the tarmac. >> they were urging others to move quickly. >> reporter: the united express flight operated by skywest from aspen had just landed in denver when the engine seen here caught fire. >> it's not a brake fire at all. he's dumping fire out

compartment of the engine. >> reporter: one woman snapping this photo moments after. the five dozen passengers gazing at the scene as firefighters rush in dousing the flames. and skywest telling us this morning all of those passengers deplanned safely thank goodness but no doubt the investigation is just beginning into what caused that fire in the first place. dan, amy. >> not what you want when you take a trip. gio, thank you very much. >> thanks, gio. now to bear attacks in alaska. six of them in just the past two weeks including one where this young boy single-handedly saved had is family from a charging bear. abc's matt gutman has nose details for us, good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, amy. two of those attacks you just mentioned have been deadly. that boy just 12 years old may have saved his family and himself from adding to that statistic as the brown bear barreled through two of elliott clark's family members. he was face to snout with the bear but the kid stopped the bear with his shotgun.

elliott clark is being called a hero for rescuing his family from a heart-stopping attack by an enormous brown bear. clark and his family were on a fishing trip outside juneau two weeks ago when the massive beast charged slamming into his uncle and grandfather. the preteen's fight or flight instincts kicking in firing his shotgun at the animal wounding it, he and his uncle then killing it. last week in anchorage another young boy got a rude and terrifying awakening. >> it sound like a cannon burst through and hit straight past my ear. >> reporter: a black bear crashing through his window in the middle of the night. >> i shot up, i screamed. i turned on my light and run. >> reporter: his mom said sleeping below the shattered window zach survived without a scratch. though the wild intruder did leave behind these deep gouges in his bedroom wall. these clashes with nature part of what appears to be a spike in bear encounters across alaska. six

two of those attacks deadly. including one in which a 16-year-old boy was killed by a bear while running in a popular race. >> he said there's a bear and from the sounds on the phone it appeared that an attack was taking place right then. >> reporter: now, two fatalities in two weeks is incredibly unusual. there have been only six fatalities in the previous 130 years, so what's going on? wildlife officials say it could be a combination of increasing human outdoor activity in alaska, higher population in alaska, coupled with mild winters there which have apparently increased the bear population. so more bears, more people. unfortunately equals more interactions. amy. >> thanks so much. i just got back from alaska and that's what everyone was talking about. we did a couple of excursions in the woods and everybody had bear spray and strict instructions to follow -- to avoid any possible conflict but it's scary out there sometimes. >> you have to be carefu

nearly 30 wildfires flameing across the west causing evacuations and that intense heat keeps hitting the southwest with triple digits in the forecast and hundreds of severe storm warnings from the plains to the northeast meanwhile, so it's a busy weather weekend. >> it is indeed but we begin with the disappearance of that young scholar studying at the university of illinois. a former student from that same university is now in custody and due in court today and abc's alex perez is in chicago with all of the latest on that. good morning, alex. >> reporter: hey, good morning, amy. investigators say it was a forensic search of the suspect's cell phone that helped them crack this case. this morning, brendt christensen, a former grad student set to appear in federal court charged with the kidnapping of 26-year-old yingying zhang, a visiting scholar from china. the surveillance video from june 9th capturing the last time zhang was seen alive. apparently getting into christensen's car whom she did not know. investigators believe she

was running late for an appointment and had just missed the city bus. according to a criminal complaint after first saying he did not recall his whereabouts on the day zhang disappeared the fbi says christensen later told them he offered her a ride but let her out after she became panicked when he said he made a wrong turn. >> everybody is stunned. i've gotten many, many e-mails from graduate students and faculty expressing disbelief and complete surprise. >> reporter: law enforcement say after searching christensen's phone they discovered he had recently visited a web forum called abduction 101 containing the subthreads perfect abduction fantasy and planning a kidnapping. the fbi allegedly capturing him on audio surveillance explaining how he kidnapped zhang, brought her back to his apartment hen otherwise held her against her will. >> the entire family is very, very devastated. >> reporter: investigators have not yet found the graduate student's body. her famy

distraught. >> very devastated just because everyone was really trying to spread awareness of what happened and trying to get her found. >> reporter: and the local newspaper is reporting the suspect even attended a vigil for zhang after she was reported missing. investigators are now following up on this case and trying to get whatever information possible. we're going to send it back to you, amy. >> incredibly disturbing and so sad, let's bring in former fbi former agent and abc news consultant brad garrett for more. we just heard alex reporting there that there are reports the suspect may have attended a vigil for the victim. how unusual is that? >> not unusual at all, amy. in fact, suspects attend funerals, they actually go on searches of people they have killed and so the idea that he would go to a wake memorial gathering of hers just does not surprise me. >> brad, not surprising at all, i mean police moved very quickly

their suspect extremely quick. >> lucky because he was driving the car that there's a low volume type car in. his particular community. identified the car, went to him. he actually gave them concept to search and did a voluntary interview initially. and then they captured this video that alex talked about where he apparently admitted abducting her so the real key is where is she and hopefully they're on the trail to finding her. >> certainly the family hoping for that answer, indeed. a lot of evidence as you mentioned. the surveillance video and this audio that describes him holding her against her will. >> think about the websites that he was going to, amy, about fantasy abductions, kidnappings, this kid must have been into some real bizarre fetish stuff i would assume based on the website he went to so who knows where this is going to lead as far as what was his real motivation. >> again, an incredibly disturbing story. we hope her family gets the answers they need to k

while her mother was fighting stage 4 brain cancer. the tv host first experienced symptoms a few months ago telling "people" magazine she had been getting light-headed on set and having headaches and adding my speech had gotten slurred and i was having difficulty reading the teleprompter. an mri revealed she had a golf ball-size tumor pushing on her facial nerves and the complex surgery to remove it was june 8th. her 39th birthday. 99.9% of that tumor was removed. the doctor tells her it was benign and after six days in the hospital she is now back home telling "people" magazine she's getting better. this is something that takes at least a month of healing but i'm getting stronger and stronger every day. and she tells "people." it caused her to re-evaluate her life and brought her family closer together and she's lucky she went to the doctor and raised the alarm on this. >> thank you. let's get it out to amy who is outside with gio. >> all right, dan,

it burns through the straw and goes from there to this in less than 30 seconds. this is the time when you do want to use water so keep a garden hose or a bucket of water handy. >> all right, gio, i see you have a wire bristle brush in your hand. i clean mine with that but there's something you should know before you start. >> that's right because sometimes these wire bristles can actually end up in the barbecue. you want to make sure it's not in there and didn't fall off and get in there. get a damp cloth and just wipe it all down, get it clean. >> that's a good tip then you also say there are some things you have actually that in your own home to easily clean the grill. >> i'm gearing up for this one. >> tell us how to clean it. >> so listen you got aluminum foil. everybody has it. just roll it up into a little ball and make sure it's warm and make sure it's not too hot but just put it on there. get tongs and scrub it down, make sure it's warm but not too hot. you
