their planned rally in charlottesville. at the center of it all come a statue to confederate icons. q mccray joins us at the rally. a lot of concern, but things have calmed down? q: the protests and rally ended about an hour ago. is this robert edward lee statue. before the statue, some chaos. look and listen. >> please move from the front of the statue. you will be arrested. [yelling] q: you are looking at some of the counter protesters here today. of them were arrested for prohibiting the kkk from rallying and protesting at a park two blocks away called justice park. we are still trying to find out how many people were arrested. as for the protests

itself, there were about 3, 4 dozen ku klux klan members, but there were about a thousand if not more counter protesters from black lives matter and other religious groups in charlottesville. the reason for all of this, one side wants the robert e lee statue taken down, the other does not. what's listen. if people don't like our history, we kindly ask you to leave america. we don't go into other people's countries and take down their monuments, so why should we take down ours? >> everybody has a right to free speech, not hate speech. i don't agree with anything they have to say. q: you are looking at the robert e. lee statue. another issue that has members of the kkk upset is the part where the statue is located was once called lee park. its name has since been changed to emancipation park. as for the

will be made in december 2 tear the statue down or leave it where it is. live from charlottesville, va, i'm q mccray, kim, back to you. kimberly: the statue is now a target for vandals. red paint was splashed on the statue at some point overnight. yesterday, somebody covered parts of it in black spray paint. a city worker did some repairs this morning before the rallies began. a mane story ion bowie, accused of killing his stepfather and leading the police on a chaotic chase. this happened when a body was found inside of the home. minutes later the police spotted the suspect near fedex field. the chase ended when the suspect's car stalled a block from the crime scene. richard reeve joins us from this scene. rich, the man apparently posted pictures of himself with his stepfa

richard: yeah, that is correct. a hero wing situation both for the family and law enforcement. the 67-year-old man is dead come his own stepson the accused killer. he tweeted out what the police say he had done. a family overcome with grief after a domestic murder in their home. >> a sad situation, a terrible situation. richard: the victim, a 65-year-old man, sources say choke to death by his own stepson. that i hard to fathom saw him yesterday and i'm not seeing him today. it's heartbreaking. richard: the police received a 911 call from inside the home about 8 a.m. saturday. arriving officers found the man inside the garage. after getting a description of the stepson, they issued a lookou

vehicle and apprehended the individual. richard: moments later officers spotted the vehicle near fedex field. they pursued it on route 214, where one cruiser collided with an unrelated vehicle. the stepson eventually returned around the corner from the murder scene. after his vehicle stalled come he bailed out on foot and officers caught him. >> i don't understand why people are finding themselves in a place where they are resolving a dispute with a death. richard: even more shocking, the stepson tweeted pictures of himself lying next to the body of his deceased stepfather. family members said they had a tense relationship with verbal and physical disputes. >> i've seen the sheriff come there before, but i do not think it was anything as serious as this to happen. richard: the police have requested the tweets and images to be taken down.

investigation stay the -- say the stepson was charged with murder in a previous case in 2006. he is now being interrogated by homicide detectives. he could be charged with murder as soon as tomorrow. bowie, richard reeve, abc 7 news. kimberly: another murder in prince george's county, this one in chillum. a man was found shot to death on cypress creek drive. no word on a suspect or motive. a deadly week in print so this county. a man was shot to death on the beltway last saturday. 10 people have been killed in the county since then. one of those cases was considered self-defense, but the others are all classified as murders. president trump headed back to the u.s. right now after spending two days at the g 20 summit in germany. that summit was messed with fierce protests from the outside and some critical meetings inside.

face-to-face today with china's president amid growing tensions with north korea. a very substantial problem we all face, a problem that something has to be done about. kimberly: shortly before that meeting with china's president, the u.s. military engaged in a shoe of force over the korean peninsula. bombers flew side-by-side with south korean and japanese fighter jets. the mission followed north korea's tests earlier this week of its first intercontinental ballistic missile. it has been a hot summers day in the nation's capital, but without the heavy humidity we normally expect in july. meteorologist brian van de graaff joins us and tomorrow was looking better? brian: as we go through the back half of the weekend, it will be great. watching storms to the north and south.

