took them a while but they wrapped it up. >> they did. >> as we say good morning on this wednesday we'll start with donald trump jr. speaking out overnight hours after posting the e-mails that led to his controversial meeting with a russian lawyer. >> in an interview last night he said he never told his father about that meeting. he also said in retrospect he would have done things differently. >> abc's janai norman is following the developments for us from washington. good morning, janai. >> reporter: good morning, diane and kendis. some democrats are saying those e-mails are clear signs of collusion and even some republicans are expressing concerns over trump junior's willingness. >> donald trump jr.'s e-mails. for some the fire where there's already smoke. >> this is moving into perjury, false statements, and potentially treason. >> donald trump jr. was openly

about getting damaging information from the russians. it is certainly evidence of collusion. >> reporter: the e-mails released by trump jr. show on june 3rd acquaintance rock goldstone told him the crown prosecutor of russia offered to provide the trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate hillary and her deals with russia and would be very useful to your father. this is obviously very high level and sensitive information, but it's part of russia and its government's support for mr. trump. minutes later he responded thanks, rob. i appreciate that. if it's what you say, i love it. especially later in the summer. is that evidence that the trump campaign knew that russia was trying to interfere? >> no, i don't think so, no. >> reporter: on fox news' "hannity" he maintained it was much ado about nothing. >> in retrospect i probably would have done things differently. >> reporter: two weeks after that meeting he dismissed suggestions the trump campaign had anything to do with

>> it's disgusting, it's so phony, i can't think of bigger lies but that exactly goes to show you what the dnc and what the clinton camp will do. they will lie and do anything to win. >> reporter: and from the white house a short statement from the president saying my son is a high quality person and i applaud his transparency but "the new york times" says donald trump jr. only released those e-mails after learning of their plans to release them. diane and kendis. >> janai norman following a lot of developments there in d.c. and, janai, some lawmakers are calling on donald trump jr. to testify before congress. he says he's happy to cooperate. >> the president's son may have violated a campaign law as abc news chief legal analyst dan abrams explains. >> well, it's not going to be the smoking gun for the larger investigation that robert mueller is doing but the question of is this criminal with regard to donald trump jr., there's a strong argument to be made that this is a technical violation of campaign finance

law. >> donald junior's lawyer's says he did not wrong and robert mueller will examine the meeting. the president is heading to paris where he'll celebrate bastille day with the french president emmanuel macron. the two leaders are at odds over climate change and the president's decision recently to withdraw from the paris climate accord. but they're hoping to find common ground on terrorism and defense. protesters plan to voice opposition with what's being called a no trump zone. >> and senate republicans work on their version of a health care reform bill a top senate republican says an obama tax increase will likely stay in place. john cornyn says they have two levied by president obama on couples making over $250,000 a year. analysts say those two alone yield $23 billion a year. meanwhile, senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is delaying the chamber's summer

the august recess in half so they can focus on health care reform among other legislative agenda items accusing democrats of obstructionnism and lack of cooperation. the search continues for wreckage from a military plane that crashed in rural mississippi. governor phil brian is warning people not to remove the debris which is scattered over several miles. now, this comes after reports of people actually taking items from that crash site. the marine corps kc-130 plane was taking an elite special operations unit across the country for training. that unit was based in north carolina. all 16 on board were killed. foul play not suspected. we're getting a look at a major moment in america's missile defense program. this military video shows the first successful test of the thad system against a rocket. it managed to intercept a missile fired over hawaii from one that was fired over alaska.

