we have information on the website, go to wjla.com. live look now on a cloudy, humid day in d.c. if you walked outside at some point today you know being a sponge feels like. the extreme heat is wrapping up. but we are wrapping the chance for isolatedded rain and thunderstorms to move in the area. michelle: let's get to stormwatch7's steve rudin for the timeline for all of this. steve? steve: the clouds are beginning to increase and thicken over the national harbor. the skies are getting darker. this is the camera looking toward old town alexandria. where are the showers right now? mainly south of d.c. over manassas, over toward the waldorf area. here is the southern portion of the capital beltway near springfield. we will head in a little bit closer. all this slowly, slowly starting to drift off toward the north. so if you have the plans in old town alexandria or downtown d.c. in the next hour or so, bring the umbrella with you because you are likely to see wet weather. here is the forecast as we move through the evening hours. temperatures slowly fall in the 70's. after that, the temperatures are not going to

the overnight. we are timing and tracking showers and thunderstorms for day tomorrow. we will likely have an impact on the morning and the evening rush hour commutes. more on that coming up in a few minutes. jonathan: thank you very much. terrifying instance in prince george's county. a 14-year-old boy playing with some sort of fireworks in the backyard and it exploded in his hand. michelle: this young boy was just in the ninth grade. he lost fingers as a result of the terrible accident. we understand that someone threw the fireworks at him. richard reeve has the latest on the investigation. >> i don't even know what a cherry bomb is but i know it's dangerous. richards spent fireworks, some labeled explosive littered the sidewalk not far from where the 14-year-old boy was terribly injured. >> you heard a boom and all the kids start running. you heard scream like "help, help." richard: raphael looked on in horror as someone tossed a lit firework at the boy. it blew up in his right hand and set his shirt on f

aftermath is a huge mess. trash and debris scattered throughout part of the city. the head foreman of minor elementary school says he has been on clean-up duty for 23 years. he says people need to realize what gets left behind after the light show. jonathan: new york city is mourning one of the finest tonight. horrible story here. officer miosotis familia was ambushed while working the midnight shift in the bronx. mother of three, shot in the police r.v. stationed in the area after previous shootings. >> she was on duty. serving this city, protecting people. doing what she believed in. doing the job she loved. after the shocking and the sudden attack, the fellow officers came to her aid immediately. jonathan: familia's partner radioed for help and other officers chased down the killer. the man was shot and killed in police with a shootout that left a bystander wounded. michelle

florida, when a man drove a car with propane tanks into an apartment building. he did it on purpose after having an argument with his girlfriend who lived in that building. there were five people inside at the time including ad to her. everyone survived except for the driver of the car. jonathan: there is new details now on monday's escape and recapture of an undocumented immigrant in loudoun county. michelle: we now learned that marlo danilo rivas-mendez was deported five times between 2007 and last year. recently rivas-mendez was arrested for public intoxication. in transport he complained the handcuffs were too tight. when the driver stopped so the officers could loosen them, rivas-mendez ran off. before he is deported a sixth time, rivas-mendez will face charges related to the escape. jonathan: u.s. congressman now stirred up a huge controversy in his visit to poland. the backlash is over a selfie video that he posted on youtube. some called it bizarre and

disgusting. >> actual cans used to kill 1.1 million innocent civilians. jonathan: that is republican louisiana representative clay higgins recording a five-minute video in a tour of auschwitz. the nazi concentration camp, one of the largest. at one point higgins recording while inside the gas chamber. higgins says the video is evidence why the u.s. needs to stay vigilant about national security. several holocaust memorial groups called it disrespectedful. michelle: there is work at the interest of 23ard and out eads street. the plan will add designated right turn lane from northbound eads to 23rd and it will eliminate several parking spaces. it calls for right turn lane on the southbound side and that will remove a bike share station. jon

it's great for the toe path but on the rocks you want to have good grip underneath you. >> 7-year-old alex and his mother hiked the trail today and they were ready. >> it's kind of dangerous. you might slip and fall in the water. josh: it might not be the first thing you think of but rescues on the billy goat trail happen from the water. >> it's easier to extricate them from a both than to carry them down the difficult climb of the trail. josh: we got to go along with the teams that practice swift water rescue. in the last two weeks alone 20 mikers needed emergency help with everything from dehydration to broken ankles. that means at least eight responders and four boats are on the water. sometimes people have to be hoisted out by helicopter. >> bring water. just be careful when you are walking. watch your footing. realize it's not just stroll down the street. this is a rugged trail. >> josh knighted, abc7 news --

michelle: i can't believe people do it in the platform shoes. jonathan: a trail to watch your footing and use your hands. people think they don't need to and that is when they get in trouble. steve: depending on your location you may be looking at rain at this time. take you outside. this is the view from belle haven country club across the river from national harbor. the rain drops on the lens. the rain is beginning to move in from the south. become heavy at times as we move through the next half hour to 45 minutes or so. southern edge or the half of the beltway where the wet weather is located at this time. head to montgomery county and up to frederick county. widely scattered showers. head in closer to the heaviest rain. capital beltway over here. old town alexandria and national harbor. you are looking at a heavier downpour.

you what is going on with how tall it is. 20,000 feet. not a tremendous amount. make it no lightning to speak of with this. you won't see anything severe. but heavier downpours are hikely for the next half hour -- likely for the next half hour and 45 minutes as the storm slowly inches its way farther north. it will take time to move on unit of here. feels like temperatures this hour at 88 degrees. cooling down a little bit at reagan national airport. we had heavier rains this afternoon. culpeper feels like now just around 75 degrees. this evening if you have outdoor plans keep an umbrella handy. if you are contemplating eating dinner outside you might want to change that to move indoors. temperatures fall from the lower 80's to 80 by 9:00. the hourly forecast overnight inside capital beltway around 75 degrees. it will be cooler northern and western superbs, the upper 60's to the lower 70's. pay close attention to this. this is the future cast. fres
