while searching for answers. i'm kimberly souter. it has been one week since he was shot and killed driving on the belly. today, they laid him to west -- to rest. our stephen kita has the latest in this death investigation. sayrter: they gathered to farewell, in the garb of a team a loving husband and father adored. this, while they still don't know why someone repeatedly shot the 55-year-old. >> we want to say thank you for all your love and support. just remember peppy. he was a good guy. reporter: investigators do not know whether this was targeted, road rage, or random. the shooting took place after he drove a friend home to washingt

back. in recent days, investigators have started getting a trickle of tips. they are following up on every possible lead, but so far, no breaks. meanwhile, there hope as fourth of july vacations end, someone who witnessed the shooting hears about what went down and contacts policed. his family struggles to comprehend why anyone would want to harm him. >> he was a fun, happy, jolly person. he was always trying to make life better for you. his 1999 white mercury grand marquis was found stopped in the traveling. in the rear window in bold prints, the words redskins fan for life. investigators hope those characteristics along with a $25,000 reward can prompt someone to come forward with the information to close the case. stephen tschida, abc seven news.

>> tragically right now in gaithersburg, a death investigation at a motel 6. a four-month-old baby found dead in a van outside that motel. we are still waiting to hear back about the circumstances surrounding the death. we will bring you those updates. now, investigators say this massive fire at a home in southeast d.c. was a case of arson. this was a long wheeler road near valley lane. when firefighters arrived, they found some of and flames already shooting from the home. they shut down the road in the area while they got it under control. one firefighter didn't suffer minor injuries. we are told many people, including children, are without a home tonight. no word on any suspects in connection to the fire. turning to the forecast, you couldn't have asked for better weather today. it is not possible for this trend to continue, but we have to check in with brian van de graaff for a look at

20 buildings have been destroyed. the flames have shut down a highly. the wildfire has burned through 7800 acres. nla, smoke could be seen for miles after an explosion and fire at a power and water plan last night. that incident left more than 140,000 people without power. incredibly, things are back to normal tonight. officials say the cause is accidental. a mechanical malfunction of some sort. a celebration near cincinnati taking a tragic turn, after gunshots ring out. police say two men opened fire on a gender reveal party. one person was killed and eight others were hurt, including the pregnant woman. even more tragic, the woman, whose friend -- family and friends gathered, lost her baby after being shot in the leg. >> i did talk to the officer who was on the scene. he said it was horrific. he said it was something that was unimaginable.