developed by north korea. the newest wildfire in the west has left its mark. the fast-moving grass fire destroyed at least one large home in the hills near san jose and damaged another. 11 other high-end hopes have been evacuated as a result. in southern california the jennings fire has destroyed at least 400 acres and forced hundreds of evacuations. at least for a time it closed an interstate in the san diego area. and there are currently 55 active large fires in 14 western states. and this was the view as a husband and wife escaped a wildfire in western canada. it started in heavy smoke and then turned frightening as their car is surrounded by flames. more than 200 fires have burned 150 square miles and forced 14,000 evacuations. similar concern overseas where wildfires on the slopes of mt. vesuvius caused fears of another massive eruption at the famed volcano. these dramatic images coming in early t

eruption was during world war ii. now for a look at your weather. the radar shows us some severe storms moving through the upper midwest. cities from chicago to erie, pennsylvania, could get a direct hit. the entire region could see damaging winds, hail, a few tornadoes. heavy rain could cause flash flooding. you could be looking at more scenes like this in the southeast. heavy rain caused this flooding in montgomery, alabama. not only were cars partly submerged, the water also made its way into the state capitol building and high winds snapped up a tree on the capitol's grounds. well, surf's up south of los angeles. >> a tropical storm is bringing huge waves to the wedge in newport beach in orange county. world famous surfing spot by the way. tropical storm

grabbed air bags from seven cars in three apartment complexes. a massive air bag recall is now expanding. takata has added 2.7 million vehicles to its initial order. the company says some air bag inflators may explode with too much force and send shrapnel onto drivers and passengers. at least 17 deaths have now been blamed on the defect. the initial recall affected 42 million ford nissan and mazda vehicles. a doctor who cared for olympic and collegiate gymnasts may serve up to 60 years in prison for child pornography. larry nassar accepted a plea deal yesterday densed in november. he worked for u.s. gymnastics and michigan state university and faces trials and lawsuits for the sexual abuse of more than 100 women and girls. those accusers include u.s. olympians. coca-cola is getting greener. it is expected to announce it'll dramatically increase the amount of recycled plastic used in its bottles.

philadelphia using a backhoe, digging and sifting soil by hand. appearing to measure and photograph what they're unearthing searching for four young men missing since last week. >> i think that it's very important to hang on to hope until there is no room left for it. >> reporter: the property owned by the family of 20-year-old cosmo dinardo who authorities say is a person of interest in the mysterious disappearance of those men. 19-year-old jimi patrick was last seen wednesday. >> he was on the scheyer side but get a smile out of him. >> reporter: thomas meo, 21, marriage surjs, 22 and 19-year-old dean finocchiaro all missing since friday. dinardo arrested on an unrelated gun charge. >> we're looking for information that connects these four and may connect them to the property we're searching, connect them to cosmo dinardo perhaps. >> reporter: authorities confirming they have brought in cadaver dogs to search this property. they say they received tons of tips but they

keep coming. eva pilgrim, abc news, bucks county, pennsylvania. a large gathering of skateboarders got pretty out of hand in san francisco last night. residents had complained that the informal competition was blocking the street. well, police in riot gear tried to break up the crowd. that's when more than 100 skateboarders clashed with those officers. one officer and at least two skateboarders were injured. two police cruisers were also vandalized. >> wow. also in san francisco, salvage crews have started raising a sunken barge out of san francisco bay. the 112-foot barge named "vengeance" sank during a storm three months ago landing on top of an underwater francis tube. crews working in waters with zero visibility have managed to cut the barge into three sections. the entire barge is expected to be raised by the end of this week. it's up to paris and los angeles to decide which city will host the 2024 and 2028

police pursuit in virginia. that pursuit ended when two suspects bailed out of their car on hazel ferguson dr in fairfax. police say they were suspected of opening fire in centreville, striking a vehicle and a house. no one was injured. police say one man is now in custody, and they are still looking for a second female suspect. developing now-- the governor of mississippi is warning citizens not to pick up debris of a doomed marine corps plane. 16 service members were killed when the military transport plane went down. the cause is still unknown and debris from the crash was reportedly scattered for miles. military officials say the victims were from camp lejeune in north carolina - and from orange county new york. back here-- we are seeing stunning pictures of a close call in fauquier county. take a look. a bridge collapsed- right under a u-p-s truck! these photos are from the scene in catlett. the good news- no one was hurt. an investigation is underway, but fire department officials say the bridge's listed weigh limit is 4 tons. thats about 4 times