kimberly: developing in georgetown, a deadly shooting feet from a popular nightspot on water street, near the whitehurst freeway and key bridge. was-year-old from severn killed, the man with him critically hurt at 3 a.m. no arrests or word on the motive. a family in texas is still asking questions after a 22-year-old was killed in greece friday. anderson was with a group of friends at a bar when a fight broke out that continued once they left the bar. his friends and family are remembering him tonight. >> just trying to share positive memories of him. we even had smiles from the joy he brought to our lives. kimberly:

graduated from college. he was in greece working on a photo shoot to launch a clothing line. a couple people were arrested. the word on what started deadly fight. in dallas, people fired up agents and laced up their running shoes. when you're ago, a gunman opened fire on a rally, killing five dallas police officers -- this happened one year ago. there was a memorial 5k and several of events held to honor the memory of those officers. still ahead tonight, a child gets a miracle to boost her lifelong fight against cancer. and brian is back with the forecast.

can smile again. >> show me your muscles. oh, they're huge! kimberly: so strong. their darling three-year-old daughter is battling cancer, and for a second time she received a life-saving triple organ transplant. they could not believe the chances of their daughter receiving all three organs. >> it's crazy. just shows you that miracles happen every day. and be a donor. it would not have been a good road if we do not have the donor. kimberly: they are looking to get their daughter back home so they can all get a new start on life. an update to a story at the maryland zoo, formerly the baltimore zoo, a baby giraffe is in intensive care. the three week old giraffe has been struggling since being born last month.

has irregularities in his blood work that is a serious concern. birthday partya underway for alexandria. the city is celebrating its 268th birthday, and she looks pretty good for that age. that means concerts, a birthday cake, and fireworks finale. that is expected at 9:30. and it is going to be a gorgeous evening. brian: i hosted last year, they had bands and all the music, food trucks, drink trucks, tents, and the weather will cooperate nicely. a couple of storms, but nothing in the city, and tamara was even better with lower humidity. hang onto your hats because we have higher humidity. kimberly: of course. brian: we made it to 93 degrees briefly, keeping us on track thus far.

17 days of 90 degrees or warmer. we have a few more months of summer time. so we arewe had 68, behind last year. the temperatures today, 90's in the city, 88 annapolis and andrews, upper 80's from leesburg, luray at 86. this onets of rain, little batch in southern maryland, across northern neck, over st. george's island, moving to the east southeast. and watching this broken line from hagerstown, chambersburg, gettysburg. all models say this fills out as it drifts out. we are anticipating drier air, the dew point was in the 70's yesterday. now we are the mid-50's. with the dew point is in the mid-50's, that is

the pleasant category. get out and enjoy the pleasant humidity on a july night, not something we get very often. something fun to do, harry potter this week, the 20th anniversary. wow. they are showing the film with the national symphony orchestra pulling the music at wolf trap, should be great. we slip into the 60's tomorrow morning, 87 tomorrow. without the humidity it will be great. put on the sunscreen. nats taking on the braves tomorrow, 85 at first pitch. 1:45 game, should be gorgeous, just ring sunshades. on thear 90 degrees come hotter side, but the humidity remains in check briefly. once we get to tuesday, we are in the mid-90's, wednesday and thursday as well. each afternoon we have a chance of an isolated storm. chances lateest next friday, calling us all for the following weekend.

the ceremony took place outside of moscow. the whole thing documented, of course, on instagram. congrats to the great 8. check out these amazing catches. the ball hits the center fielder. lays out, diving catch. he was not done. the very next batter, a fly ball to left. left fielder cannot find it. no problem. races over from center, another diving catch. hillsboro wins, thanks to that guy, 6-5. in women's soccer, the washington spirit and orlando pride finish in a 2-2 tie. kimberly: the smile on his face when he made those catches was like the little boy coming up.

kimberly: a very special story time today for children and northwest d.c. washington national center fielder adam eaton read them a copy of "the kid from diamond araight," a true story about 10-year-old girl who made a professional men's baseball team -- "the kid from diamond street." you know all the boys and there were like, really? green bay animal control work to get some ducklings out of a storm drain. they went into a smaller drain, making it more difficult to get out. all the ducklings made it out safely, although animal control
